Winchester’s PDX1 slug achieves: ◦adequate penetration against human attackers ◦reduced likelihood of over-penetration in confined areas such as the home ◦massive wounding for faster incapacitation of a violent attaker
This is why they are so good for home defense. Google PDX1 Slug, these slugs aren't solid,These are also segmented slugs, upon contact they break up into pieces, plus, their solid lead and lead is soft. not FMJ cont.
50caliberFistFK, first there is no "insane penetration" with soft lead shotgun slugs. Fact, they easily blow into pieces & regularly fail to penetrate car bodies & windshields that 9mm & 45 acp FMJ easily sail through. They are soft lead and fully hollow. Second, a miss with your 357 mag, 9mm, etc will penetrate just as many, if not more walls as this 12 gauge round, which also endangers bystanders. Third, shot pattern is not too small as the goal is NOT to spray the area with pellets (misses).
The whole idea of a self defense around is you don't want this kind of insane penetration power, to go through 3 walls and kill your kids in the next room, or your neighbors next door. Shot patter is too small... you want to lose the slug, and use lots of pellets in a wide area blast that will cause pain and damage all over his body and increase your chance of hitting him in a panic situation
Energy is the mass of the bullet times the velocity squared,M855 FMJ Penetrators are NOT AP, THIS particular slug was designed to PREVENT over penetration,The M855 penetrators (Green Tips) I shot in Iraq, would penetrate more,THESE Segmented slugs were designed to NOT overpenetrate,M855's were designed to penetrate,M855+26" barrel= over twice the slug velocity. This is the lightest rnd I thought would do it,it's all Speculation and opinion,no angry replies please
I bought some of this a couple weeks ago. Its expensive ($17 for 10 rounds I think) and kicks a lot. Cool idea though, and will def keep a couple loaded up at home after 6 rounds of buckshot. Gun and Ammo recommended it more as a "ranch defense" round. That makes sense to me.
Picked some of this up today and it works excellent with an improved cylinder choke. I got a 3" spread at 15 yards. The stopping power on this round has got to be unbelieveable and even gives you room for error with the buckshot if you miss after you get up in the middle of the night and miss the bad guy.

@sdguero28 Try finding them at Walmart. I just bought a pack of 12 rounds (12 ga., 2 3/4") for a little less than $13.
