Magnificent work that I hear for the first time. Inbal directed me 20 years ago for the 3rd and 8th Mahler's symphony at the théâtre du Châtelet, Paris. I have always liked his style since.
i think inbal is underrated, i once bought a cd, shost 10th with the vienna symphonic, inbal was conducting, it's one of my finest cds, never found another rendition like it, and also this one is absolutely breathtaking...
The OU Symphony Orchestra just performed this for our Halloween show and it was absolutely exquisite. Much better in person than listening over computer speakers.
The Tempest (Burya), Symphonic Fantasia after Shakespeare, Op. 18, is a symphonic poem in F minor by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky composed in 1873. It was premiered in December 1873, conducted by Nikolai Rubinstein.(From Wikipedia)...and I don't understand either, why someone commented "he deserved better life"...If I could achived in life only a minimal expression of what he did I would be the happiest person in the whole world.
Tchaikovsky was tormented all his life by his affection for women and love for men, which in those days couldn't be revealed publicly. He married a woman (a girl, actually) once, but this marriage proved to be disastrous (and legendarily short).
Apparently however, the sorrows that haunted him have influenced his creative life in the most fertile way...

@sondano Good comment but there is a lot of really great music that is rarely played at concerts, on radio etc. whereas we get the 1,000,0000th performace of a Mahler symphony for instance just because it happens to be fashionable at the moment. Great music is above fashion and is for all time.
@sondano I was once told by a musician that certain conductors were reluctant to perform works with quiet endings as they did not generate the same audience response. If I was an orchestra manager I would never hire anyone with such an unprofessional approach, ego before the music!!
The best musician of all time. Concerts, symphonies, fantasies, ballet music, symphonic poems, operas, etc.Great pianist, violinist, conductor. An integrated music. He deserved a better life.
@ODTROG He did NOT play Violin......His Violin Concerto was only written cause of a good friend Iosif Kotek, but it was dedicated to someone else because he was afraid ppl would think he was having "relations" with the young violinist.....
El mejor músico de todos los tiempos. Conciertos, sinfonías, fantasías, música para ballet, poemas sinfónicos, ópera, etc.Gran pianista, violinista, director de orquesta. Un músico íntegro. Merecía una vida mejor.
...fantástico!!...como recrea el ambiente!!!

@ODTROG I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "He deserved a better life"? I was just curious and wished to know more about Tchaikovsky's life.

It's so special to have this time machine, to dig up the works of the master I could never necessarily buy in haste.
