Phil also uses his horses for work around the farm, trail riding, packing and hunting in the mountains.
Phil’s goal is to produce calm, relaxed, trusting and safe driving horses. Phil believes that a horse needs to learn to stand well before it starts to walk and walk well before it trots. He works to build a trust and respect relationship with his horses starting with good ground manners, consistent discipline and quality work.
Phil, a very successful driver, is well known in the CDE and Pleasure Driving shows and has won many honors with horses he has trained. Last October, he was honored to be invited to drive his Fjord pair in the ADS Driving Derby demonstration at the World Equestrian Games held in Lexington, Kentucky.
Phillip Odden and his wife Else live on a farm in NW Wisconsin. They are engaged in building traditional Norwegian furniture, wood carving as well as raising and training horses. Phils experience with horses started as a youngster on a Wisconsin dairy farm. He has since become very involved with Norwegian Fjord horses and has served as the chairman of the NFHR Evaluation committee.
Smashing video, i looked at a Fjord at the weekend, young mare 5yr old, taking her out riding over the next couple of weeks to see if we're compatible, they look great and heard nothing but positive comments regarding the breed...
Thanks for your kind words Laurie and Oz. The horse with the dark legs is Marcy. Herger and Marcy are a wonderful pair. I have a couple other pairs that are very nice too and we might do a video with them as well. Glad people have enjoyed the video. Phil
This is a GREAT video and I enjoyed it so much. Which horse is the one with the dark legs?--very pretty horse and excellent team! Wish I had been there. More videos please.:0)
everyone, the owner of the video won't say so, but he is one of the premier fjord drivers/trainers/breeders in the country. i have met him at many fjord events, and i am always impressed with his horses. and they are all nice people, besides.
This is awesome, and showcases the horses so nicely. I love the one hitched on the left (right when you are looking at the video)The music is superb, where did you get it? I am looking for some nice bouncy Norwegian music for riding my fjord in a dressage piece. Good job, lovely sleigh and team
