  • Analyse THIS!

  • One of my favorite movies, one of my favorite scenes.

  • it bugs me that the bullet goes out of the frame.

  • this is this

  • @ryancook17 True that brother.

  • for 57 minutes

  • lol

  • "this is this"... it means: listen to what the fuck im saying.

  • thank you for clearing that

  • PEOPLE USE TO TELL ME I LOOK LIKE HIM WHEN I USE TO HAVE MY BEARD THAT SHORT, NOW IT PRACTICALLY COVERS MY MOUTH AND REACHES DOWN TO MY CHEST. FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS DON'T LIKE IT BECAUSE IT MAKES LOOK OLDER THAN I AM BUT OH WELL THE HELL WITH PEOPLE JAJAJAJAJA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's a great line period. it's the law of mathematics, this is this. end of discussion, pure poetry

  • This scene is too good for audio error, reupload please!

  • is OK but I like De Niro's style most

  • lol

  • De Niro is one of the best out there with Streep and Hoffman and Newton, Einstein, M. Jordan, Michael Jackson, da Vinci, et. al..

  • it means THIS isn't THAT or THAT isn't THIS...just THIS is THIS.

  • @pibada2 But is that that?

  • @jtull89

no, that cannot be that, unless this is this.

  • De Niro = Best Actor ever

  • Great, you post something that's meaning is conveyed in only 3 words, and you somehow manage to have your fat finger on the mute button for one of them. You are what they call, BRILLIANT.

  • Here is the entire scene with time before and after the "This is This" statement. It occurs at 3:25.

    Type in this:

The Deer Hunter "this is this"

and this is the person who posted it:

  • i guess DeNiro has always sqinted a lot. him and Clint Eastwood should have a squinting contest.

  • I don't question that it's a great line, but I must admit I don't fully understand it myself, even after seeing the whole movie. I think I kind of get it. Like..."This is reality. It's not anything else. Accept it." Something like that? I'm so confused, haha.

  • I do question that it's a great line.

  • @fallenshadows555 I think he's saying "You always come up here without the equipment you need. I needed this bullet, so I brought this bullet."

  • @jlw1965

They are just about to ship off to Vietnam, and the reality of it has hit home with Mike, but not the others. Be prepared or be dead, but more then that, he is saying life is happening right now, and its too fleeting to not pay attention.

  • @clancy6969 I agree. But I think he's primarily responding to Stan here. Stan is a fake. He carries around a gun, which he doesn't respect and waves wrecklessly in people's faces. He brags about all the women he's slept with. He's loud and coarse. Stan makes a big show of what a man's man he is, but he isn't. It's all show. He's completely unprepared for the trip, and Michael is putting him in his place by refusing to loan him anything.

  • @fallenshadows555 Basically Michael is telling Stan that he is a man and as a man should take care of himself.

  • Class quote and film! Shame John Cazale died before the film was finished...

  • This was before Robert DeNiro "Jumped the Shark" and started doing movies like Rocky and Bullwinkle

  • And Rightous Kill

  • Michael: Every time he comes up, he's got no knife, he's got no jacket, he's got no pants, he's got no boots. All he's got is that stupid gun he carries around like John Wayne. Stanley, see this? This is THIS. This ain't somethin' else. This is this. From now on, you're on your own.

  • I love this line. It reminds me that there is a masculine reality that preceeds the slippery world of interpretations and "perceptions." Even if what I just said is wrong, "This is this."

  • Dude..."It's all there. Black and White. Clear as crystal. "

  • @asterism549

    Wrong, sir. Wrong.

  • its actually a great line if you watch the whole scene.

  • Well said if you think the deeper meaning!

  • plz explain this for me

  • True that, true that.

  • The words are so simple, and yet full of wisdom.
