Bringing back Robert Gentry as GL's Dr. Ed Bauer some three decades later was a curious piece of "retro" casting that might have worked had the actor actually been given a story.
I suspect that these commercials are from September 1967 mainly thought of from me as being the date due to the commercial from "The Guiding Light" being obviously no more than a day or two after Ed and Leslie married in that month.
Is Larry Luckinbill related to Thad Luckinbill (JT) From Y & R. Oh did you know that he played Hank The Math Teacher who was in The Boys In The Band from the 1970's. Also, I'm not sure but Lynne Adams may have been in a Lesbian Documentary from Canada in the 1990's called Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives.
Thad has stated in the past he wasn't related to Larry. It was just by happenstance that the two actors more than a generation apart had the same name.
In n unusual move, Gentry would return to "Guiding Light" in 1996-97 to reprise his role as "Dr. William 'Ed' Bauer," after having played "Ross Chandler" on "All My Children" for several years.
By the soap's end, Peter Simon (also fondly remembered as "Scott Phillips" on "Search For Tomorrow," and in real life the husband of veteran soap actress/writer Courtney Sherman) had played the elder of the sons of "Bill Bauer" longest, followed closely by Mart Hulswit, who succeeded Gentry in the role.
Luckinbill was succeeded as "Frank Carver" by Jack Rylund and Robert Loggia on "The Secret Storm," was also an original cast member of the landmark gay-themed play and film "The Boys In The Band."
Lynne Adams briefly left her role as "Leslie Jackson Bauer Norris Bauer" on "The Guiding Light" to portray "Amy Ames Kincaid" on "The Secret Storm" 1972-73, during a few years when Jada Rowland (who originated the role in 1954, and returned to play it until the soap's cancellation in 1974, one of a few allowed to age a soap character naturally) had taken a leave of absence.
Adams then returned to play "Leslie' until her character was killed off in 1975.
@gymnastix Actually Leslie wasn't killed off until early June 1976, when she was plowed into by a car driven by Spence Jeffers. I remember that well, because it was the first time I remember clearly a character killed off on a soap (when I first started to become addicted to "The Guiding Light" when I was 12 years old -- TGL was the first soap I could come home from school to watch back then).
Love these old promos. Wish there were more out there.

That was another Lynne Adams.
THIS one's most-recent work is as a narrator on the Canadian TV series "How It's Made".
