  • Trackmaster could totally make something almost just like this. Just make everything a little bigger, change the track to plastic, change the characters from wooden to Trackmaster (or plastic) and BAM! You've got a Trackmaster Dieselworks.

  • PERCYS FACE!!!

  • what kind of camera do you use?

  • Damn you D10 you scraped Donald!

  • percy's new face makes me barf

  • in New Zealand the take-n-play dieselworks cost me $90:00 WTF!!!!!!!!

  • hey leo im not being rude but koko is electric and wilson and brewster are diesel

  • @urmompr0 opps, fail again

  • leo i think you got riped off the take n play version

  • hey leokimvideo i brought the take-n-play dieselworks when i saw this because i thought it was a great set. and im sure this will make you smile as i have found storage for diesel and those 2 legs. i will pull a video soon showing were to put these and i will be sure to mail you when it is up. love your videos and keep up the good work

  • @Dieselworks123 remember to show me the storage area in the instructions sheet..!

those green legs just appear from nowhere, it's a poor design not having those legs as a connected fold away option, in time they will be lost

  • @leokimvideo well it's not in the instructions sheet i did my own tests and found places for them on my own. im probably at the moment the only one that owns a dieselworks set that knows about these storage places. I hav also followed your detailing devil video and detailed my dieselworks playset. The video will be put up soon, and i am hoping that we can be friends on youtube.

  • in tnseese lego and thomas and other toys are cheep! Ps I live their!

  • when are you moveing to the usa? ps I live their!

  • Can you buy Take n Play Knapford Station and review it

  • @4Corry maybe if I see it at a vastly reduced price, I have purchased a number of trackmaster sets and giant cranky mainly because they were heavily discounted

and I said i would never buy trackmaster, oh well here we go again

  • Interestingly The take along looks like the repaired Dieselworks from the end of the film and the wooden railway happy hook is like the repaired happy hook from the finished works.

  • Light-weights seem to be common in the TnP range.

(Idea: add extra weight by unscrewing the models, and add extra weight bars from say, maybe a trackmaster model.) :-)

  • @J50Tank8905 the earlier models were fairly heavy, even the earlier Thomas which was all metal before they changed the boiler area to plastic

the latest models are impressive in details and also how light they have become, the lack of weight really stops them from performing downhill stunts, but may be safer if you have kids who throw toys

a well thrown Thomas model can wreck a large flat screen TV if your unlucky

  • @leokimvideo Got that right. I have a few Take Alongs, but they've been no problem to me. (probably cause I rarely use them)

Flat screen: bad day. I have a slight feeling that might have happened to you?

  • I got the take n play dieselworks today. I could make a review. My first video might come!

  • @koquicoqui out of curiosity how much did you pay, i know it's rude to ask this but I would really like to know

  • @leokimvideo i paid $38 dollars

  • @koquicoqui thanks, that's a excellent price, sadly where i live toys are totally overpriced and often double the cost of what is seen in the USA, LEGO is a perfect example of this.

  • @leokimvideo how come percy looks chubby

  • Plastic Railway, with wooden pieces!

    Oh wait...

  • @Armystuntman pretty soon we will see toys with claims of 'real plastic' as a sales pitch

  • The circles on the bottom of the track when folded up hold the legs, as for storage Diesel can sit on the folded green turntable base...

  • @SI3DFilms as for Diesel sitting in top of the inverted turntable that's a fail as he just flies off when in transport, my other take n plays have little secure homes for engines, as for the floating legs, sure there is a spot for them BUT they should be incorporated into the design so the whole Dieselworks is a one piece, as with all my other take n play sets. In time those floating legs will go missing thats a no brainer.

Hank also gets hung up on the raised curved track, worth $58 ?

  • @SI3DFilms i'm not a fan of toys which have corners cut on them, the Dieselworks needed a little bit more thought put into it before it was signed off.

And I am still trying to work out why I have to pay almost double that of the US price considering the Australian dollar is stronger than the US. If I picked this set up for $35 I would have no complaints on the weak design features found in it.

