@guitarandbass1995 anyways, this was a good performance, Edge and Matt were awesome, it just feels weired seeing Muse with four people on the main stage, still very good tho.
god dammit, i can never enjoy good comments because little comment debates fill all the god damn comment section... and yes, i'm speaking of @PlayinForTheMusic and @AbbeyRoadkill1
After their career is finally over, U2 will not only leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of rock, they’ll leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of music. Their 'competition' isn't just rock legends like The Beatles, Elvis, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones-- it's people like Mozart, Beethoven, George Gershwin, and Duke Ellington. U2 are one of the ALL-TIME greats. To understand you must listen to their ENTIRE catalog. It rivals anyone's-- EVER.
i'm tired of this useless comparing! I'm 43 i saw 15 u2 gigs since 1985,obviosly i really love u2,but for me Muse are a better live band,1 of the greatest live band ever( saw them live 6 times since 2001)U2 are great(I love Edge's style he create his own style, easy but remarkable),but as musicians Muse are unreacheable especially Matt Bellamy, don't forget that he sing and he play guitar(one of the best guitar player ever)and piano, being inspired by rachmaninoff, chopin, lizst!I love both bands!
@spikelive Let's all remember that this is Muse covering U2, not the other way around. U2 has never-- and will never-- cover a Muse song. The only covers U2 do are songs by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, because that's who they really admire.
@spikelive They are both awesome bands and will definitely be remembered in music history. I think that Muse are better, but U2 have a 30 year history out there and, so far, that makes them more respectable. And I need to tell you that Muse are my favourite band, while U2 is not even on my top 3.
@1994savvas Sounds like you need a serious music history lesson. Muse are a good band but-- in terms of all-time great rock bands-- they aren't even in the Top25. Ever heard of The Beatles? Led Zeppelin? The Rolling Stones? The Jimi Hendrix Experience? The Who? Pink Floyd? The Clash? Bruce Springsteen & the 'E' St. Band? The Kinks? Nirvana? REM? Radiohead? Queen? Jethro Tull? Talking Heads? AC/DC? Red Hot Chili Peppers? The Cure? No disrespect 2 Muse, but they still have a ways 2 go.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 Yeah, I don't doubt it. What I said is that Muse are too "new" to be compared to all those bands. And by saying "top 3", I wasn't talking about the 3 best bands ever, but for my personal favourites. i think we are saying the same thing, but I was not clear to what I said and created a confusion.
@1994savvas I get yer drift & I'm not trying to rag on people's tastes in music. I believe in "to each their own." But I would still contend that if you truly schooled yourself on all the great bands of history, Muse would fall out of your top3. I've been listening to music for decades, and anyone worthy of the moniker 'rock fan' has to admit The Beatles are #1 and The Stones/Zeppelin are #2 & 3. I just get tired of people proclaiming relatively new bands 'greatest ever' prematurely.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 i'm 43...j saw gigs of pink floyd, police, pearl jam,u2(15gigs),simple minds(17gigs,most underrated band ever)Springsteen, rem, radiohead(best band of the last 20 Years with Muse 4me),Cure,red hot chili, depeche mode,ac/dc,coldplay...they're all great bands, but 4 me MUSE ARE THE BEST LIVE BAND EVER and one of the greatest band ever!...MATT BELLAMY IS A GENIUS!from alternative rock to classical music...no one like HIM ,4 me!...obviously it's my thought!greetings from italy
@spikelive That's cool. Good to see you're not just a passive 'radio listener' fan and you actually get out to concerts to see your favorite artists. I agree with you that Radiohead are the best band of the last 20 years (with an honorable mention for Nirvana-- though they weren't around very long). But the best LIVE band ever is clearly Led Zeppelin, with U2 close behind. Muse are great, but they don't pluck you out of your seat and take you to another planet the way Zep used to-- and U2 does.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 unfortunately i didn't see a led zepellin gig!and i'm really sad ..but 4me (and i play u2 cover, cause i really love u2 ,j saw 15 gigs the 1st one in1985)there no match Muse are better musicians compared with U2 ,and j love especially ed'e's style ,he got his own wonderful style...but Muse's drummer and bass player are better than adam clayton and larry mullen....and Matt Bellamy Is" beyond " everything and everyone,a Genius...obviously this is only,my opinion! ciao cheers!
@spikelive For me, who's technically a 'better musician' is not the issue (if you're looking for technicality, try Yo Yo Ma!) It matters who writes better songs-- songs that are timeless & reach every person on the planet. On that level Muse can't compete with U2. Bono & The Edge have written timeless song after timeless song. Muse has yet to write a 'One,' or 'Pride (In The Name Of Love),' or 'Sunday Bloody Sunday,' or 'Where The Streets Have No Name.' Great songs>great musicianship.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 buddy,i don't want argue with you about U2,because as i wrote in the last comment,i really love U2,i adore U2 and i share your thought about pride, streets ,sbsunday, bad, still haven't found, with or without you!but the same thought is good for me about Ruled by secrecy, citizen erased, butterflies and hurricanes, exo politcs, space dementia, bliss, sunburn,mk ultra, the 3 exogenesis symphony even, especially for the quality of the lyrics !
@spikelive and for me the difference is also that play muse's song is hardest than play u2 songs...hahaha! than it's true that the edge has his wonderful own style, but as he said in 1984(during the making of unforgettable fire),he was inspired by charlie burchill(simple minds guitarist)that more or less some years before the edge, invented that kind of echoes sound, that in the middle of the 80's edge daniel lanois and brian eno developed, creating the shimmer effect! anw for two awesome bands
@spikelive By the way, what's really, really, really difficult to do is write timeless, unforgettable melodies that reach the ears of every person on the planet Earth. U2 has a long track record of doing that. I'm not trying to degrade Muse-- they're an excellent band-- but they have yet to do that.
