"Tabula Rasa" is NOT accepted in modern psychology. We know that we are born with a TON of software in the brain. Why is Mike Shermer wasting his time with this sort of gross ignorance.
@ScholarlyGentleman81 Shermer is correct. As my comment states, we are born with a ton of software in the brain. "Tabula Rasa" is a proposition that a person is born as a "blank slate," i.e. no software, only hardware. This is what Shermer's opponent claimed. Shermer's opponents here seem to be wrought with ignorance. What are you talking about?
@chuckinator0 I don't necessarily agree with the analogy of software and hardware.. but I guess it's as close as it gets.. I don't like this analogy because comparing ourselves with machines leaves room for ID proponents... which I can't stand. Akin to calling DNA "information".. another analogy I can't stand.
Overall, we agree with each other though. I tried to read back, as far as what we have commented back and forth, but I couldn't really see a disagreement.
@ScholarlyGentleman81 You're right. I probably shouldn't use that analogy when commenting on a video with several ID proponents like Kent Hovind. I don't want to give a bad impression. For the record, I think that Kent Hovind is a dishonest fraud; please do not think I like him.
No he offered money (money gotten from fraud as it happens) to anyone who could prove HIS version of evolution (dogs giving birth no non dogs for example). However that can not be done as no one believes in the evolution he describes.
@TSURTIDOGNI Yes, Kent (in prison) offers 250k to anyone who can prove HIS INCORRECT DEFINITION of evolution... I have tried to collect.. All he has to do is say that what is presented is not accepted. Which he does... every time. Evolution is not only proven, it is applied. This argument is similar to stating "prove fire" and when I show you how I cook with it, you say "that's not good enough"...
Kent wants an answer to the beginning of the universe... and many others.. as his proof.
I would not be suprised. Considering some of the slides Kent just !happened! to have ready it is clear a lot of the questions were planted in the audience for him.
I mean who just happenes to have a video slide of the grand canyon to hand. Its a little !too! convienient isnt it?
Thats what I mean. Its clear he plants questions a lot. Watch his debates. Audience questions almost always fit in exactly with pictures he just HAPPENENS to have. In one debate I just watched someone asked a question about an article in SA, and he just happened to have that article on a slide with that passage "blown up" specially and highlighted.
I was about to say he plants questions too -- I juts realized how does he already have powerpoint slide shows ready to help him explain his answers? That's a coincidence, I'm sure!
First of all, thanks for being one of the few people actually trying to debate (even though you're on the wrong side lol) and not just ranting. I don't think he's planting questions as much as after almost 20 years of going around, he's come across the same ones and prepared for them. Now there ARE people, and you'll see them in this video I think, that ask loaded questions.
Thats your opinion and I have mine. Neither of us have evidence to support it. I know which way I am leaning. He is not exactly known for his honesty is he? In prison as he is for fraud.
But maybe you are right, and he uses underhanded dishonest tactics only SOME of the time, huh?
For example as I said a year ago, in one debate someone asked a question about an article in SA, and he just happened to have that exact article on a slide with that exact passage "blown up" specially and highlighted to answer the question with. Seriously suspect.
@irishmauddib As I said A WEEK ago, people in the audience ask questions that they know the answers to just to get the answer- Who cares? Don't go off topic just because YOU DON'T LIKE the answer.
I do not know what your topic is, but my response was entirely on the topic of the point I am making. It is not for you to dictate to me what my point should be.
Anyway my point was nothing to do with what the audience want to hear. My point was solely that there is enough reason to suspect that Hovind plants questions.
There is no proof of this of course, but having the slides ready for just that question and in other debates having a blown up and specially highlighted passage from SA magazine that the audience just happened to ask about, is just a little too convenient.
And, Hovind is not exactly known for honesty either is he?

I like how Hovind is so obious that he is the one profitting from this.

Is that Eric Hovind (his son) at 0:31 seconds?
He looks really similar to him. Perhaps they planted him in the crowd haha

@irishmauddib Maybe those are the questions that come up a lot. Why is it wrong to be prepared?
Saxking2005 2 years ago
Theres a difference between being prepared for questions and planting questions that you are prepared for.
