  • I am a huge pen and teller fan! and! I agree with you you see that episode pen requested to do personally cause he believed in it he wanted to do a show about somthing he believes in.

  • We should've stayed with Apollo. We had a tried and trusted design to get us to the moon and back, and even had plans to expand upon it including missions to Mars as early as the 1980s. Not to mention expendable rockets were cheaper and more capable in the long run (as the Russians have proved with the Soyuz). The shuttle was picked not just for "cheaper" means of space travel, but also as a means of military capabilities.

  • ...then again..it's not like I could tell you that if I didn't have a computer, your mind is closed.

  • Technological society should grind to a halt, if you look into everything further enough I think you'll see (well..I haven't but I have a feeling) that many of the Earth's BIGGEST problems came from those very 'technological' "advances" ..it's best that they're gone.

  • ....why would you want to send your body into space on a space ship when you can astral travel and meditate and go there anyway....? If you didn't trouble your mind with all of this you could quiet it down..I think you've got a brilliant mind under there...<3

  • aikiboy. Your sort of like a Jeff Goldblum. It's my most sincere complement. Brilliant. Keep up the good work!

  • I can't find the nasa episode on you tube and I don't have showtime, but it seems I would dissagree with them too. Our population is really going to jump by 2050, so we will have to start thinking about agriculture, subteranean cities, and space.

  • I agree that it is essential that the human race colonize the rest of the solar system and even move out to other stars but I do not believe the human race has a future in space colonization for one reason. It is outside of our Monkeysphere, just like using up all the planet's resources and trashing everything is because we do not care for people outside of our Monkeysphere (this includes our own descendants) but also don't care enough to find more resources and protect ourselves from disaster.

  • wow Bsc!!!

  • you should never introduce yourself for 11 seconds. Your name works just as well and makes you seem like less of a douche.

I could say "Kent here, DJ, Vlogger, Film Critic, IT Major, Master of fucking hot chicks under the age of 21 but over 18, and general all around nice guy" and still come off as less of a douche than you.

  • I would like to see this artical on NASA's railgun becuse last i looked. NASA has been funding RailGun research for hypervelocity impact simulations. Problems found in said simulations, aswell as with the NAVY railgun test's are atomspheric resistance has a tendancy to disintegrate projectile.

  • Firstly, as a few others have said, write out a script first, otherwise you end up with ermm ahh ohhh and so on. Don't bother trying to film it all at once, film clips of every few lines then edit it together after.

As for your actual arguments... P+T's main points are that NASA tends not to learn from mistakes. By that we don't mean individual mistakes being noticed, but their overall management structure remains the same with no accountability. Mistakes ARE made, but they just use PR to fix

  • The trouble is that this doesn't work; it just "covers up" mistakes instead of preventing some nasty disasters. Basically, the problem is that if an engineer notices a problem and points it out by complaining or going to the press, he can get fired.

Their second point is that, if the US taxpayer is stupid enough not to want to fund NASA, then fine. There are plenty of private investors who'll be willing to pick up the tab. That'll mean space travel ends up being privately owned, though.

  • Meanwhile, many other state-funded and privately funded space agencies are more than willing to charge millions for space tourism already, leaving NASA behind. Man will have a future in space, but not until those with all the money reckon they can make profit from it.

  • Actually, in relation to the Nasa administration, that is partly true. The issue is that as Penn and Teller stated, Nasa is impecable when it comes to scientific research. The issue is that the administration of Nasa at large are not scientists or those with technical expertise, but appointees by the US congress. The key problem with this is that, like the people who elect congress, the administrators tend not to be scientifically minded. Now my real concern is not the tourism industry, but

  • (cont) space industry outside of tourism. As I've mentioned (and referenced) on the space colonization vids, there is a necessity in the next while for moving industry and living more heavily into space, and they key problem is that unfortunately, this is very underfunded. One key concern, however, is that as you stated, man will have a future when those with money reckon they can make a profit from it (and not a long term profit but immediate return on investment.) That's why the basic

  • (cont) infrastructure, such as more efficient forms of propulsion to low earth orbit and interplanetary flight such as rail guns and plasma ion drives, need to be built and maintained by the government or some non-profit group. This way, there is actually infrastructure for private industry to develop new inventions and forms of space industry off of so that profit can actually be made. The problem is that business, for the most part, is somewhat short sighted. It has to be in order to stay

  • (cont) in the black and afloat. And investing in infrastructure is a high risk endeavor. So if government treats space launching systems in the same way they treat roads, then private industry can take over and build better systems based on infrastructure already provided in the public sector.

