Luuuve this song.. I use to play this every time I was on the plane in London heading back to Dublin. As soon as I heard that Mandolin I knew I was in for a crackin few days. Rory you are missed. Im sorry I never got a chance to see you live..Your a Legend. x
"Ahhhh Jaysis, lads! Me feckin' mando is a bastard ta tune!" Rory probably wouldn't have said that, although Phil may have if he had played mandolin.
I love seeing all the different arrangements of this song. It's so loose in character that it could toyed with quite easily but obviously all the versions sounded great coming out of Rory, despite any tuning difficulties that may have been encountered. :P
I am going to the bluegrass festivle this year, because of "Home." And, Blue Moon, Amazing Graze and Walking Blues. Not to mention Barley&Grape, Which should "crossover" bluegrass and Irish drinking song. Or Bratacha Dubha (6/8 time according to my brother). To say Rory was a lover of music, and his roots...admiration does not cover it. Here is to Rory and the all the posters of all Rory,"Good God brother, you look like you could use one too." Some were too special to live forever.
@downunderkev Irish Tour is so Rory, I loaned it to my nephew, along with an original Blueprint. I am going to ask for them back. I gave hin the choice of vinyl Against the Grain or the remaster cd....he took the remaster. I got Irish Tour and Blueprint on remaster, that vinyl is coming home. I am going to find Against and frame the fuker. Iconis, afficiando, rare taste, critical ear, the real music guys get it. Somewhere I got and original Bluprint in unopened celo. Curout for $2.
I've seen every possible video of"going to my hometown" and they are all different! He sounds different, the mandolin is not the same.what was his trick?
Hey Ive gotta dissapoint some of my brothers from Cork. Rory was a Donegal man. Ive lived in Denmark since 73 but im still a Donegal man, so was Rory. Ok Taste was a Cork based group, but Rory was one of us. Anyway Im sorry he left this world too soon and i hope you Corkmen are not too offended. Ballyshannon was his hometown, and thats where his festival is held every year. Love his memory and remember we are all countrymen. VIVA PALESTINA.
I disagree, the Gallagher family left Ballyshannon when Rory was a year old, moved to Derry for a while then moved to Cork where he grew up and went to school so Cork was his hometown
When I first heard this on Live In Europe LP I could hardly believe that something so acoustic could rock so much. It reminds me a little of Mississippi Kid on the great Lynyrd Skynyrd debut album. Should have a national Rory Day in Ireland. Rory and Phil Day.
Takes me back 2 my teenage days of the early 70s when i used 2 go and see Rory play in the Ulster hall around this time of the year...Dec, Jan time. Loved his concerts.
I WILL ALLWAYS BE YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN RIP RORY

My father gave me his mix tapes from the 70's and 80's. I really start to like blues and rock n roll. I'm actually a punk and grunge lover =)
