  • Beautiful job on this great song

  • My pawpaw loved Lloyd green.. Pawpaw had a lloyd green model showbud steel... He could play this song and it sound just like Lloyd... I wish he was still alive to teach me to play. Lloyd is definitely one of the best steel players that has ever walked the earth...

  • When I worked for Buckeroo Jerry Brightman, building Performance steel guitars, he excused himself to make a phone call. He called me into the office, and handed me the phone. It was Lloyd on the other end! We talked for 45 minutes about his old Fingertip Sho Bud. I was totally freaked for about 20 seconds. Lloyd made me feel like I was talking to an old friend! A really intelligent guy, and an amazing talent! I will never forget that phone call!

  • Sorry to say that Country Music today sucks! Young girls that can't carry a tune (TS)with a bucket and youg men that should be listed on rock and roll stations are ruling country stations.

We need more sounds like Jones, Haggard, Williams, and AJ

  • just heard this for the first time he's something else

  • i think he made it talk WOW so nice

  • love this

  • Awesome

  • this is what today's country music is missing, everything made these days is crap, god bless the steel guitar

  • Lloyd is my first cousin. I remember my uncle whipping his ass when he didn't practice. He was a child prodigy of sorts and one hell of a great guy.

  • @kichohana Then you are very lucky - most of us can only imagine ever meeting this living legend!

  • @kichohana - Hi there - I'm Uncle Lloyds niece Kathleen ( WJ's daughter). Uncle Lloyd is difinitely one of the best steel guitarists in the world !

  • Notice how on his picking hand how between cords how he moves his fingers so they won't cramp up!!

  • @Redblazer500 He is not using his fingers, he is using side palm to relax or to block

  • Awesome!

  • He is tremendous!

  • Lloyd is the reason I started playing Steel. I used to work for former Buckeroo, Jerry Brightman at Performance Steel guitars. One day, we were sitting in the office, just chewin' the fat. Jerry picked up the phone and made a call. He handed me the phone, and Lloyd was on the other end! After I got over the shock of hearing my hero's voice, we had an hour long conversation. A wonderful, gracious man! I mean,,,,, how many people get to talk to their "hero?" I feel so graced!

  • @maohu

I met Lloyd at a jam seesion at Jeff Neumans Pedal steel school back in the 80's.He gave an up close lesson on the " Farewell Party " solo...Also explained that Farewell Party was an after thought added to the end of the session..Lloyd said it was done in two takes and he hadn't even charted the song before cutting it..All done wwith skill and feeling..and you're right ..he is a class guy...!! Butch Emmons

  • breath taking beautiful solo what a genius awesome incredible why is he weeping?anyone know the story on this?

  • This song makes a man cry...grat song...tks dud!!!!!!

  • ...wow.

Smooth Mr. Green. I feel that.

  • There's no doubt this guy is the best steel player around. I love his sound.

  • Can anyone tell me why is he so tearful? I was almost in tears myself by the end and I didn't know the lyrics or the song!!

  • Phenomenally beautiful! I just cannot stop listening to this wonderful playing. I am a 6-string player, and this looks frighteningly difficult, but he has an effortless grace and musicality about him that is otherworldly!! Many thanks for the post!

  • cool i didnt even know what a steel guitar was on until today,, and it sounds awesome

  • Lloyd and John Hughley were 2 of the greatest musicians Ever. Thanks for sharing

  • I keep returning to this one performance (in addition to that of Gene Watson). Great song, expertly played by Lloyd Green. Kudos!

  • @Bonnydel Lloyd still is.

  • @Bonnydel I also keep returning to this video, I have done for over a year now .

  • @Bonnydel Me too i love this song and llyod green

  • I will never know why people complain about all the garbage that is online. There is just as much beauty, you just have to choose it. I bet I could spend the rest of my life just finding gems like this. Knowing there are wonderful people sharing the very best that they have experienced. I came here because I am a Gene Watson fan. Now I'm a Lloyd green and Steelpicker fan ! WOW! What a way to start a day ! Thanks !

  • @schrader1113 Thank you for the compliments. Yes there is garbage on here, but I try my best to post only greal REAL country music.

    Enjoy,

    Bill

  • WOW

  • omg..so awesone!!!

  • the Man is a pickin wizzard,......love the sound

  • Beautiful, he sure is some player.

  • it's just second nature to Lloyd Green. Lovely,

  • If only we had more steel guitar in today's country music!

