  • This is great !

  • 3:44 bloody murder yell lol

  • haha 3:46

  • I love how accurate this is. Reminds me of my days as a waiter having to use BS words like "island of mousse". It was a scoop, nothing more.

  • @mattymjb Was the chef really that polite and open to your ideas though?

  • @ozoneocean aaaaahhhhh, no. The chef threw saltine cracker packets at us if we even asked him if something was ready yet....

  • I could be wrong, and there's absolutely no way to be sure, but I think that this may in fact be a clip from a television show called Kids in the Hall from years ago. It was a comical show involving 'skits' in which the characters would play out a predetermined scenario that had a comedic edge to it.

  • @LJPpro yeah, it is xD

  • It's funny because this is the complete opposite of how people are in the food service industry.

  • Awesome! I remember this one from a long time ago. Thanks for the upload. :-)

  • If anyone has ever worked in fine dining, they have lived this moment.

  • I went through this for years as a cook! This skit rocks!

  • 3:39

  • Fucking genius!

  • if I'm elected president I promise lower taxes, less health care...but more dipping areas for everyone!

  • Poor Mark...he's new here.

  • Kevin's make-up is hilarious

  • i swear i can hear the same lady in alot of kith sketches laughing her ass off

  • Three people don't like the idea of dipping areas.

  • lol@kevin mcdonald

  • One of my favorite parts of KITH is the audience laughing. Because it's real laughter.

  • i love the guys reaction to the droped plates lol ahhhhhhhh 3:40

  • This is no laughing matter. I once got thumb prints in my chocolate dusting and I haven't been able to eat mousse or sorbet since. I've only recently been able to eat blueberries again. My protege says I should get a lawyer and sue the restaurant. They can't be allowed to treat people like that.

  • I do not eat in restaurants where the staff is incapable of properly handling chocolate dusting with dipping areas. That is totally unacceptable and can completely ruin what would otherwise be a delightful evening with a gigolo.

  • @brandydeshayzer YOU are so right i mean i dont me to sound like a snob or anything but the whole point is chocolate dusting.

  • 2:37 "I'm sorry was that a stupid question...... KINDA!" lol.

  • What would Chef Gordon Ramsey do?

  • @FredAstaire76 throw the plate against the wall lol

  • lmfao at buddies reaction to food on his face

  • Comment removed

  • Her protégé seems like a real dead fish.

  • @tubeviewerX20 : In the Peter Prince sketch, the old lady had a young pool boy she said was no good for anything but fucking. She's a horny old bat. One of Kevin's best characters I think.

  • Bit of a problem I hope they got it solved.

  • I could write a 4 page essay about the brilliance of this sketch.

  • foley looks like a lesbian in this

  • welcome to san francisco--where food is meant for masturbation, not sustenance

  • it's stuff like this that makes you realize how funny regular everyday life is ha ha

  • we're working on it. Best skit ever written

  • Instead of making the dipping areas wider or adding more of them, simply make the dipping areas longer, towards the center of the plate, towards the mousse. This way, the dipping areas are bigger, but the thumb space between them is just the same as before! I may be new here, but I think this solves all dipping area problems! : )

  • Kevin's the same woman he was in the Peter Prince sketch. She likes them young and paid for.

  • !!!!!!!! Ha ha ha. The ending is the best part

  • 2:23 That face makes me explode.

  • I've never heard of a kitchen this civilized.

  • LMAO @ "Its a tuffy"

  • it's a toughy.

    larious!

  • This is actually one of my very favorite skits they've ever done. It's by far their weirdest and wildest skit, and you can only really think so if you really know the Kids in the Hall and what they do. It's so strange and crazy simply because it's so rational, level headed, and calm. It's the jeux de position polar opposite of what the KITH really are. I think the only one's who would be dying laughing on this one are people who are huge KITH fans.

  • @TheRoomy They're so earnest about those dipping areas--genius!

  • bruce's hair

  • You have no idea how many of these conversations I have everyday!

  • This is why food takes so long.

  • its scary how much he actually looks like one of those old Hollywood witches.

  • Those...VESTS!

