Ha and i thought me and my brother were the only two that noticed tv muscle cars. Remember the Brady Bunch Barracuda? We wre always like "they should have given them the Hemi with pistol grip" Greg would have been ripping goodyears down the block!!
@badgerbuddy Pontiac was a sponcer of the show, so all the cars were pontiacs thought the series. For Betwitched, Chevy was their sponcer, so all the cars on Betwitched were Chevys.
All the pontiac models were better looking than there chevrolet cousins. In 1980 I was 19 and drove a red 68 HO 350 Firebird with a 4 speed and hood tach, discs and a wood grain steering wheel. One of the coolest cars I ever owned. 14.98 et on bias ply E78-15s bone stock.
Pontiac in the 60s and 70s made the best looking cars around. I had a 1976 Grand LeMans. Mom and dad helped me with my first car, we looked at the Cutlass,Skylark, and others. We walked in the Pontiac dealer and it was on the show room and I knew that was the one! White with firethorn red indside and same color landau Top. Pontiac's stood our!!!! wish I had kept it.
I love this show and was madly in love with Barbara Eden as Jeannie too who by the way is still gorgeous even today. I've also always been a Pontiac fan and a GTO lover so those 66 and 67 convertibles made me salivate. Incidentally these clips include Carl Ballantine and Bob Hastings, 2 great supporting characters in a lot of 60's shows including McHale's Navy where they played Gruber and Carpenter respectively. Long live Jeannie and long live the Pontiac GTO.
Tony Nelson drove the following cars: 65, 66, and 67 GTO conv's, 68 & 69 Bonne conv's, 69 Firebird conv. Roger Healey drove (interestingly): 65 Comet conv (1st season!), 67 Mustang(?), 68 & 69 Firebird conv's (this may have in fact been a GM show car or possibly "1970" prototype since the 70 1/2 birds were late to market!), and Dr. Bellows drove: 65 Grand Prix, 66 & 67 Bonnevilles, 68 Executive Safari, 69 Lemans Safari. Newest car ever shown was the Gold 70 Cadillac conv in the "Chili King".
That would make sense that the 66 was used to make a Monkeemobile, since the blue 66 GTO conv was replaced very early during 66-67 season by a blue 67 GTO conv (first seen in this video at 2:20 with the poverty hubcaps). So a 67 GTO was used in both the 66-67 and 67-68 seasons. The stock footage of the blue 66 GTO (pulling up to NASA) continued to be used up until 1969.
Great Pontiac clips, thanks! That one-way street location looks like it's Rodeo Drive area of Beverly Hills. I know the show was et in Florida, hence the cool Cocoa Beach police car.
My Three Sons also featured all Pontiacs! The Beverly Hillbillys had all Mopar Products, Bewitched had Chevys and yes Andy Griffin Show and the FBI had the Fords. All the carmakers seemed to showcase their convertibles and sometimes the windshields and rear view mirrors were removed for in the car shots. Also new shiney paint was sometimes coated with powder to dull out paint and avoid camera glare.
this reminds me of a great mad magazine satire-'the F.I.B.'because of a 'certain car company's featured autos-they had such brilliance as 'special guest agent LTD Thunderbird' and people were staying at the Lincoln hotel, NOT the Caddilac hotel
I just love this! I miss those days where cars got air time. In some episodes of the Partridge Family and Bewitched (Chevrolet sponsors) they would show some Pontiacs driving by and parked at the Nelson house.
I thought it strange at 21 seconds we see Tony driving a Bonneville convertible out of nowhere when hes had the yellow Firebird before and after this. Not very good film continuity. The yellow Firebird and this Bonneville are both from the 5th and final season.
vista, thanks for watching! I realize the clips are sometimes mixed from a timeline standpoint. Roger's Firebird used a custom 3-piece spoiler (Trans Am was 1-piece), and note the "400" emblem on the trunk lid, which did not come on the Trans Am, just the Firebird 400. Another clip shows the side Trans Am style air extractors mounted in front of the REAR wheel, and facing forward! We believe the car may have belonged to one of the cast or crew, as Pontiac didn't market anything like this.
Oh I dont think youve got anything mixed up timewise. Like I said I got the 5th season DVD and this 69 Bonneville at .24 sec comes up out of nowhere and its the only show of the 5th season he drives it. Otherwise hes in the Firebird. I meant the continuity was a flaw of the show. You did a great job on this stuff. Interesting about the green Firebird. I noticed the scoops in front of the rear wheels and knew that was unique. I wasnt keen enough to see the difference on the rear spoiler.
Thank you for the compliments. I was going to do a 3rd video of all the 1965-1966 Pontiacs on the show, but just haven't had the time. They showed Tony's 65 GTO quite a bit in that first season. Thanks again.
That car was actually built by George Barris. It was the exact same car Roger drove the season before that was Carousel Red (orange), at that time it was stock but FULLY loaded with every option available on the Firebird at the time. That exact car is now up for sale on Hemmings, also listed is teh details of the cars history.
Ive got all five seasons of the show on DVD. Just picked up the final season last week. Tony drove a yellow 69 Firebird convertible with white interior the last season. Roger drove an interesting car. It was a 69 Firebird 400 convertible with white interior. They never give you a good look at it but its the same two tone paint scheme as the 69 Trans Am only instead of white with blue trim it light green with white trim. Same rear spoiler as the TA and side louvers. Very rare looking Firebird
General Motors provided use of several of their models [especially the Pontiacs that Captain/Major Nelson drove throughout the series] during location sequences [but were never credited].
I hate modern car models - they are all boring copies of each other

Most 1960s GM cars were well-built and great looking. They were also unique (you could tell a Pontiac from a Chevy or Buick).

That's ALAN HEWITT, not "James Gregory", 'tommy'- he portrayed a similar, cynical police officer ["Detective Bill Brennan"] on "MY FAVORITE MARTIAN".