  • @SI3DFilms the instructions to the Dieselworks DO NOT illustrate or describe a storage area for Diesel, or show any storage area for the floating non attached green legs!

The legs are shown as things which appear from nowhere!

As always the devil is in the detain and the devil is missing in the otherwise excellent instructions, who knows all these important bits may have been lost in translation as so often happens.

If your instructions are different please let me know.

  • Ugh, I never liked the Take 'n' Play sets. They rely to heavily on gimmicks and the track is over-sized and difficult to use when making layouts (I owned one Take Along set when I was about 8). To me die-cast trains were always meant to be played with on the floor or on a desk or shelf for display.

  • Between the stuff I had as a kid, and what my older cousins had, I think the wooden trains are going down hill. They've always had some plastic, like wheels and such, but now every thing is plastic! Some my say that it is cheaper that way, but their prices don't say that, they are more expensive now then when they were wooden! They really need to make some cooler loco's too, like maybe a Brio big-boy, they could do it. And Thomas is not supposed to be CGI! I saw 5 minutes and turned it off.

  • @scottthewaterwarrior great comment, I recently looked over 7 wooden railway sets, and sure the amount of plastic in some was quite suprising

i'm just wondering when does a wooden railway become a plastic one!

to me you buy wood because of the classic charm of wood thinking it will last a long time and be a worthwhile purchase, but in the end the dollar decides what goes on

seeing batteries in wooden toys is I feel another no, no, but hey i'm not a kid..!

  • @leokimvideo Expect to see a lot more batteries in toys. I recently herd that a law was passed a few years ago that banned the production of toys that plug into the wall. I haven't been able to find much info about it, but both LEGO and Rokenbok switched over to battery power for all their electronic stuff at about the same time, and I haven't seen any "plug in" toys on the market since.

  • @leokimvideo I agree Flynn is a good model but the wooden diesel 10 and the cargo car disappoint me but I also think some take n plays are impressive

  • @fraynster my little saying is when the Thomas toys get it right they are amazing, BUT when they get it wrong it can really be a eye opener!

  • Nower day' s the Thomas merchandise is going down hill but the take n play diesel looks really impressive

  • @fraynster some of the take n play models are excellent, Flynn is a fine example, in fact all the DOTD characters look great

  • face face FACE the wooden percy face is the only change and i don't like it

  • @dshaynie thanks, the face changes on the characters seems to have really divided the Thomas community

  • The one thing about cargo cars-They are everywhere. Almost every set that I have bought has a cargo car. The only set I should be getting around Christmas is Thomas and Belle to the Rescue with a water tanker car. I have roughly 6-9 cargo cars and they do come in useful for a container train, but they need to incorporate some different trucks to the set to make it well worth the money that people spend.

  • @ShuntingTank043 those cargo cars are rubbish, far too light and don't at all look interesting, it would be great if all the Thomas fans had a look back at some of the classic stuff before the plastic was the big thing

  • @leokimvideo yeah, I have seven myself, plus the one 1 that is coming from the Dieselworks wooden Thomas set. I find that they are annoying as a bloody fly. I do like them for their use as container flat cars.

  • Hey leo, Not to be a pain, but WHEN IS Thomas Dark Side prt 2????

  • @randomguy652 i have a feeling it will be after Christmas and into the new year, i have to do the destruction of the wood stuff as well

  • I hate to say it, but I really dislike Take-n-Play. The engines and vehicles are lovely, but all their new playsets are horrible. None of them have that charm that Take-Along had. They don't even pack away nicely, track is still hanging over the sides of the Dieselworks when packed up. I remember Take-Along did a Quarry Mountain set once and everything fit perfectly inside it.

Sorry to rant on about this. Just thought I'd posts my thoughts.

  • Percy has a CGI face too.

  • Wow Percy looks massive agents Diesel 10

  • notice the 2D deisel 10 has the old evil face!!?!