  • @tallestmountain some of it does just have to listen. easton corbins a little more country than that does have a pedal steel in it

  • that would have been worth the price of admission to the whole convention. lloyd green, buddy emmons, curly chalker and so many other amazing talents.

  • This is a classic Steel Guitar cry. Takes a hell of alot of talent. Last time a steel was featured on songs was back in the 60's Santo and Johnny had a string of hits. One of which was Sleepwalk.

  • I agree. those bar-slants and pedal work is quite remarkable and interesting.

May be this specific style has not yet been fully investigated for what it really is.

  • But how comes, .....we don't see this sorta stuff on our TV-Sets?

  • If you like this and want to be blown away by another picker, watch/listen Dave Hartley, a BRIT no less. This man is seriously talented and would be right at home picking in Nashville.......it's worth your time to listen to him on YouTube. davepedalsteel will take you there. I've heard NONE better.

  • this would sound even better with a nice slow organ in it nothing fancy just playing along with just chords

  • The steel solo on the Gene Watson original is one of the best ever.Did he play on that?

  • Yes, that is why I chose this song to air of Lloyd.

  • it swings, its live country music - ragged no way.

  • very nice! i love this sound....but how much is a guitar like this?? thanx..

  • It swings. It is just as I can imagine a steel guitar to sound. It's only missing Gene Watson on the vocals. This is great dance music.

  • I agree 100%. Nuff said.

  • Lloyd Green's "Steel Rides" album from the 1970's remains my favorite pedal steel album. It is superb!!!

  • Anyone besides me think the timing was ragged

in places? Nevertheless, a fantastic rendition!

    Thanks for the post!

  • Nope, I think it was almost to perfection. Very laid back, unlike today's bass and drums on top of the beat music

  • Ragged !!! what medication are you on, they need to tripple it as its not working ... only jokeing.

This example is just about as good as it gets, I wish I had a fraction of LDG skill.

  • The comment was NOT aimed at Lloyd, just the overall sound. I've been a fan of his for many years. He's tops in my book. Now, onto the point: Is the modern day so-called

music just perfect because so many gullible, taste lacking fans say so & buy it, or is there more to it than that? : ) Don't

worry if that went over your head. It's

common to some of the "music" loving crowd now days. Triple is spelled as you

see it here, NOT with 2 ps. : )

  • The timing was on the Money, no offense intended but I'm a finger picker and your fingerpickin could use a few touches.Lloyd has played on more hits in Nashville maybe than about anyone.most of Charley Pride Tammy Wynette, Ricky Scaggs Jack Greene.Listen to the DRUMS it is dead on timing Lloyd is truly a pro!.

  • So my comment woke up some of you. Good!

The comment wasn't aimed at Lloyd, guys.

Don't jump to conclusions so quickly.

You guys see anything wrong with rap and

hip hop? : ) Or is the beat right on? : )

  • I checked out your postings, and it sounds like you could use a few touches also, like in the humility department. No offense, but all the GREATS that come across as genuine have that characteristic. I have other talents other than guitar, but I don't feel compelled to brag about them. The

proof is in the pudding, don't you think? : )

    Truce? : )

  • This is absolutely wonderful! I'd no idea that the pedal steel could be a "proper" lead instrument. I've listened to this ten times in a row. Just terrific.

If you want to see something more recent of Lloyd's work, type "Secret Life of Roses Cunningham" into YouTube search. Scottish folk musician Phil Cunningham wrote this song with Roseanne Cash - part of a BBC series on the influence of Scottish music. Lloyd is tremendous. Great song too, and super performance by Andrea Zonn.

  • awsome I love the steel guitar

  • Yow...

  • god, I can just hear tammy singing over this. SO great!

  • This video left me speechless. I have heard a lot of steel before but this is some of the best to date. Thanks.

  • So beautiful.

  • Wonderful Lloyd Green-FANTASTIC

  • I think he "retired" not long after this due to a hearing problem. That could be what his comment was about.

  • Lloyd did go into retirement due to inner ear problems, but later he was and still is picking again.

    Bill

  • To all those that left remarks below, yes it is in ones own taste, But remember friends, Lloyd Green is the most recorded Steel Player in Nashville, so I myself think that speaks for itself. And yes we have lost many great Hall of Famers as of late. God Bless You All, and keep steelin.

  • FANTASTIC, WHAT A SOUND. Keep up the videos

  • Very Heart-felt video. Lloyd Green influenced thousand's of players young and old. It all depends on your taste in regards to who's your favorite. Buddy Emmons (for my taste) is the best there ever was, is, or will be.

