  • THESE BRUSHES LOOK FANTASTIC!I would especially LOVE to try that 2 red/orange ones!In your quest looking for makeup brushes,do you own or have come across any kind of brushes like the two 24k gold ones (the bristle shape/brush type) or the MAC219 and Sigma'sE45(small tapered blending) that are affordable? The Sigma E45 is great in price but have you seen anything similar yet cheaper than these brushes I mentioned?I would LOVE to purchase these 4 brushes.Sigma is sold out of E45 :'(

    Thanks :-)

  • Have you ever tried Japonesque makeup brushes? How do they compare?

  • I really wish you would've talked more about the actual application performance of them, instead of just the quaulity. If they're just made with more luxurious materials and craftsmanship, but you can get the same effect with cheaper brushes, are they really worth getting? With a price like that, I'd really like to know if they're revolutions in application that will better my artistry. But what I gather from this review is that they're just very well-made versions of common brushes.

  • Only in the US, among a lot of other things, makeup + brushes Are much cheaper than e.g Europe. Yes, some of these Are expensive, but compare to what I have to pay for MAC in Norway they Are not so bad. i will be going to Tokyo soon, and will definetely go for the S-series. So much history and knowledge in the craftmanship of these I almost Get teary- eyed.

  • Totally agree. If you want good quality made in a highcost country, you will have to pay more. Each brush takes a lot of time to make.

  • if you love amazingly soft Japanese brushes, Check out suqqu's brushes

I put myself asleep when I use them on my face.. they're just soooo soft

But beware the prices on them

  • Man, those brushes look AMAZING! Love the orange handles! Not quite understanding how the animals weren't killed to make them, though. Say what? There's a squirrel running around who had his hair used but he's still truckin? I'll have to look into that more, I guess... but I definitely need these!

  • As to mention to cruelty free, even though they said animals were not harmed when collecting their hair, think thru it, how could be it possible to collect hair from a squirrel without harming it? If it's goat, I buy that. But a squirrel? I don't think so. Anyways, the brushes are of very good quality without a doubt. They said they are cruelty free, it is by no means possible if they are collecting hair from highly active animals like squirrels.

  • My first impression of the site was like shopping for a Mercedes. My only thought was damn. When I am filthy rich, I will buy my S series in car and brushes

  • Wtf I just looked at the price for 1brush that is more then a sigma brush set ....sigma is cheaper

  • holy shiiiiit...these are so expensive....

  • Hallo MissChievous, kannst Du ein Tutorial machen, in dem Du auflistest, welche verschiedenen Pinselformen und -typen es gibt, und welcher Pinsel wo und wie verwendet wird? Das wäre super!!

  • i think its super nice and have a high quality.. but its super expensive!! crazy expensive...:(

  • Know what? F Hakuhodo AND mac, I'm gettin Elf.

  • Naked aninals Lol

  • choosing between a Hukohodo brush set or ipad2 for christmas...

  • @persnickitty Hukohodo brush set is going to last much longer then ipad2.... =)

  • wow your make up great can you do video about this video make up thank you

  • Sigh* I wish I could afford these brushes. I am so picky about having super soft brushes now. But these are just way too out of my reach. =(

  • Dang these are expensive.... I'll pass.

  • These brushes are ridiculously expensive. You're better off getting Mac brushes they're cheaper

  • @ipodgirl650 but mac brushes are not particularly amazing

  • @ipodgirl650 in australia mac brushes are a minimum of $50, ill stick to hakuhodo seeing as their somewhat cheaper.

  • They are expensive...might as well get Mac brushes.

  • they don't have pencil brush, right?

  • Ermm...animal hair? Nuh-uh that's just creepy knowing I'm brushing my face with a squirrel's backside. Nice video though (Y)

  • omg, i did not expect them to be THAT EXPENSIVE.

good for you that you can afforrd them, but i deffientaly cant,!!!<3

thanks for the vid though love you!! xxxxxx

  • there must be a lot of naked animals in Japan! LOL JK! they do like very high end

  • hi do you know how they compare to Suqqu brushes also Japanese...anybody?

  • Proud to be japanese

  • hi ilike u so much

  • i just looked at my trish mcevoy limited edition brush set i got 2 yrs ago and the brushes are exactly the same as hakuhodos kokutan series brushes, exactly the same soft brush heads and handles and i remember paying $175 for 6 brushes. I bet Hakuhodo made the brushes for trish cause they were a limited edition

  • Hi ! I live in Switzerland and I'd like to know if I can buy these brushes on hakuhodousa ? Do they ship here in Switzerland ? I don't think so, so how did you do ? Thanks in advance bye.

