I am going to be installing the new AVH-P2400BT in my car and I have a single pole single throw relay already. With that relay work or does it have to be a double throw even though you aren't using pin 87a?

I have never seen this before, and was having an issue with my radio working properly, but wouldn't once I shut my car off and turned it back on...I was thinking about a switch, but that seemed kind of ghetto to me. And, a relay came to mind. Ran across this video researching it. I used it on a pioneer avh-p2300dvd, and it worked perfectly! Really cool part about it was that the relay had a mounting screw hole, and the radio had a place to mount it perfectly...really glad I found this video. I

I installed an app radio last night, and I found that the relay method only works if you plug in the iphone BEFORE you start the car. The reason being is because for some reason, the amp turn-on gets pulsed when you plug in the ipod. I have no idea why it wouldn't work, but that's what works.

This method doesn't work. The AppRadio requires a double application of the parking brake switch (like stated below). I am running firmware version 2.22 and I wired up a manual rocker switch and it works fine.

Doesn't work quite right. I'm thinking I'm going to have to go to a toggle switch and mount it to the dash. I haven't updated my appradio because I don't have a micro sd card, but even before the update, The relay will click, but when I go into apps and try to pull gps, it gives me the video while driving is unsafe screen, and won't display the gps video.

@wolfy317 Ah.doesn't work because the appradio requires the parking break to engage, disengage, and engage again. Toggle switch it is for me.

@ thesteve713 I just put the relay in exactly as shown and it doesnt work so I'm guessing it needs a different relay for the "apply, release, reapply" update. ANybody have any suggestions? Doug?

Thanks for taking the time to put this tutorial together!!! Not sure I did it right. If I am moving and I try to watch netflix I get the screen with the "3 options". If I start netflix before I start moving, then I am fine. Is that how it is supposed to work?

I wired the ground from the radio (not the car's wiring harness) to 86 and then I connected 86 to 87 with a separate wire. That's what I think the video is saying. If I got it wrong someone please help me out Joeldubey@gmail.com.

Not sure what Armofgold85 is talking about. I just got this radio, installed it, and wired the relay just like the video said. The DVD feature is working even with parking break off, just like the video explained. Also there is a button at the bottom of the unit that allows you to shut the screen off if it is too bright. I got my unit for $220, and the relay was $10.00. Thanks for the great tutorial!

This would not be a problem, if pioneer put a FUKn "OFF" button on the screen, that you could just cycle the radio on and off, but unfortunately, pioneer decided not to do that on this model, if your customers haven't complained about the bypass not working yet, expect them to return sometime in the near future, hope someone can come up with a different bypass

Hey Doug i hate to break it to you, but I've ran into problems with using a relay on the App Radio. For some reason, pioneer got smart and want you to double pulse the parking brake. Which doesn't work very well with a single relay. Using a relay works only if the screen that displays "please engage the parking brake" is displayed, just like your video showed. If that screen isn't displayed when you turn the radio on, it will not recognize the relay's ground pulse.

@jjlwis quick close your eys.. :) nothing wrong with crimp caps. twisting copper together and crimping it is a good thing. some people believe solder can add resistance to the connection. ive seen some high end shops twist and tape and secure it with a zip tie. which i think is crazy... but to each his own.