  • Its so genius in its simplicity I love it. Who ever thought dipping areas could be so hilarious. The boyfriend screaming like a girl kills me every time.

2:25 might be my favorite moment in the whole series, Kevin with the old lady make up, oh my god.

  • Each time I see this I'm amazed by the way Kevin walks away with it. "Don't you think they should be...biggahhh?"

I love the cheapo Italian food posters on the wall behind Bruce, Mark, and Dave.

  • It's a toughy! I wish they would put this on again!I used to LOVE to see this show.

  • That protege had better watch his back. Looks like the WASP-y battleax has her eye on someone else at the end, there.

    She's got good taste. ;D

  • yes, season 5, episode 4, after their move to CBS late-night, according to KITHfan.org

  • hahaha my protege and i

  • actually, waiters aren't supposed to touch the topside of plates at all. only the sides and bottom are permitted, unless they're wearing gloves. that goes for any commercial restaurant, i'm pretty sure

  • I love when the guy screams when the plate drops, gets me everytime!:)

  • It's a toughy

  • "Because—and I find that this happens more often on Thursday nights more than any night of the week—people seem to be running out of dipping areas... even before they run out of mousse."

Good Lord this sketch is ingenious. Their dialogue is... so spot-on.

  • Bruce kinda has a young Sam Adams look here.

  • Kevin is wonderful in this... 2:23

  • @PishPosh99 his look at that moment is hilarious

  • in a real kitchen you would be shot for talking that long

  • I forgot about this one

  • @spcmn77 Hmm...perhaps you should focus your energies "away" from the customer service industry?

  • first time i saw this, i died when the plates were just dropped carelessly. i had to keep rewinding it over and over.

it's just as funny as someone getting something slapped out of their hand... that will never get old.

  • Best ending ever lol

  • The point that everyone is missing is this is the unsolvable problem. It's like the unstoppable force hitting the immovable object. There is no solution, it is pursuit of the answer that frees the mind to achieve a higher state.

    MORE DIPPING SPACES!!!!!!

  • Isn't Kevins character the same one he plays in the Peter Prince sketch?

  • @darkb4lightt Yes it is! Wish this character had been in more sketches.

  • "We're working on it!"

  • 0:20 - Smack that vacuous pompous ass upside the head, LOL! :P

  • My favorite KITH sketch.

  • Lol this show is genius.

  • "sprinkled with a herd of loose blueberries" hahaha

  • LOL great sketch! can't wait to see their new show tomorrow!!!! maybe they'll let us know what happens with the dipping areas!!!

  • It's a toughie....

  • Great sketch, but I'm sad that Kevin is unusually unattractive in this.

  • Complete crazy thing is that this happens in kitchens all the time always looking to improve, but lol just go about the problem so oddly,,,,

  • who is the protege? is it Balki from perfect strangers?

  • I don't know who it is, but I am 100% sure it's not cousin Balki...I'd recognize that guy in an instant.

Perfect Strangers was a great show. >)

  • @theMAG101 The first season was the best! :)

  • Gotta love Bruce's pompous haircut :P

  • That plate is ridiculous.

  • I love Kevins laugh at the end XD

  • mmmm They're doing a usability study :)

  • if you can't carry 5 plates at a time without spilling anything or getting your thumbs in the plate--you ain't no kind of waiter/ress/server

Love the cougar with her "protogé"

  • THATS INSANITY

  • 2:25 OH GOD HIS FACE XD

and the protege's freak out was hilarious lol

  • I know it's just a comedy sketch, and it's not meant to be taken seriously...but as a practical solution, wouldn't the way to carry two plates with larger dipping areas be to use a tray?

  • Don't fucking analyze it. Just let it be.

  • Nope. Trays are considered tacky in "posh" restaurants. I vote for keeping four dipping areas and making them slightly bigger.

  • They shouldn't put the dipping areas on the outside edge of the plate. If you're dipping, it should be kept within the sunken area of the plate, otherwise it could spill over the edge.

  • I think they should have one large dipping area.

The mouse itself is only occupying one side of the plate. They should have a large dipping area on the other side. That would create plenty of room along the outiside to grip the plate :D

  • So much gravitas. I love it.

