Of course it's THE kilt (not "a kilt" as you erroneously stated!) BUT the kilt IS a skirt, same as a Ford Mustang IS an automobile. Kilts are specific skirt types forming a subset of the MASTER CATEGORY of SKIRTS---garments which hang from the waist and enclose the legs together rather than separating them. Yes, kilts pertain to the SAME master category as ballet tutus & fluffy square dance petticoats (other specific styles.) At least the Greeks don't deny what their men wear is a SKIRT.