  • @TealLee Yep, according to their website they ship internationally. :)

  • I finally broke down and purchased some of these brushes, i got a few of each and i must admit they are truly amazing quality brushes but i do own over 100 brushes and i have seen this same quality with Trish McEvoys brushes and also with Shu Uemura brushes as well. Those are also very expensive brushes. As for me i think in the future i will only be purchasing Hakuhodo brushes.

  • @MissChievous Do the brushes come with a special DVD on how to keep them clean? I was thinking of investing in the 17 piece set.

  • Brush collection plssss =)

  • i luv ur brushes. lucky you.

  • How can they obtain the hair from squirrels when they are ridiculously fast?!..........

  • @KEYNAthinksPINK19 cuz obviously nobody can catch squirrels right? lol :D

  • They look awesome ,I expected that as Japenese have -only- the finest handicrafted anything in the world ...But their Prices ooohhh Mac is already too expensive ...These are horribly expensive .....

  • In this video you mention that "long-Handled" brushes are available. Do we have to request that when we order or what? I must have the long handles. Those short handles, for me, are a deal breaker. Thanks again so much!!

  • This is the BEST brush video I have EVER seen! I am subscribing to your channel because of this video. It is so informative and very in depth. I have just begun to get into collecting brushes . I received the premium Sigma brush kit as a gift. I am now moving onto these brushes. They look like they are extremely well constructed. They are just gorgeous!! Thank-You soooo much for reviewing these beautiful brushes!!! =)

  • Great review

  • Would you please do a vid on how you do your manicure? Your nails are perfectly scuplted/shaped and love your hands.

  • omg a brush set 1000 !!! o.O

  • how is Hakuhodo compare to sigma brush? thanks

  • @0oXfenxiXo0 They are far superior in quality to be frank. But they have a higher price tag.

  • @MissChievous Thank you so much. I really wish i have the money to get those brushes. hehe maybe for the future

  • Holly cow!! I don't care how good they are, there too expensive to buy or be use.

  • Dude those brushes are waaay to expensive! One of them is around 80 dollars!

  • They look beautiful, but I seriously question the company's claim that no animals are harmed or killed to make them. Do they sit them down in a salon chair & give them a nice close shave & then send them on their way with a nice goat or squirrel snack?? I'm not a fanatic & do own some hair brushes myself. I just call into question the ethics of this company and their bs sounding claims. Really? Not ONE animal harmed?? Extremely unlikely......

  • on their website they recommend to wash the brushes only -2 times a month (O_O), otherwise , it could damage the hairs. It makes me disappointed. I wanted to buy BB ultra fine eye liner brush and I did notbecause I have read that one of their brushes was better but if it becomes bad with washing..I wash my brushes everytime I use them, specially eye liner brushes!

  • hi, do you think that the G535 eye brow brush could be used for eye liner? For people who aren't confortable with lining their eyes?

    Thanks.

  • NICE BRUSHES BUT TO DAM EXPENSIVE..LOL

  • Oooh. You got me hocked! One S142 on it's way to me as we speak. Can't wait! And to be honest, I also watched your Sigma video.. It's so true. We really have to learn how to know the good from the bad, and after going through my brushes, I've had to toss out a few that were not pulling their weight. You know you have these brushes that you pass by every time you're putting on make-up, but you don't know exactly why.. Poor quality, low hair count and density. Now I know! Thank you!

  • yep very expensive...

  • You're so very lucky to have gotten these brushes, they are THE best and also very expensive. I have good expensive brushes but I can't afford these, well not now. Maybe some day. I can pay my electric bill for my whole house for what just one of these brushes costs.

  • is the s142 brush a mac 226 comparable?

  • yep- very expensive your complete set is over 500.00

  • I'm just starting out as a makeup artist as a side job (college student/ fine arts major) and I was wondering is it best to have a different set of brushes for the clients than you do for yourself'? And if so what do you recommend?! On a college student budget lol I can't quite afford the hakuhodo brushes just yet (I'm saving though) however, I have been looking at a brush set by Sigma off Amazon and Pupa off and I would love your opinion! Thank you!!

  • do they kill animals?

  • JAPANESE MAKE GOOD SOOSHI TOO

  • COULD YOU please tell us which Hakuhodo brush is cheaper but the same thant the gold one?

Do you think the are softer and better thanthe shuuemura ones?

I wish they made pink handles !! ♥♥♥

    thanks.

  • omg they are expensive

  • i think after using this brand, you/ppl can throw away their bobby brown or mac brushes.