  • Good video, good points, besides the umm... Next time pro tip: it might feel un-natural but try reading from a script, write it like a theater script , use the open source program Celtx. Practice, then read, you'll be a lot better. I have a question, at a 90% recycling rate at what range of dates would for a population of 9-10 billion people using U.S. rates of consumption, given eventual transition away from fossil fuels meet up with a Malthusian situation or crisis of the commons?

  • I think the human race does, have a future in space & I'm with you on this subject!

  • Poor guy.

  • Don't feel sorry for him, feel sorry for yourself.

  • Uh, uhhh, um. You're, uh, a uhmm, a virgin!

  • you remind me of my cousin josh. Interesting points you brought up but I still enjoy penn and teller. You should apply to work on the show.

  • i feel, uhm, like you, uhm, dont have, uhm, a, uhm, real list, uhm, of credentials, um, and uhm, you need to um, need to learn, um, penn and teller are fucking, a, ah, um, professionals and your just a fuck-tard on the internet

  • this is the worst thing I've ever seen on youtube.

  • presenting Mr. "uhhmmm.."

  • I cant help laughing my ass off at your little introduction with all your "qualifications" at the beginning. A student? You mean you have no credentials at all? And a math minor? What a joke. No real scientist/engineer/mathematician would be impressed with that, even if the retards of youtube ooh and ahh over it. I hope it makes you feel better that you are an undergrad like the other millions of people in America. Maybe you should add "Director, Producer, Writer: Aikiboy bullshit responses"

  • I cant even remember how many socially inept freaks like you I had to deal with during my undergrad years. All alike, you throw your hands up in the air "I cant help it! I have 'Aspergers', it's because i'm too smart to be anything more than an outcast". Yeah, keep telling yourself that.

  • Excuse me, but I have Asperger's, and I'm NOT in college, and I resent that.

  • move heavy industry into space? wtf surely the over heads would make this not worthwhile

  • Considering how the environmental movement wants us to live primitively instead of industrially, we may not have a point, since they are gaining ground with the governments of the world.

  • Let's just say that he studied his ass off, which is more that we can say for most young people...

  • I think they were talking about not learning in terms of bureaucratically, not engineering. And the Apollo 1 disaster was human error that could have been prevented if somebody would have put thier hand up and said.. "Why are we using pure oxygen, a little dangerous don't you think?"

  • Oh, and propulsion (i think its spelled).

If you really have all of those fancy degrees, you should realize that a rocket gives a much more suddle propulsion because it accelerates all the way untill it hits the end of the atmosphere while as a RAILGUN (you must understand this sounds extremely idiotic) would mean going from not moving, to being a spot on a wall, in a very short time.

  • You're an ass Charles. The guy is just trying to present the alternative argument with some..what's the word..evidence.That's right. you can support your arguments using more than D-list experts, which is what the two celebrities?magicians?entertainers? do.Whatever P&T are, they are washed up and getting paid to barf up bull shit to keep everybody ignorant.God forbid someone asks you to think, research, & question.keep it up aikiboy11111 we need brains like you to save the cows from their selves.

  • You are... uuh... THE... uuuh.. MOST... ANNOYING... person i have ever encountered. Railguns arent impossible to build, they have already been built in fact (depending on how you define the word "railgun"). Ofcourse you can polute a non-environment.

    Tips:

CALM THE FUCK DOWN, speaking that rapidly not only makes us confused, your Um:ing hurts my ears.

STOP TRYING TO BE A KNOWITALL, its only annoying, and the introduction makes me think you owe me 2 minutes of my life back.

