I think you did a great job. I really hope you're still working on your craft. From one musical theatre performer to another, keep going. The world can have their opinion but we are the one's who, in the end, get to dream and sing and love the world thru music and art.
you need to STOP with the excuses and putting yourself down... you've got a beautiful talent... and I am really moved by your performance.
You don't sound horrible at all, and the way you act it is gorgeous..... to be that touching via youtube from a room in your house!!!... that's insane... I wish you all the best in the career, I really do... but STOP PUTTING YOURSELF DOWN xxx
Loving You (Stephen Sondheim , from “Passion” ) loving you is not a choice it´s who I am loving you is not a choice and not much reason to rejoice but it gives me purpose and gives me voice to say to the world :this is why I live! you are what I live. . . loving you is why I do the things I do loving you is not in my control but loving you I have a goal for what´s left of my life I will live and I will die for you. . . it gives me purpose gives me voice .....
I guess you probably don't feel too invested in a 2-year old clip anymore, but I came accross it while systematically looking to see whether there were any versions better than Donna Murphy's (which I really like!). You're neck and neck.
Don't criticize yourself too harshly. There is a solid foundation here! A great director can help an actor immensely. The voice is almost perfect for the material because you acted through the song rather than SING it! Sondheim songs are NOT meant to be "sung" but "ACTED"!!!!!!
Omigod! You have absolutely nailed this character, I saw the London show twice ten years ago and it has always held a lot of meaning for me and all those feelings came back when I watched this. Fosca was well educated and brought up as a lady and you really got that across, especially in the way you sang. I don't think you transposed too high either, it sounded right to me as Fosca has a mezzo voice. I hope you play the role in London some day, I would so come to see it!
wear your heart out on your sleeves; over the top acting, you would do better, however desperate you, to keep your wits about you, you would want your "lover" to come to you because he realized the beautiful the person that you are not because he pitied you--pity isn't love but charity...
very impressed. Passion is my favorite musical and Donna Murphy is I agree Uber Fosca! But I was really impressed with your monologue and your voice. Great job, girl!
Wow. You are terrific. I have watched most of your video performances and each is a genuine joy to watch - whether you are performing a comical song or a more passionate, powerful song, you nail it brilliantly. I hope you get spotted and snapped up because you truly deserve to go far.
You brought me to tears. I don't know why you'd say the singing sucks. Sure, it isn't your strongest vocal but I could see AND hear that every cell in your body was 100% Fosca-sized. You are fantastic, did you ever make an "I Read" video?
Girl u betta sing! That was great. I think u did a wonderful job, I'm glad i watched this. Unlike most of the youtube clowns u have talent and you are humble, keep that. But also take pride in whatever you do.
My dad told me to watch this. He loved it. So I just have to tell you: GREAT JOB. You've impressed one 60-year-old voice teacher and one 23-year-old theatre major, BOTH of whom are not easy to please.
You know, the singing here is far better than the acting.
I don't understand it--you're squeezing out tears then suddenly you're shouting "YOU WOULD FEEL OTHERWISE!" in anger. Why would Fosca be angry with Giorgio?
At any rate, the dialogue is slow and the constant sobbing makes it drag out for what seems an eternity. This video would be much better if you cut the dialogue and left the singing you've already done.
IMO: She's not angry with Giorgio exactly, more angry at the world she lives in. A frustration with the fact that she knows if she were a beauty, she wouldn't have such difficulty finding a great love. I think some frustration there makes plenty of sense, but that's just my opinion.
I was totally mesmerized by your acting, Alex! I thought it was excellent, and straight from the heart. Pauses are just as important, and in this case, they are what makes the performance so riveting.
As for the singing, you put yourself down far too much - it was beautiful :)
@chijchiy Sorry, but your opinions are your opinions... and I disagree with all of them. Her acting is truly heartfelt and Fosca can be interpreted in many ways. She does not have a quasi-Brit accent. God, you are so freakin' picky that you have officially annoyed me. I want to see you put yourself on YouTube and do better!!!! There... the gauntlet has been laid. I challenge you!
Can you please tell me where you got the accompaniment soundtrack? I have the lyrical CD, but I just adore the music so much, I'm trying to hard to find the accompaniment CD.
I hesitated from watching this. But it is one of the most beautiful takes I've ever seen. Rest assured that all of the MT's at Michigan will be getting this in their e-mail tonight. Phenomenal.
This is my first ever comment on youtube. I am giving it to you. 'Loving You' is my favourite song. I love it so much that I refuse to listen to bad versions. However, you made the song more beautiful to me. Thank you for being so amazing and talented.
B**ch, you're f**king amazing!!! You have the talent to move the hardest heart. I am going to watch out for you! Wishing you the best to see you become a STAR!
To listen to you talk about yourself, you don't know how amazing you are! I've played in a variety of shows, with an even greater mix of talent levels. Your talent for not only acting but singing clearly brings across a character in only a few short moments. You should have so much confidence - you truly are destined for great things!
I've always thought that she was emotionally uncontrolled. I never found her ugly, not even in the book. I've always thought she had concentred all her feelings upon a person that can't receive such a bargain.
You have discovered the ehole aspects of the role, such a wonderful actress and an exquisite singer. Again, I would prefere not to see you on the internet but on the stage.
You honnor Sondheim, each word shines from your soul. Thank you, and I want more...
Ok, u rock. Passion is one of my absolute favorites. I've never really understood why people say it is off-putting. I'm guessing you've seen the clips of the Dutch version with Vera Mann. What a beautiful voice...full of emotion. I love it. I was privileged to be in the cast of the first Passion cast outside of New York and had the chance, latter, to meet Donna Murphy. You really made me feel for Fosca.
You have something that really moves me. It's so honest. I just don't have that quality. You just seem to pour it out and that thrills me. Wonderful again.
HOLY CRAP. If you think you suck, I can't imagine what you would say about my voice. Even through the emotion you sang beautifully. I loved your monologue at the beginning! It led into the song well.