  • the percy face has changed a bit just to say

  • Koko is electric :P

  • @TrainzXtreme lol, seems i have lost my chuggers stripes, and it's revealing who the real chugger fans are

who is hoot and toot..?? are they some sort of twins

i see them in the shops but not on the show

  • @leokimvideo

I think they're in series 2.... but to be honest I'm not a Chuggintion fan :P

  • @TrainzXtreme i picked up hoot today and an amazing chuggers playset, it was a special combo set for an amazingly low $55, and has a hot wheels style action

the low cost sucked me in I now wonder if what's inside is any good, the box artwork certainly looks like fun

you know i am yet to find a chuggers fan admit to being one..! it's a strange thing to see but who's watching my chuggers vids, a army of secret chugger fans

  • The Percy model has lesser color lines on this dome and his face is more fatter than the original.

  • 1:37 WTF! Really, a dark turn in the toy series?

  • @ninjakio930 remember the scary darker tales Thomas used to do..??

  • @leokimvideo why dont you do a video when you put your smoke machine in it to make it realistic can you do it plz

  • @leokimvideo yeah in about series 5

  • @leokimvideo Yeah! you got a point.

  • DUCK HAS COME BACK FOR REVENGE!!!!!!!!

  • @HotShotOmega i have a idea the Thomas crowd culled many of the Green characters, Duck, Daisy, Boco to name 3. Look how every new character has it's own very defined colour scheme

I think Duck was basically the wrong colour and nothing else..! It's not easy being green!

  • @leokimvideo Thats one interesting theory.

  • @martin0mac2000 about the missing breen characters I had a ling e-mail chat with a youtube on this subject, and the very common link between the missing classic characters is the fact most are GREEN.

I loved Duck mainly because he looked so different to the others and had a different personality, he was surely a fav with many of the early fans of the series.

When you see the effort Thomas creators go to making sure there are no cross over colour schemes it made me think of a connection.

  • @leokimvideo Intersting point on the colour of the engines, on a real railway they will be off one or three but not much more colours. I can understand using different colours in order to make them different. Another thing to add to the under realisictness of thomas. Mind you it doesn't help when you have three characters of the same type, Billy; Stanley and Charlie!!?!

  • @martin0mac2000 The other idea is a film making one, often if there are green screen or digital effects a film will have a no blue or green aspect to a film, so they can use chroma key without issues, BUT I feel this is not the reason as the model series was basically shot in camera

  • @martin0mac2000 i dare say the aspect linking the now missing characters could make a excellent video for discussion within the Thomas community

If it is a colour reason, I wonder if Henry and Percy were on the chopping boards as well..!

I'm pretty sure most would love to see a return of Duck at some point.

  • @leokimvideo Hmmm Lots of thoughts to ponder. Well I dont think they could Axe Percy or Henry as they are fairly key characters to the show, whilst Dasiy, BoCo, Oliver, Duck were all just passing fancys, and were all green.

I would also love to see duck come back (Im not liking the whole CGI Thing as well, leaves absolutely NOTHING to the imagination, and everything is presented on a silver plattter, with full motion and everything)

A Wonderful well thought out reply Leo :)

  • @leokimvideo It seems that they are eventually going to try every colour of the rainbow, due the no of characters they chew through. (And I feel the the stories are getting a little shallow)

Good thinking on the CG aspect, not to sure really what to say to that.

  • i have the pre-roll ad's turned OFF, but youtube keeps re-setting them on, i want the audience to see the video without an annoying interruption

the two thumbs down are chuggers fans

  • I own several old Percy models. This Percy has the CGI face, the boiler is wider, and the boiler stripes don't go all the way around the boiler.

The playset is well worth the money, but for me, it lacks some sidings within the loops and maybe even a couple small sheds alongside the turntable for Dart and Den the Dieselworks shunters.

  • @ShuntingTank043 wow nice percy details

  • @leokimvideo I have one Percy without the boilerbands and several with the season 1-4 look.

It took me sometime to remember that.