  • I'm ordering a set of the brushes now, because of your video. Is there a link I should use or something so that you get commission or credit? Please e-mail me if so. :) boogiedowndiva@aol.com

  • @boogiedowndiva aw thanks for asking, but no, they don't have affiliate links.

  • I have it.

    cheek&eye shadow brush!

Once you use this, it's so wonderful

than you can't use the others , I think.

  • hahha fuck that! lol

  • @anna63rubio i know

  • How long does it take to process the order. I have placed my order around one week ago but the status still remain pending. I can't wait to get those brushes/

  • Hey Julia, If they're your favorite brushes,, why don't u use them in your videos?? Or you've changed your mind 'cause this video is old??lol

  • @NaomiIsSoAwesome98 I use them all the time in my videos and in my personal life, I just don't always mention the brand of each brush I use.

  • Of course these brushes are expensive - they're TOP quality. Like, seriously high quality. They wouldn't be selling them cheaply. Duh.

    Well worth the money

  • glad i saw this vid been wondering how you said there name!!!! been wanting to get a set of these!!!!!

  • Saw these brushes at the NYC Makeup Show. The best of the bestl! The 138 is my fav. They originallly made MAC brushes years ago. Only prob. for me is that I have all the brushes I need & buying the ones of these I love would really only be a duplication of what I have, & I can't justify that expense. If I had to do it again, I'd only buy these. Forget MAC as their brushes have gone downhill due to the horrid irregular machine cutting of the brush heads & reduction in hair density.

  • i wanna shave the squirel hehehe

  • 111$ for a brush? lol not sure if i would get it, i love mac brushes and collect those and they are expensive enough ;) but the hakuhodo ones look amazing :)

  • Hi, could you please do a tutorial on the makeup you are wearing? Thanks!

  • Long handle - using at home

Short handle- using out of home, for travel

Hakuhodo brushes set are presented to Mrs.Bush,When president Bush came to Japan.By prime minister Koizhmi.

  • i heard that natural hair brushes can absorb a lot of the product lets say if you was to use it for foundation so you waste a lot of your product trying to get it on your skin..

  • they look super soft.

  • The brushes look great but way too expensive what nail polish are you wearing its very nice

  • damn those brushes r really expensive...the first brush i saw was $72 dollars! so not worth it even if it is amazing

  • Can she give us the site to check the hakuhodo brushes?

  • Which series do you think is the best out of all the ones you have?

  • On the website, they have a few choices for sets. Prices aside, which set would you recommend to a beginner looking to advance and start a good quality collection? And do you know of any other set that may be comparable? Thanks for your help!

  • ive recently ordered 4 brushes from. hakuhodo Al of them are the S series, because i think they're just beautiful and i think its totally cute with the creators wife's name on the bottom. i am from ENGLAND so it costed around 152pounds, totally worth it but expensive :D P.s i actually ordered these brushes as soon as i seen your video ahha

  • Awesome tutorial. I was recently in Japan to see my boyfriend who is stationed their with the Marine Corps. I definitely going to look around in the cosmetic stores when I go back for Christmas. Thanks!

  • Im very tempted to buy some of these brushes, but I also have to consider that shipping from the outside of the EU means another 25% in toll once they arrive - yikes.

  • i typed in "affordable make up brushes" and this came out! haha.. i think i rather stick with mac..i mean why waste more than 100 on one brush when you can get the same results with a brush like mac and sigma and such.. =]

  • Some of them are cheaper than MAC, and do they shed in general or when you wash them?

  • whenever I think of japan I think of sushi :) but I can't wait to try these brushes! New makeup brushes always gets me excited I don't know why haha

  • are they better than MAC?

  • @sdhim1 duh

  • May work good but very expensive HA!

  • what nails polish is that ur wearing>?

  • Super Expensive...

  • I LIKE THEM BUT THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE!!! 111 DOLLARS FOR ONE BRUSH... BUT IM STILL GOING TO BUY A SET LOL

  • @bbypl0xin They don't kill animals to makes brushes...they harvest them.

  • have you tried brushes from sigma? im wondering how the quality is

  • hakuho means a white pheasant.

and a pheasant is Japanese national bird.

  • Just ordered 3 brushes yesterday. I wasn't sure about getting them because I'm the kind of person who likes to touch brushes before. But I need some Hakuhodo in my life haha. And I'm sure I'm going to rave about them as much as you do.

I live in France, and the price for good quality brushes is expensive anyway so I'm sure it's worth it.

