I infer that you have access to the Gershwin memorial concert of '38. Would you consider posting Froman's "Summertime" and "It Ain't NecessarilySo" for our pleasure and comment?
I have that segment on 12" 78rpm disc. Its called "Gems from Porgy and Bess" a medley of tunes from the show on 2 four-minute sides. I will post it within a couple of days.
There is a story/myth (?) that George Gershwin promised Jane Froman that if she would introduce "Summertime" on the air (which she did), he would give no one else permission for a year (and he kept this promise). Does anyone know if this is true?
This is apparently true. According to her biographer, this incident was related by Jane herself. Page 44, "Jane Froman: Missouri's First Lady of Song" by Ilene Stone.
This is a wonderfully crisp clear recording, and Jane Froman sounds amazing. Her voice is so rich and lilting. Thank you.