  • Steelpicker, I keep coming back to this vid - it is one of the best Pedal Steel examples I've ever seen. I love when Lloyd plays the same not is quick succesion on 3 different strings! I do that on my electric bass now, thanks to Lloyd!

  • 'Live at Panther Hall' - yes, I've heard that that album is THE Lloyd Green album with all its pick/blocking and other stuff! I have some of those tracks on a Charley Pride compilation - absolutely awesome! :-)

  • Before he starts he says "It's only fitting that I play farrwell party"?

    Why??

Makes me think the steel community may have lost someone not long before this performance.

  • No, not the reason at all. Lloyd played on the original record with Gene Watson and it became a classic song and a classic steel guitar break.

    Bill

  • What about the death of John Hughey. The best steel player ever.

  • Look at the video title. I recorded this video in 1992. John passed in 2997

    Bill

  • Steelpicker! Keep them coming. I live in Scotland and started playing steel in 1975 having made a steel from scrap pieces. I still marvel at American steel players. Superb. Give me more

  • Steelpicker! You get the greatest steel videos. Keep up the fantastic work my Friend. Thanks again.

  • A little bit of heaven

  • I agree with you. I have always loved it too.

  • about five years ago I played some ATB for my brother he is 64 years old, and been playing pedal steel for 30 years he listen to the ATB track and looked at me kinda strange....

  • I have always loved this instrument.

This man makes it sound like a beautiful singing voice.

  • I love it as well

  • Let's hope the party is't over yet

    Keep up the good work

What else is there to say ..

  • I had the pleasure of having Lloyd Green & Scotty in our old motorhome for sandwiches & beer, after a P.S.G.A. show in Armonk, N.Y. It was an honor! Your autographs are still on the wall, fellas.....

  • Sadly, I never got to see either of them live - you were lucky! :-)

  • Let harass the top brass at Guitar Center to start advertising Lap steel. We need to keep this instrument alive for the future. I have never seen anyone under 25 that even likes Lap Steel let alone plays one.

  • I'm 21 and play pedal steel - if that counts? :)

  • What do you mean 5 stars This is at least 10 stars

  • This is terrific! I see that he made quite a number of albums over his lifetime. Is there any chance that they would be available again on DVD ??????

  • Edwahd, I seriously doubt it.

  • I have asked the same question of someone 'in the know' and apparently the original 'masters' aren't up to reproducing - or so I'm told.....:-(

  • BRAVO!!!! ENCORE!!!! 5 STARS!.........Linda

  • What else is there to say but WOW!!!!

  • Gene Watson couldn't have done it any better.

  • Words fail in the presence of the master :O

  • Thank you for posting this tallented man. Lloyd Green is one of my fav steel players. Regards fom London Uk. Cowboymachito ~v~

  • That was excellent, I always liked the sound of the JCH guitars.

    thanks for posting

  • I laughed when i saw your comment........then i heard the tune!

  • I learned the E9th from getting my hands on everything and anything Lloyd Green, longer ago than either one of us wants to remember. You are The Greatest, Mr. Green!

  • He is the one! Steel guitar is Lloyd Green.

  • That is what pedal steel is all about,Tasteful. Lloyd has always pushed the boundarys and found new ways on E9th but has always kept it Taseful , a master .

  • This guy is the reason I love the STEEL !!!!No ONE does it better or ever will...He is also the reason I have been a student since '71 I not quite as smooth as Lloyd just yet... neither is Buddy Emmons

  • GREAT video! Thanks steelpicker!

    Dennis

    Shingletown, CA.

  • dont get any better then that..WOW..smoooth!

  • Smooth as

  • WOWW!!! Like others, Lloyd Green is my absolute favorite. I have been playing recreational steel for 35 yrs. and he is the reason I started playing when I heard him w/ Charlie Pride. And when I look at this I feel like an amateur. Wow!!!

  • That's like a dream come true - to be able to see the Master himself!

    Thanks for the video!!!

  • Lloyd Green is and has always been my favorite pedal steel guitarist! There are other greats, but there's only ONE Mr. Nashville Sound!!!

  • What a great clip!

Anyone know what effects box he's using (see 0:26)?

He tweaks it a couple times while he's playing.

  • I recall hearing at one time that all the effects that Lloyd used was an RV3 reverb pedal.

  • Sweet !
