Solstrom is the name of the show where this clip was from. A couple of years back, Cirque du Soleil created a short TV series that featured several acts taken from many of their shows.
Ok. I am a big fan of the Cirque but I am not really familiar with Solstrom. When I watched this video I was confused because this looks like the exact same act as the arial straps routine from Varekai even down to the costumes. Those are the same looks the twins had from Varekai.....can someone clue me in?
Okay, Solstrom is a tv series from Cirque, which features acts from seasoned Cirque performers as well as other acrobats.
The new filmings of the acts are very good, but I'd not reccomend buying the dvds as the non-cirque acts are not all as high-quality and the total product is not up to scratch. If you want a good tv series from cirque, buy fire within.
Thanks for the response! I have "Fire Within" as a series but I thought Solstrom was a full Cirque show. Thank you for clarifying that....does each Cirque show come in individual dvds of just the show itself?
Solstrom is the way Cirque du soleil is reaching out to people who cant afford Cirque or who can not acsess the show. Solstrom is a mix of acts from the shows, altered acts from the shows, or artists who Cirque feels has contributed significantly to the circus arts globally
Guys, if you don't like the music behind it, mute the sound and watch these guys! I saw them in rehearsal without any music at all and I was truely stunned:)
SWEET!! im gonna go watch them in a few days i think its really kool.i can bend my back farther than most people and i think it would be really neat to do somthing like that =]
I think is very admirable(and risky from her voice)for Laur Fugere who is a light soprano to sing this, ballare(the aerial pas de deux from Dralion)and all the rest of the song that were composed from so many diferent vocal ranges.
This song was actually composed for a soprano/high-mezzo, so imho, it's not that risky for her to sing this.
Ballare is sung by Estelle Esse on Solstrom, not Laur.
I have a lot of respect for her vocal technique, but it was a big mistake letting her sing all these songs. I still to this day don't understand why they let Zara sing Vocea and not El Pendulo. And that goes for a lot of songs (Debbie, Aerial Contortion in Silk)
oh "dying cat with it's nose pinched" that shows how many knowledge do u have about the human voice, probably u r an expert voice teacher or a superb musician...wait no real musician would ever say something like that so u probably r just some ignorant person who loves to bitching on people that u don't even know
You're right, I am not an expert voice teacher or a professional musician, but I am a singer and I know good vocal technique when I hear it. Some people like Laur, for what reason I don't know, some others dislike her. Your opinion is yours and my opinion is mine. I was trying to be nasty on purpose or insulting Laur just because I can.
Maybe you should follow your own rule and get to know me before you start insulting me.
well i sing opera and i don't see anything wrong with her technique(besides my original comment was about her tessitura not her technique)actually Laur Fugere is one of the few Cirque du soleil singers who actually have a study of sing and do have "bel canto" technique(that is base of every technique) but here she's not singing opera, she's singing according to what is needed for this part, being nasty because u "can" is not going to make u a better person...don't see it as an insult see it as tip
The thing is, people are comparing her to the woman who usually sings this in Varekai, and I have to say, I like Varekai's version of the song better also.
What happened to Zara Tellander??? She sang the original version of this (and the other songs) but then she left and Isabelle is the new singer. Thank God Mathieu is there!
No matter how many times I see this, it just tranfixes me!! It's mesmorizing!! Enthralling!! Amazing!! Beautiful!! sooooooooooooo preettttttyyyyy!!!!!
I saw them perform this in Varekai back in May of 2002 and was totally blown away...I was always a big fan of the aerial acts, but the twin factor definately made it even better, the mirror image and syncronization. Definately my favorite act of the show [next to the Icarian Games...and John <3]
the comment about shaving...their arms have to be shaved otherwise the straps will grab ahold of the hair and rip it out...as is the case in most aerial acts...this set of twins aerial act is truly amazing!
The female singer is Laur Fugère who used to be a singer at Saltimbanco. She performed at Soleil de Minuit in 2004 and now is a talent scout for Cirque du Soleil singers.
is there a audience in solstrom?

Pause it at 5:22 and you will see that the weight of both bodies is being held by just one (twisted) wrist. That is totally amazing!

@thunderrumbling I know! That part killed me so much! It looked so painful and was very suspenseful.

They are the twins. This is a t.v series that sort of ......... they do the same act as in Varekai. Hard to explain.

Every touring Cirque show has been filmed and comes in a seperate dvd. They sometimes have extras like interviews, making ofs, etc.
The only permanent show that has been filmed is La Nouba.

Doesn't sound anything like a "light soprano" to me. Sounds like a dying cat with it's nose pinched.

Zara Tellander now sings in "O" at the Bellagio
