MTX sucks cock. They try and make there subwoofers abnormally huge to produce more bass and louder sound. Dont get me wrong that does work but the quality is shit and the subwoofers are very over rated. A true subwoofer would pretty much be anything other than mtx. I prefer JL Audio but Kickers are nice depending on what kind of subwoofer. Fi Btl are ok and XXX's are pretty crazy. idk why pple bash on mtx..I had a kicker L7 and switched to mtx 7500's..only 7500's (they were in sledgehammer box) and it sounded better than the kicker and hit pretty hard. i personally still love kicker but for me mtx is better quality..clean bass...kicker's just louder...my 2 cents...
try playing lil scrappy no problem. I have 1 MTX 9512-44 in a 1.76 ft^3 ported enclosure tuned to 35hz and it hits the lows perfectly. My hatch moves up and down a good 3/8"-1/2"
in my old car i had 2 batteries one was dry cell and stock alternater,,,,i would advise you to upgrade your alternater to 200 amp run one big battery dry cell and see how you go with that,if it still sucks alot of power then stick another battery in,hope this helps

A sealed box is actually better for SQ. It makes the bass quicker and sharper; what real sub-bass should be for "real" (anything that's not rap) music (not that rap is bad).
But if you want big-ass noise, then a ported box is for you. I have a JL Audio 12W3v3 in one, and it hits hard for a 300-watt sub.
But now, I wish I got a sealed box because of most of the music I listen to is "real", and because the W3, like all JL's subs, is made for SQ first and formost (no offense, MTX fans).
A properly built bass reflex or even bandpass will sound much more "real" than a sealed alingment. If you want "real" go for a Transmission line. People tend to run into less acoustical anomaly's by going sealed.(ie. port compression, organ effect) It does not make it in any way a fact sealed sounds better. Sealed is just an easy way to avoid acoustical problems. Even though, I would suggest a 12db per octave rolloff @ 45hz a "problem". Large enclosures + LARGE Passive radiators FTMFW!
Just research enclosure fabrication on the net, and build you own. Its quite easy. Chances are, with just the basics, you could build an enclosure that crushes the sledgehammer.

Sledgehammer is the name of the box that MTX makes, not the subwoofers. There is not Sledgehammer subwoofer. And the Golf is still referred to as a Golf in the USA, and there is also the Rabbit. 2 different cars.

A properly built bass reflex or even bandpass will sound much more "real" than a sealed alingment. If you want "real" go for a Transmission line. People tend to run into less acoustical anomaly's by going sealed.(ie. port compression, organ effect) It does not make it in any way a fact sealed sounds better. Sealed is just an easy way to avoid acoustical problems. Even though, I would suggest a 12db per octave rolloff @ 45hz a "problem". Large enclosures + LARGE Passive radiators FTMFW!

Just research enclosure fabrication on the net, and build you own. Its quite easy. Chances are, with just the basics, you could build an enclosure that crushes the sledgehammer.

wat rms u gettin out of them? i got 4 pioneer premier subs and they kik out 4,000watt rms and 12,000 peak. might jus get some mtx's like yours if you know a place in yorkshire jus name it please good system btw respect

i was short of space in the trunk so i got the box made to exact mtx spec for a sealed box net internal volume is 2.00ft3 each side.not sure if i should put just one sub in my new ride with original sledgehammer enclosure.

size is 15inches and yes i am using one mono block amp not sure of the peak power of the amp but i think its around 6000watt you sholud pay more attention to rms watts the subs are 1000watts each rms and the amp is 2000watts rms

Sledgehammer is the name of the box that MTX makes, not the subwoofers. There is not Sledgehammer subwoofer. And the Golf is still referred to as a Golf in the USA, and there is also the Rabbit. 2 different cars.