@spikelive Those are all good Muse songs-- with the emphasis on 'good' (they're not timeless). There is no Muse tune I've heard yet except perhaps "Uprising" or "Supermassive Black Hole" that will still be played 50 or 100 years from now (& I'm familiar with all Muse's albums except 'Showbiz'). If you're looking for music that's 'hard to play,' Muse is not it. Again, Yo Yo Ma is a much better example of 'difficult' music. Rock'n roll is not hard music (even Muse)-- except a few Zeppelin tunes.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 By the way, what's really, really, really difficult to do is write timeless, unforgettable melodies that reach the ears of every person on the planet Earth. U2 has a long track record of doing that. I'm not trying to degrade Muse-- they're an excellent band-- but they have yet to do that.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 doesn't mean a band has legacy and history that they are "great". in every era there are greats, no doubt they were, but Muse are THE band. generation gap, but the level and style of music is different. U2 have been around long enough to achieve this success, but Muse is superior it terms of music, it's technicality, inovation, and live performances.
@PlayinForTheMusic "The Edge is the last person to invent a new way to play the guitar." --Eric Clapton. That's innovation! U2 also writes better songs. Nothing Muse has written is on the same level with 'Sunday Bloody Sunday,' 'Pride (In The Name Of Love),' 'Where the Streets Have No Name,' 'One,' or 'Miss Sarajevo.' I follow modern music closely and I haven't heard that level of songwriting out of Muse yet. Songwriting lasts longer than technicality. Ask The Beatles.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 You take it from a Legend from the same era as him? It's like your asking your mom whether oldies sounds better than some of today's pop trash, it's silly. He made the remark a while ago I remember. They're songs are pretty nice I agree, but it's so stereotype that everytime i hear it i know its U2. Edge invented a new way to play guitar, by using his effects to the max genius I say. But it's become boring, an invention to no great extent. They're work WAS great, past stance.
@PlayinForTheMusic You show your ignorance of music history by thinking Clapton is "the same era" as The Edge-- he's NOT. Clapton's is from the 1960's, The Edge is from the 1980's. As for every song by an artist "sounding the same," MUSE ARE THE ULTIMATE EXAMPLE OF THAT! Every single Muse album sounds like every other one. U2 albums DO NOT all sound the same-- have you ever listened 2 the albums "War," "The Joshua Tree," and "Achtung Baby" back to back to back? That's variety!
Maybe in another decade or two-- if Muse sticks around and keeps making good music-- you could compare them with U2, but not until then. I actually think the closer comparison as of right now is U2 and Radiohead. Muse need to simmer a little longer... Muse = great band, U2 = legends.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 I would say Radiohead pretty much shits on U2 but to each his/her own of course. But from a talent standpoint, Radiohead is clearly streets ahead. lol
Wow this is epic. I can't believe I only just saw this for the first time. Amazing music from two amazing bands. And an astonishing ass on that Christopher Wolstenholme.
look, thumbs up to anyone who has a dream to be in a band and they make it and get famous for writing cool songs and all that.....but some songs should not be covered. this is one of them.
Hey guys, little information on this song and performance. "Where the streets have no name" was written about the streets of Belfast where one could tell someones religion, Catholic or Protestant" from which street they lived on. Matt's mother is from Belfast, Ireland so I reckon this performance meant alot to him, thumbs up to spread the word, two awesome bands, Thomas (:
i have always respected 30 seconds to mars... but god damnit their fans are annoying. Two completely different covers. For me personally, I don't care who the guitarist is, "Streets" has to be played by Edge. As a muse fan I love this version even more because they let Edge play it over Matt, it's just his riff. I respect 30 seconds for trying to give this a different take, but for me it doesn't hold up at all compared to this or the original. Stop spamming this video please.
Wow! This is a really good song :) I wonder why Muse hasn't put it on one of their albums! And that guy with the hat is pretty good at guitar. Is he in the band??
@viperdude281 oh really, shall we do a poll of least annoying frontman? Matt or Bono? I'll get you started, one still writes half decent songs and the other's a wanker preaching about global warming whilst flying everywhere in a private jet
@gdmuse84 I think Bono is the better singer and better song writer. This is a great cover though not many can live up to the expectation like Muse did.
my fav band in the world, linking up with one my fav guitarist in the world, playing one of my fav song in the world... does not get better than that!!
@30echelonsinmars Whilst I respect your opinion, and believe you are perfectly entitled to it, I disagree. Muse headlined the biggest *and most famous* festival in Europe, on it's 40th anniversary and got the Edge up on stage because U2 had been unable to perform. The song was only rehearsed once, without the Edge. So what you're seeing here is just pure talent. 30stm are talented, yes, but Muse are a different league.
@MyGHGHGHGHGHG Well to me, muse is to repetitive and and don't really like his voice. Mars has a way different style, every cd is different. Plus they;ve won against muse several times in vmas or emas. I started liking muse mainly becuase the publicity twilight brought them, but then it turned too predictible. They have good songs, but not enough to make me addictive to them. Sorry for my bad writing, english is not my main language.
@MyGHGHGHGHGHG the one rehearsal thing is pretty impressive though. I appreciate their talent with the guitars, they never run out of new notes. Have they done mtv unplugged?
this is awesome, but the original of U2 in the live concerts is FUCKING OUTSTANDING AWESOME, and @tomek5570 , are u fucking kidding me?, EPIC FAIL? NO WAY BETTER THAN U2 , U2 ARE THE GODS OF MUSIC, Muse are just another great band
I think mU2e would be an awesome band...