  • i went on the website they are extremely expensive you think mac is costly? wait until u see the price for these brushes..

  • which set would u reccomend me purchasing?

  • is funny how some people think just because they are a makeup brush company they need to give makeup artist a pro card discount. It makes these brushes that much more of a wanted commodity when the product is not saturated the industry. I am glad they never go on sale and they don't sell them in sets. You don't see Chanel going on sale or selling brush kits.

  • sorry meant one thousand dollares

  • I am a pro makeup artist, they might be fab but they are soo expensive.. they need to come out with brush set for makeup artist.... like a pro card or something found some amazing master brushes just here down the street in california.... who has a one dollares to spend on make-up brushes???

  • Visited the store in Tokyo, and the shop staff were very kind explaining/testing the brushes. I don't think Asian people prefer short-handled brushes, but rather the short brushes you have are from the portable lines.

What I personally found interesting is that they would have a completely same sized brush in different animal hairs that apply makeup very differently. I bought shadow brushes made of weasel hairs, and they are soft to the skin but precise, resilient and distributes colors well.

  • i gotta say this.. your hand looks so nice. looks so soft =)

  • Yummyyyy I definitely want to invest in these brushes :) I'm bored with my MAC and Dior brushes... These Hakuhodo brushes made me droooool

  • what do you think about Coastal Scents ?

  • I wash i the biggest Hakuhodo store in Japan lately! Omg, they are amazing. And the store is so nice, there is like no people almost, cause they dont really advertize... Anyway, the people in the shop was sweet and they had limitid brushes - in a beautiful light blue! And there was pink and teal to. So cool.

  • I am trying to find other videos review on these brushes and no one has done any. Thanks for your review. I am getting some, wish I could see more videos!

  • Wow, thanks for sharing this product. I'm checking out the brushes now and they look amazing. I have a feeling I will be adding these brushes to my list of "things to get for my birthday."

  • Wow! They look so perfect and defined. No sharp ends or anything that might poke your face. Didn't purchase them yet, but will very soon!:D I believe that they're high quality handmade brushes, just a bit pricy but must worth the money. I believe good things about the brushes, they do look defined and well done!;D

  • ccc

  • HOW MUCH?

  • Here’s a set of makeup brushes that I bought & I love them, so I recommend you to get those to, this is the website I got them from: amway. com/VerasDomain & at the top of the page you’ll see the search box & this is the item number for the set of brushes: 70-0154

  • hi, im japanese.

acctully, Hakuhoudo makes the brushes for Mac, Estee Lauder, Shiseido..etc.

but orginal brushes they sell as Hakuhodo brand are much better quolity.they are also expensive here even in japan.

    sorry for my eng.

  • lol you can't stop touching/petting the bristles of the brush

  • you can also have carve ur name in gold silver brown or red for an additional payment!!!! how cool is that!!!! only here in japan though... cant wait for my brushes!! :D

  • @pinkywinky911 I have family in Japan (Okinawa) who visit Tokyo on occasion. They will be coming to the UK in June. Any chance you can let me have details (send private message if you want to) of where to buy Hakuhodo and what sort of price range I'm looking at for the sets? Thanks everso.

  • i live in japan and im ordering some brushes next week.. :D i have some other japanese brands of brushes and believe me they are the best.. the prices are whacky though! they are really comparable to MAC, or even better..

  • thanks ^_^

  • can you please tell the specific number of this soft blush brush you were speaking about?

  • @phosphoenolpyruvat The 'soft blush brush' was actually a powder brush K002.

They also have a blush brush K020 made of the same blue squirrel hair which i believe would be just as soft.

  • Hello! I want these brushes SO BAD. I placed my order in on March 27th, and I STILL haven't received mine (I live in Canada). I'm pretty sure it's lost in the mail. The people were really nice in trying to track the package, but there is nothing I or they can do. I'm SOOO bummed. I was really excited to try them out after seeing your review. Anyway, since it's lost, I can't get my money back, because that's out of their control.. So I guess I won't be trying them anytime soon... :(

  • @zyang87 Have you tried letting them know that it is probably illegal for them to not send you another set? If you haven't received your product and they've received your money, I'm pretty sure they're stealing from you. I hope you work this out, because that is not right.

  • i've checked the website and they really are pricey! i've also been looking around like wholesales online. do you recommend any other brand that could be affordable but also good quality?

  • guess their using a animal hair?!

  • guess their using a animal hair?!

  • girl thats expensive dang,,, i saw that brushes b4

  • WIll these bgrushes last a lifetime? Or how often do you have to replace them?

