I remember every second of this moment. But only because of this footage. Can remeber being pushed forward in the huge crowd and trying to move back again after Bruce's request. The song just speaks for itself, even if you weren't there, you can't argue, It's Amazing.
i was there fucking scary in that crowed 107k ppl. two kids got killed. earlier on after a video screen collapsed..year after was cancelled due to that..next one after they had a gap right up the middle..
great band,i was there that day.used to go see them all the time at vici hall in stoke.they dont do the small venues now.why do a 30 date tour when you can get the same amount of punters in a 8 date uk tour if your lucky.
Listening to this on youtube, as I did on my cd in the car on my drive home earlier tonight, I nearly forgot Maiden is a heavy metal band. I've been listening to this song and Maiden since my teenage years (very early 90's), and it still gets me every time. Its one of those few songs that has always been there for me when I needed it.
Apparently, others feel the same about this godsend of a band. Only genius could write such a moving piece.
This is why maiden fucking rocks they LOVE their fans they are amazing. These guys care for their fans not just the money they get from them. Up the Irons !!
this IS the best band in the entire universe.....just kneel and admmit it....they are the fucking best band in the world...they are heavy metal...maybe it sounds extravagant but it is the truth......UP THE IRONS FROM GREECE!!!!!!!WE BELIEVE IN YOU IRON MAIDEN......YOU ARE OUR RELIGION!!!!!!!!!!!
@CrushJehovah Damn right man! Seen them 4 times and working on an entire eddie sleeve. Iron Maiden is definitely the best band on earth! Up the Irons!
yes, I agree, this is not the IM most famous song, but it is their best song!!!!!! and it has 5 different incredible melodies that they integrate perfectly....
I was at the front for Helloween's set and had to get out coz the crush was fucking scary - I remember Axl telling the crowd to get the fuck back all through the GNR set. A fucking tragedy for the guys who died but an imense gig
wow...amazing! I was reminising, actually looking for any Monsters of rock (van halen tour) to match my ticket stubs! came across this (not exact concert) to match my iron maiden Wed. June 1st, 1988 8:00 pm in Seattle concert ticket stub. That was a crazy concert. I remember starting in general pop, high of course, I was getting so crushed I had to get out. The show was better from a seat!! if you know what I mean.
'the band apparently knew of the deaths - it must have been difficult for them to follow but it was a simple life saving request bruce made. I've been in a gig crush & its fucking scary'
They didn't know about it till they came off...which is what makes it worse. Bruce has said that they didn't know about it until afterwards :-/
yeah i was there too.....during the gnr set the screen feel down.I was 8 year old. Took photos with a couple, playing air guitar with a broom handle:P
It's great to see this again, thanks very much for posting. I was 16 years old and was left of centre so it's good to finally see the show on the screen! I'd forgotten the screen wasn't working my side, thanks for jogging my memory Bruce. I arrived right at the end of GnR because of heavy traffic. My first outdoor festival. Superb!
the band apparently knew of the deaths - it must have been difficult for them to follow but it was a simple life saving request bruce made. I've been in a gig crush & its fucking scary
Was 11 years old when i went to this gig , watched the whole maiden set from in front of the sound tower on my mates shoulders, best seat in the house. Only dodgy moment was in the g'n'r set when crowd surged, was in about the middle of the crowd at the time and done a bit of a sonic the hedgehog impression. can see how the 2 lads lost there life . R.I.P

well done graemecrackers!! this was the first gig I went to - 15 yrs old - moonchild built up and I lost my fucking mind .maiden were on form and played for ages. got this audio from radio one the week after. maiden need to release this class performance.
the crush here was serious - the video screen bruce mentions came down during guns n roses - two lads dead - many ribs crushed. valuable lesson learned here - outdoor gig = stay at the back...
Ooh, I haven't heard about it, sad, but it's not strange that it fell cause' guns n' roses were playing. I don't undestand why they were allowed to perform here. As I know helloween was oping this show, wasn't it?
helloween opened as the traditional targets for bottles of greaser piss. good humoured, though.
think this was guns n roses first uk gig and the crowd went bananas. the video screen to the left of the stage collapsed and there was a surge forwards and to the right. god, it hurt.
maiden were unaware of the injuries as I understand.
aha, that was tragic! By the way you very lucky, if really you were born in 1971, cause' basic of you teenage period you spent in the 80's, that's great and I always wished to have been born in that period. :p I was born on no prayer of dying period. ::)
I suppose. But that's the beauty of youtube! I found some footage of Uli Jon Roth when he was with the Scorpions in the mid 70's (check out "Sails of Charon") and I nearly cried!
The great thing about Maiden is they will always play thier classics live. Your teenage years would have been soundtracked by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Radiohead,PJ Harvey, maybe System of a Down, Queens of the Stoneage etc. I'd like to have been 19 when System came out with Mesmerise/Hypnotise...
Love this song.. Bruce's vocals sounds godly.. After all he's God..
