Hey man, I agree with the comment you made about the mountains helping heal bitterness and hatred of people. I served with a US Special Operations Team for 15months in Iraq and I was/am pretty mentally tore up from my experiences there and after returning from war. My wife is sending me on a through hike for a graduation present when I graduate with my horticulture degree AAS in a year. I hope to see ya on the A-T in a year Katahdin to Springer mountain bound-mountainman28713.

The Smokes are easy, compared to the what was south of there. But you bring up a good point, why waste time on a thu-hike of the AT when there are better trails to thru hike, like the PCT which you hiked. This is something those with just those 6 months for a hike to consider ........ you want to hang in the bar or get the most wilderness from you trip ..... your choice.