Wow! This is a really good song :) I wonder why Muse hasn't put it on one of their albums! And that guy with the hat is pretty good at guitar. Is he in the band??
kylegetson 2 months ago
@kylegetson i really hope you are just trolling!
bunnykingIII 2 months ago 7
@kylegetson you got it all wrong. that guy with the hat is muse and the band is called the edge

you know you've made it as a musician when you can play Glastonbury with The Edge.

This is precise moment that Matt Bellamy knew he had 'made' it!

it might just be me but personally I think Muse shit all over U2
gdmuse84 2 months ago
@gdmuse84 It is most definitely just you.
viperdude281 2 months ago
@viperdude281 oh really, shall we do a poll of least annoying frontman? Matt or Bono? I'll get you started, one still writes half decent songs and the other's a wanker preaching about global warming whilst flying everywhere in a private jet
gdmuse84 1 month ago
@gdmuse84 I think Bono is the better singer and better song writer. This is a great cover though not many can live up to the expectation like Muse did.

jardinsombrio 3 months ago
Nice cover from Matt, keeping his own style but little bit different, in a good, good way :0

I like muse but I believe 30 seconds to mars did a way better version.
30echelonsinmars 4 months ago
@30echelonsinmars Whilst I respect your opinion, and believe you are perfectly entitled to it, I disagree. Muse headlined the biggest *and most famous* festival in Europe, on it's 40th anniversary and got the Edge up on stage because U2 had been unable to perform. The song was only rehearsed once, without the Edge. So what you're seeing here is just pure talent. 30stm are talented, yes, but Muse are a different league.
MyGHGHGHGHGHG 4 months ago 6
@MyGHGHGHGHGHG Well to me, muse is to repetitive and and don't really like his voice. Mars has a way different style, every cd is different. Plus they;ve won against muse several times in vmas or emas. I started liking muse mainly becuase the publicity twilight brought them, but then it turned too predictible. They have good songs, but not enough to make me addictive to them. Sorry for my bad writing, english is not my main language.
30echelonsinmars 4 months ago
@30echelonsinmars beat muse in vmas and emas... wow who cares about them anyway don't mean fuck all
B1GdotProductions 4 months ago
@MyGHGHGHGHGHG the one rehearsal thing is pretty impressive though. I appreciate their talent with the guitars, they never run out of new notes. Have they done mtv unplugged?
30echelonsinmars 4 months ago
@MyGHGHGHGHGHG
Meh, every Muse record is completely different if you ask me. We all have different opinions though. :D
