@vladikod not to defend this band in particular, for it is hardly the best in it's genre, but this is clearly a case of less is more. the whole punk and subsequently post-punk and post-punk revival (which is what this band is) is basically founded upon that idea. just because a guitarline is slow and repetitive doesn't mean it can't be great. It is precisely because of it's simple yet powerfull guitarline that i think this song is easily the best in the repetoire of an otherwise mediocre band.

i agree. i think Radiohead has mastered many things that go into performing, and Interpol is very good at all those same things, but they haven't mastered all of them the way Radiohead has. The blokes in Radiohead are some of teh most technically proficient musicians around, they have mastered atmosphere, songwriting, lyrical stylization, and more.

Paul does sound that good when he has rested his vocals for awhile and when the sound guy has done a good job, like obstacle 1 on jimmy kimmel or slow hand and evil on leno, or their early hovefestivalen gig, and the bourges bootleg dvd, he's voice does sometimes used to change when they toured for along time and played everyday, but they always sound good to me, except for maybe some outdoor gigs
