Is it me or is cole phelps probably the worst protagonist ever created by R*? I mean he's a passable leader and probably the most book-smart character created by R*, but he could be a real asshole/suck-up at times. Not to mention that he cheats on his wife when he has TWO kids! The only other R* characters that I can think of that come somewhat close to cheating on a partner would be cj or niko only because you, as the player, could cheat on their girlfriends. And even then, that isn't cannon.

Personally I don't believe it was Cole's fualt about the civilians Ira should have stopped with the rest of the fireteam instead of running ahead alone he was too eager for his own good because if Ira had stopped Cole would have taken it slow that's why he was behind because he wanted to avoid civilian deaths and be certain there were none in the way.

Thats why I think is was not Cole's fualt does anyone agree with me?

These flashbacks shows the best and worst of Jack and Cole respectively. Jack is a brave and honorable man who doesn't back from a fight and Cole was an arrogant, glory seeking opportunist. Cole would later change his whole perspective completely after these events and becomes the humble person that he was to the end.

another thing i hated about this was that they made Phelps look completely incompetent as a Marine. To survive he had to be a good fighter, a so-so leader etc. And what about the Shadow thing? what was that all about? Also, they should've emphasized that the reason Cole became a cop was because he wanted to redeem himself for what happened in the Caves. His hubris and arrogance got innocent people killed. ANd Phelps, from that day forward, was going to try to make it right, to fix things.

From the moment Phelps fucked Elsa onwards, I lost almost all of my respect for him. He went from being a respectable Liuetenant turned LAPD crime fighter to a cheating-know-it-all-wank. When you play as Kelso in the final mission instead of Phelps it kind of takes away that sense of the "hero saving the day" which is probably why most people didn't feel sad when Cole drowned. John Marstons death however saddened people for a reason.