  • thank julia I will cheout this brushes in the internet . they looks goods.thanks for let me know.

  • i sooo want to order some of these companie's brushes...thank you for the review!!

  • awesome, just put in an order for 5 brushes, hope i love them! i'm starting a make-up artistry course but hey if that falls through i'll have 5 new pet brushes ;)

  • is there any way to get free shipping from the site? i can't imagine splurging on these brushes and then have to pay an extra 10 dollars for shipping

  • how can i buy this brushes?

  • Great video! I know that u said that these brushes r ultra soft but what about makeup application? Is the makeup application better with these brushes that with your Mac brushes? Please respond because I am thinking about buying a few of these brushes. Your videos are so informative and great to watch. Keep them coming!!!!!!

  • the basic ones are actually not that expensive, especially if you buy the set. i mean come on individual MAC brushes are about the same price!

  • I think "cruelty free" for brushes means they comb out the hair so the animal isn't hurt or killed in the process... i read an article about it online a while back.

  • Comment removed

  • all you have to do is shave it and then let it go back into wild to be free to climb all the trees... but just naked.! lol.!

  • but smaller handles mean that people who need glasses can get closer to the mirror.

  • i bought 5 of them...but still waiting for my order!! =D can't wait to get them!

  • SO MANY different types, I don't know which to choose to buy!!

  • I've received my order yesterday - 7 brushes - and I totally agree with you about the awesome quality of the Hakuhodo products! I don't think they're that expensive: in Europe, many high end brushes range about the same prices and are definitely not that good! I'm totally in love and addicted! Thank you so much for reviewing them! =D

  • @chtitmog glad you like them!

  • @chtitmog 100 dollars for a brush?no thanks,i d rather,go and buy a Levi's jean.

  • @katsouela LOL! To each their own I guess! Jeans don't last more than 4 years with me, but brushes will last me 15 or 20 years and I do my makeup everyday. (and not all their brushes retail at this price - you should take a look at the Basic series which is really affordable and of excellent quality too!)

  • @chtitmog my mum has the same levis jean for 17 years,i do have one for 3 years, and well yea jeans last longer!and i don't know 20 dollars (16 euros) for a basic smudge brush seems like a lot to me.

  • I made an order for some brushes yesterday, just can't wait to pum hands on my brushes ^^

  • Yes, the S100 are high and I would consider them a luxury item but a lot of the others were the same or less than some of my MAC brushes. I think it's all relative. I've been looking at these for quite some time and I think I'd like to purchase a few of the types I use mostly. They'll be at IMATS in June and hopefully I'll be able to go and see them in person.

  • very expensive.....

  • Ich hab da mal eine ganz doofe Frage: Was ist der Unterschied zwischen Make-up-Pinseln und den Pinseln, die man im Kunstunterricht benutzt. Jedenfalls bei den Kleinen. ..

  • These brushes r expensive

  • Hakuhodo actually makes the brushes for Mac. They are better than Mac. But knowing the prices, come on folks.. ok, they are great, but do a complete make over with eigher Mac, Sigma, or Hakuhodo, you wont see a difference... Just a luxury thing to have. and Sigma has amazing quality brushes that do the job. Dont see myself using something made out of sqhirl hair for example, not necessary to use that type of hair, there are other animal hair, that does the job also

  • I totaly agree ^^

  • How do they get the squirrel hair? Do they shave them without killing them?? I understand that goats, sheep, and alpacas are sheared, but I've never heard of squirrel shearing. WEIRD. If anyone has any info on squirrel shearing, please forward it to me. Thanks!

  • I would assume so. MissChievous does say in the video that all the natural hair brushes are cruelty-free.

  • to use animals for their hair means that the animals are caged!like.. NOT free ...like...unhappy ...so this IS animal cruelty even if they dont kill them

  • @elizabeth1222 there's bald squirrels running all over japan

  • Comment removed

  • @Saroarr LOL :)

  • @elizabeth1222 some squirrels are different and have different hair lengths, maybe it can be from the tail

  • @elizabeth1222 It's probably from the squirrels' tails....

  • Too pricy for me. But this means theyre good quality.

  • I have a couple of their brushes

Mac can't compare with these brushes, it is a totally different type of brush !!

  • Holy Shit these are expensive!

  • These brushes are a bit expensive; i hope they are worth their price.

  • although these brushes seem awesome

they're way out of my price range lol

  • this brush is like the mac daddy! lol

  • I think you are sooo cool and Im glad u took the time out to showcase these great brushes..kudos to you :) definitely will be getting during the holidays YAY me!