  • You must be new here.

  • did i hear someone say dipping areas?

  • I'm beginning to think this wasn't a documentary at all!

  • lol @ Scott's face at 2:13

  • God I love these guys...

  • Hahaha, at 2:23 Kevin's character's face gets me every time.

  • LOL!

  • It would be a crime to compromise on the chocolate dusting

  • I don't know why everyone thinks this is so funny. Maximizing the effectiveness of dipping areas is a very serious issue.

  • @DoodleGoosen lol

  • @DoodleGoosen very logistic indeed!

  • Lol at Bruce's hair!

  • Bruce always has the best hair...like in "My Pen"

  • 5 dipping areas, duh!

  • That would work...yes!

  • Anyone else think the cook looks like Joey Fatone?

  • I kind of miss the gay waiter stereotype from the 90s.

  • This bit is hysterical especially having been a pastry chef for many years. Bruce's portrayal of the server is awesome.

  • I'm a pastry chef too! You have to admit the plating is horrible. That's why I love this skit so!

  • Yeah, if i ever turned out a dish like that, our head chef woulda had my ass on that plate. The plate is so busy and that definitely adds to this skit. Honestly, who would put sauce so close to the edge....so god damn funny!!

  • i've been waiting so long for someone to put this up. it's my favourite sketch of theirs, i think it's pure genius. thanks for adding it!

  • Comment removed

  • 3:40 is the funniest thing I've ever seen on Kids in the Hall.

  • great vests

  • I've always adored this sketch.

  • This is the first sketch I ever saw by KITH and it's the one that got me hooked! Since then, I have been trying so hard to see it again, but I never saw it after that. Lo and behold, I do the search on youtube and find it! HAIL YOUTUBE!

    This sketch is LEGENDARY!

  • friggen funny funny shite man, kevin looks pretty darn good in this one too lol

  • Another one I haven't seen for so long. So many new ones being uploaded. Thanks.

  • Special plates with handles on the side...maybe?

  • some people miss what they are really making fun of here. its all the stupid extravagate deserts high profile places serve.

  • Their voices in the kitchen are soooo soothing.

  • How about a bigger plate? I love the 'protege' when he freaks out at 3:46.

    KITH forever

  • lol and at 4:44, the protege's utter disgust for kevin :D

  • WHAT SEASON IS THIS!!! i have all of them but i cant find it ive seen it before on the dvds but i cant remember please help!

  • season 5 i think.

  • @dutchct yes it was thanks!!

  • @MATTMAN92ish

Season 5 ep 2 actual title is 'Special Sauce'.

or I may be wrong. Who knows?

  • Bruce looks so dang funny in this sketch. XD

  • Her "protege" LOL!

  • Oh my god, I miss this one!

My mom and I quote this sketch whenever we come across a dipping area.

  • @3:46 almost peed my pants!!!!!!!

  • Even though this show is atleast 15 years old,

its still intelligently funny.Canadians are the funniest nation on earth!

  • that's the laugh of a constipated WASP Bitch with too much time and money on her hands!

  • put a litle cup on the side for dipping

  • But then you'd have to make more than one trip and what would you bring out first? The dipping bowls or the mousse? People would either be eating the dip or eating the mousse with no dip! I just dont see how we can realize this right now.

  • How about we meet tomorrow early before opening and try to solve this.

  • I love kevin laughing at the end, its so strangely great

  • that is a toughie.

    this is their greatest sketch.

  • LOVE this one.

  • Man, everybody's hair looks spectacular.

This sketch just gets more relevant as time goes on. It works brilliantly as a parody of Top Chef.

  • Bruce has the best hair

  • This one is so clever! Thanks for putting it up.

  • God I love this one, thanx.

  • This sketch, for some reason, is insanely hilarious. I love it so much.

  • my god they are HOT in this one!

  • you know kevin's lady in this sketch somehow always reminded me of a mix between Greta Garbo and the 1970's cook Fanny Cradock. what does anyone else think?

  • More like Bette Davis, 100000 smokes later.

  • I suppose so :D