  • lol railguns. What does railguns have to do with anything? Also, IEEE is pronounced "I triple E".

Yea I know, sorry for pointing out useless crap like an asshole.

  • What are you aiming for exactly Harry? You are a smart human being why don't you get a job doing research for the show to make it better instead of pointing out all the mistakes they make? also..magician? How uhm about uhm uhm making those uhm uhms disappear from your uhm ah video uhm?

  • Firstly, in terms of research, read the links I posted in the summary and the references they provide. Secondly, I have Asperger's Syndrome, and as my mouth is trying to keep up with my brain, I will stutter every now and again.

  • Don't mind these motherfrackkers, they just can't understand anything that isn't reality TV, rock & roll, junkfood, and summer movies.

  • What do you understand? Something cultural like masturbating to hentai? Try not to be so smug, aspy, and dont blame everyone else because youre a social (and probably academic) loser.

  • I don't masturbate to hentai porn, and at least I'm not a griefer like you trying to fuck a guy with an intellectual disability making a point of general interest to all. Why don't you go back to school or crack a book instead of hanging out on YouTube being an asshole?

  • @typeconfusion I am pretty sure he is trying to make it better by trying to convince the tax payers that we need to start investing in interplanetary colonization, because the general populace who are tax payers that fund these projects need to be convinced because if the tax payers are not behind it then it will not work.. I think his attempts are ineffective however, but at least he is trying.

  • I still think NASA is a big waste of money. P&T only reinforce my opinion.

  • Your a smart guy and you make some good points but you really need to work on your speaking skills because it's hard to follow you somtimes when ever 3rd or 4th word is um. Other then that keep up the vids!

P.S. Not tying to be mean just giving you some advice that you probably already heard.

  • Thanks for the criticism. I'll work on that.

  • Try to go a bit slower: You have all the time for you video, you look like if you are in urgency...

  • @aikiboy1111111 ...I think it's cute *shrugs*

  • apple computers

  • jesus... die in a fire. Please.

  • Why bother with flining slugs with railguns when there is already a potentially better alternative available? I am speaking of NPR.

A model was constructed prior to the engineering study being canceled that showed that pulse-detonation rockets with conventional explosives could work without damaging the craft. When you consider that we could have put a man on Mars by the 1980's it pisses me off to think that the project wasn't just axed but we're now destroying our nukes instead of using them.

  • You're right, the Orion space craft design would have worked just as well. Btw, speaking of nukes, pm me please. There is something pertaining to this I'd rather talk about in pm.

  • Bravo.

I don't really take P&T too seriously, they're good entertainment. Their intentions are good but they are not scientists at all and despite what they say they do seem to pretend they are every once in a while.

Did you review their climate change episode? I was surprised they failed to mention the position of the Joint Science Academies.

And what did you think about that episode what's your opinion?

  • Check out my video "Penn and Teller screw up bigtime." They actually did a blunder with climate change, and on top of it, failed to make a correction when the data was fully in. (They also blundered the ESP episode in a couple of areas by not going into enough detail, but that's a side note.) Anyway, I call Penn and Teller on it as they screw up. I'd like to keep any accidents they cause by going off half cocked to a minimum.

  • Are you talking about the first season Environmental Hysteria episode? The guy from CATO seemed to agree that climate change is happening but said that it appeared mild and managable. They still brought up good points about how the environmental movement continues using the same guilt-tripping and shock tactics it did 30 year ago rather than a cost-benefit analysis of potential solutions. Also, some proposed solutions or adaptations don't seem that good and some good ones have been discouraged.

  • They failed to mention the position of very important scientific groups. Specially the Joint Science Academies since it gathers the presidents of science academies of every developped country in the world.

Mild and moderate enough to not take action? Who are you going to believe, a guy from CATO or the scientists from all over the world? Their opinion is that CC is anthropogenic and that it is due to human activities and that measures must be taken.

  • If you read the summary from my criticism of that episode (You can find it in my Penn and Teller playlist) One of the sites I quote lists a great number of peer-reviewed sources debunking the stuff the CATO guy said.