  • @ShuntingTank043 i think the set can do without the silly audio and useless light feature

  • @leokimvideo I agree. They could have added a flatcar with Kevin on it, the cream van, and maybe one of the new diesels, as well as a new style fuel tanker (Which you get with Mavis and is well worth your money if you don't have her) and a couple sidings under the crane for marshalling all the wagons and maybe keep the scrap feature as an added bonus, and maybe throw in either Duck or one of the forgotten characters, and a siding outside for the dieselworks diesel fuel depot.

  • LOL, love the starting sequence. Maybe Diesel 10 was reformed when he fell off the viaduct in The Magic Railroad. A kind of pyhsicotherapy for locomotives and his change in nature, changed his face.

    But Botox works too.

  • @22Tesla the whole botox joke comes from another user who made a comment in a video a long time back related to Thomas's CGI stare

i never could let the botox joke out of my head, i think the tuber was unknownthomasfan1....i think

  • I noticed on the back of the new collectors checklist (like the one included with the Dieselworks set) that there is a set featuring Percy, Kevin, and two flatbeds, one of which has a load with no magnetic attachment point. Instead, there's a little loop for Kevin's non-magnetic hook, so he can lift the load. Perhaps then maybe old Happy Hook isn't so useless after all.. provided of course that you have a set with the non magnet loop load. Hmm..

Just a random ramble, sorry if it is a bit long.

  • I respect your opinion about the Wooden Railway set, but I disagree. You must remember, this is for the little kids, not for us to sit around raving and ranting about. It's for fun. But (I know, I'm gonna sound like a huge hypocrite here), the Take-and-Play set is a piece of crap.

  • @MrMPS2002 hey i have a little kid and he never connected to this wood set, not sure if you know my son is 2 years old and he certainly shows me what good and bad about toys

take your rage to another channel please, i'm very happy doing what I do well

  • @leokimvideo Hey, Hey, Whoa Now! I wasn't raging! I was just commenting, about my thoughts on the wooden Dieselworks. If you took offense, I apologize, but please know, I wasn't raging or trying to be a troll.

  • @MrMPS2002 shut up bitch f u

  • Hm, Percy's face looks more CGI'ed than the older wooden Percy. I recently went to a hobby shop and saw a bunch of characters that got their faces butchered like that. :-(

The Take 'n' Play Dieselworks seems kinda cheap IMO, considering this is the third(?) time they've used the "circle of track + flat building" setting. Glad they added that other part, though.

  • Could you do a custom Take & Play layout and show us it, I would be interested in seeing it.

  • Whatever happened to quality in toymaking? Is Santa Claus the only one who cares about toy quality?

P.S. Don't come to the U.S. We are financially f***ed as it is.

  • @LNER4771 you know from the times I have been to the USA i always loved the food, the serving sizes and variety

here in Oz we don't have diners, and I feel America does fantastic breakfast meals

    ah, the memories

  • @LNER4771 amen... thing is the US are just as overpriced as in Australia...

  • All love

  • Where's the old villain we a

  • You know, you could try hacking into Den And Dart and putting metal weights in them. I don't have Den or Dart but what I said may work.

  • @thomasfan93 yep den and dart are very light models, in fact so is flynn and belle considering their large size

at least they won't destroy a large LCD TV being so light..! young kids can throw these toys and they can cause real damage

  • Once again, a very good review Leo! I like the way these sets are made and I agree that the smelters hook thing on the wooden set is useless. I'd probably leave it out and find it broken because I didn't put it away right. Also, I have sevearl Percys, & that one looked like he overdid the botox a bit! Finally, one last niggle: Koko is an electric engine, and wouldn't have any reason to go to the dieselworks.

  • the percy face is too fat, and the rolling stock has been like that always

  • @Legoghost14 has the wooden railway ALWAYS had plastic rolling stock....hmmmmm i don't think so, go look at the older classic "all wood" stuff

  • @leokimvideo what i meant is that i have a black rail car like the one shown here. It's from, i think 2003. I also had plastic cargo. But as time has gone by i lost it, along with the very strange rubber trash cargo.

