Using the Micro Imager on Spirit, try the pics underside again using AM/PM low sun angles for extreme shadows and max light for comparison. The rocks on the underside then get mapped more accurately 3Dimensionally with much less guesswork.
How about using the drill to loosen some soil next to one of the wheels on the left or right hand side, creating a fluffy mound which the wheel can turn on. Maybe this would compress the soil enough to give the rover some extra purchase. Like chucks under the wheels of an aircraft.
Answer from Mars Exploration Rover project scientist, John Callas:
"No. First of all, the rovers cannot be switched off. If Spirit is immobile at her current location, she can operate as a fixed lander and conduct significant lander science for a year or more, collecting contact science with the robotic arm, perform atmospheric measurements and weather observations, and search for Mars quakes, among many other science activities."
the rover easily outlasted any expectations they had. amazing really

What happens if you can't get her out? Will you just switch off your monitors and forget about her?

They don't have any off switch bottons....As long as the Sun is hitting its Solar Panels,it will last :)

Well I mean is, will they give up on trying to get it out of the rut when it seems they can't do it. Giving upon the rover.

I don't think they will give it up.