  • Percy got the new CGI Face.

  • The wooden model Percy in that playset has a different face to the one that is sold individually, which I think has a much better looking face. The new face on this playset Percy is probably a mirror of his CGI face in the TV series.

  • I like the Wooden Thomas playsets. They've become very elaborate over the years.

I hate Diesel 10's new CGI face. What's worse is that they've started using it on his wooden model. I'm glad I managed to pick up a classic wooden model of him with his old evil face :)

  • The boilor for this Percy is not like my Percy. This Percy needs to loose wait.

  • @14warr interesting, a few people are seeing a change in boiler shape

  • The wooden set looks pretty good. Probably one of the best parts is the fact that they decided to base a set around a character other than Thomas. Over the years I've ended up with countless doubles of Thomas simply because of him being included in every set.

As for that cargo car - I do actually think it's better that they included something as basic as that. In my opinion, the amount of basic rolling stock for the wooden range is always hard to get, usually only included in larger sets.

  • I prefer the old model engines before CGI.

  • Well, the cargo car(s) have always been made that way since the first one. (not sure when & which) Logic: not really possible to make that shape w/ aspecs out of wood.

  • @J50Tank8905 what part does this plastic car play out in day of the diesels..?, there is loads of very interesting rolling stock available yet it's not seen in this playset

  • @leokimvideo Point there. I cannot disagree. Something different was exactly what this set needed (deserves). :-)

  • I think I'll just make my own

  • Percy's Face is the thing that has changed

  • Perceys face Chaned

  • @leokimvideo awsome vid :) :).:)

  • what strange about the wooden set is that the light in diesel 10`s shed is much brighter and more visiable on the advert for it

  • @bertiethebusfan14 now thats very interesting, hmmmmmm i wonder why..!

  • @leokimvideo and the cargo cars has changed colour and also its load. it was red with a scrap metal load in the advert do you think learning curve are trying to con people by making this set look better in the advert

  • You have a good point about the reviews... How about you try piecing together all of your Take N Play or Wooden Railway to show us what you really have... maybe to show an aspect od compadibility amung the same franchise?

  • the wooden set does look like utter rubbish to me, the take along looks a lot better, im with you on the bad sides with review, i try my best to say the bads with my trains but the companys do detail well most of the time, i think your toy reviews are some of the best on yt and i really enjoy watching them weather its thomas or lego, could you do any more lego city reviews for us?

    cheers

    luke

  • @TheLukei quite simply i feel as soon as you start to see batteries added to a toy like a wooden railway there's always a sniff of trouble

kids don't need these sorts of toys to talk to them

  • Percy's goofy old face has been replaced by CGI.. I'd say the change suits him better than on the Wooden Diesel 10.

I liked your review of the two separate Dieselworks. Always so detailed, and hitting the bad as well as the good, I quite enjoy it. To me, the TakeN'Play works better being the main shed and the turntable inside, despite all its embarrassing flaws. The Wooden Dieselworks has go too much going on, and would be better without the transfer-slidey-thing going on there.

  • Leo Disel dosent have fingers hes a train!

  • when is the mini thomas contest over ?

  • Personally I prefer the take and play, it lacks the main characters, but it's as close to ERTL as we're ever gonna get now :/ good review as ever Leo :)!

  • I liked this review of the two sets. Very detailed as ever Leo! I think from what you have shown us from both of these sets I would choose the Take 'n' Play. My reason for this, I just think it looks more accurate and more fun to play with! Great job once again Leo?

  • Its £20.00 over in england!

  • D: NO TREVOR!!!

  • I was in Toys R Us recently and I found myself being quite critical of the quality of the wooden train sets I saw there in light of your reviews. I agree, there is in many cases too much plastic in them (especially in the Chuggington sets). I really appreciate your reviews and how they inform me as a consumer... THANK YOU!!!

  • That cargo wagon is actually quite old because I also have one from 2003.

  • On my opinion I think the prices for these sets are outragous in America or Australia these sets are just made of mostly plastic. For the trains in the wooden set the Percy is very fat in the face. Diesel 10 should be more angry. Plus I think they should of added a fire feature like in the movie.

  • I'm pretty sure the only thing they changed on Percy was the face, which is a shame. It looks fatter in the lower area now.

  • 10:57 Bad luck hits Duck again.

  • 07:47 Poor Duck; ever since the show converted to 100% CGI, he's always had bad luck, right?

  • Nice dolly zoom

  • My personal opinion, I actually like Diesel 10's appearence in the CGI series, but my problem with the toy is, though I understand the toys must be akin to the new CGI design, it fails even in that aspect, as it looks nothing like what he does in the new show, look at the box at 1:48 to see what he should look like now

I was tempted to buy one or both of these for my OO layout, looks like I will have to make a Hornby Dieselworks entirely from scratch as I don't feel the detail is enough =/

  • Pedo-Pinchy.

    "Get's excited" around steamies.

  • @BhanuHabbo be very careful, your comments often reflect much about yourself..!

  • @leokimvideo Ah yesh.

    I'm young, I don't think much :P

  • @BhanuHabbo ... that was lame.

  • @ULTIMAFOX22 Thank you :)

  • Awesome! :)

  • The Percy At the Dieselworks set, feels that it needs something a little more to it. Some more Diesels (Den & Dart in particular), rolling stock (some fuel & oil tankers would be nice), track, & a couple destinations (like the Diesel Fuel Depot) would be nice. Would be cool to see what you can do to make the set feel more lively.

  • @Omeganui what the set needs is two sheds on the side loops (thomas's prison) so there is a tie in with what happens in the film day of the diesels, as it stands the whole set is abstract to what ever happened in the film

it will be interesting to hear just how many thomas wooden railway fans desire this set

it it came with Den and Dart or even Diesel it would be a killer set

  • @leokimvideo Nonetheless, I'd still get the set & spice it up.

Plus, that Percy has the new "CGI" face, which I'm not to keen on.

  • your ad is missing

  • @littlegalah i don't do em anymore, i stopped selling out and do it for love, give it a go and see who you feel

it's time youtube reverted back to what it used to be

  • @littlegalah if you watch the video i have a little chat about reviews and what constitutes advertising, for you it would be worth your while hearing what I have to say

far too many tuber just pump the network with crap chasing a few dollars, i would rather only ever upload stuff which will help consumers decide and peer through the fog of items held high by multi million dollar empires

  • @littlegalah here is a little math problem for you, i know your a clever chap

this review took 5 days of 10 hours of work to present to youtube, that's 50 hours of work. how many views do i need before I break even and don't forget i pay for the toys with my own money, i'm not a sponsored partner

it's not money growing on trees as everyone makes out it to be, at least not for me, unlike the mega vlogging partners I have to work hard for every view

  • @leokimvideo I know the work and cost and your videos are high end. I love to click on your videos. I'm not pimping out my channel but I need to run ads because I'm trying to put my life back on track. After she took off I ended up living in the car for a week. and my only other income is the pension.

  • @littlegalah wow, never knew you hit the hard times

to pull any sort of income here you need to pull massive views, and believe me that ain't easy, i'm no communitychannel beauty..!

you better pray for a big spider to enter your life, they always bring me good luck

  • @leokimvideo the money I'm getting is keeping the car on the road and helping my pay my dad back who paid for it for me

  • @littlegalah lets hope in the future you will comment in relation to something relevant to the video, it's a really bad look to be a advertising guru here

and i ask you please never do a RWJ style video on me, thats not what the tube is all about

  • @leokimvideo Leo you are one of the good guys on the tube and you are what youtube is all about. Good videos, helping and supporting others.

  • the older diesel 10 is bigger, has a darker colour and is DEVIOUS!

  • finally, the review is here
