as for this finishing their career they released at least 2 albums post this that made top ten in the album chart, hardly a failure for an indie band. Saw them a few times as a teenager and they always came across as good lad. Schofield meh....Andy Crane ran a better broom cupboard anyway.
Ugly, stupid, untalented, unoriginal, tasteless fucking scumbags. Schofield is just a kids tv presenter & always will be, but he's got more talent in his left eye ball than those two pathetic looking cunts who took the stage.
usm are a shit band and they couldnt handle the truth that came from philip. I say go on philip! We were all thinking what you said and besides, he was laughing when got up
Played that night at Nottingham's Rock City. This was filmed lunch time and then straight up to sound check at Nottingham. Frosty on stage after they had a fall out! Crazy gig at Rock City though. Could have finished them but helped make them. You fat wot? ;-)
@Hero87 What is so good about um is that they didn't give a toss if they made it or not. The fact they didn't really hit it big means they are still going today in 2011. Also Carter gigs are the best I've experienced. I would honestly prefer to go to a 5000 strong carter gig than 50000 at a stadium with anyone else cause the roof comes off both from the band and the crowd :-) I'm not knocking others just saying that Carter still shine bright today
@EatMyWetJuicyTurd i bet you sell ya arse out to the devil enough times philip is everything bad in music sumed up in one person ! thats why todays music is such shit ! pricks like himand you running things !
@ehead2222 im only gonna say one thing if all the black niggers were to die in this world, the world would be a safe and happy place and all the modern music would be good too :-)
Where are Carter now? Only about to play 2 amazing sold out gigs in November! Still got it, amazing band live and a loyal fan base that proves after 20 years they can still sell out shows! Bands nowadays have such a short shelf life, I'd like to see bands from today still going in 20 yrs time.
@DaveSpar yeah i caught that on monday. unfortuneatley im at V festival that same weekend. Still, off to see Sultans Of Ping in 2weeks time, that'll get my juices flowing till November!
I still love Carter's music, but FFS it was a Smash Hits party. Pip Schofield is hardly Johnny Rotten - what was he supposed to say? They were miming, Fruitbat was pissed AND pissed off at the fact they were faded out before the agreed time. Oh dear, sorry children.
Shit, this sounds so dated nowadays, the shitty bit of British music before Suede showed up. Carter prob made about 74p in royalties from this. Alan Klein, The Stones' manager sued them for ripping off 'Ruby Tuesday'. I thought Schofield handled that really well, he just laughed it off. At least he's still got a career...
What is everyone being so gay about? Surely Carter USM just did that to be funny, like mates jumping on eachother? And Schofield was right, that was unoriginal and gay. The amps should have got up and kicked Carter over
@MrSpike13 - They smashed it up in protest to being forced to mime along and not sing live. If you notice fruitbat isnt even bothering to sing along to his mike during his backing bits. Notice when they start smashing stuff that the music fades out....
On top of the pops when the same thing happened to them, they spent the whole song kicking baloons around.
And fruitbat was on record as saying that chesney hawks was his mate and p'hlip slagged him off earlier in the night- which added to it
That was nothing like what the story has become. Schofield very mildly insulted them. The 'band' performed a completely forgettable song then looked like berks kicking over their amps. They rugby tackled Schofield and he got up laughing and unfazed.
one of the funniest bits of television ever. I remember being so excited that Carter were actually being shown on tv, jumping about in front of the telly singing along, then cracking up when Fruity jumped on Mr Schofield. Tremendous!
They are still around! They do Carter reunion gigs every now and then, check out some of the clips from this years anniversary gigs in Kentish Town and Brixton-I went to both nights and they were awesome!! Jimbob is doing solo stuff and has a book out soon, Fruitbat plays in Abdoujaparov. Hopefully they'll be back soon with more Carter gigs. :)
I remember being horrified watching this at the time, when the tune was cut short. I was ranting to my parents. Then Fruitbat did that and I cheered the house down. Watching it now, after all these years, I just cheered again. *smirk* I'd forgotten this!
hmm i remember this being so much more than just insults that set off FRUITBAT. They agreed to play live which it clearly wasn't and also agreed it would be the full song which was then cut short. no wonder he was pissed
@discreditor it actually looks like - on closer inspection - that they respond to fruitbats kicking down of the mike stand by turning the sound down - if you check it the volume comes ddown one second after the mike stand is booted into the crowd. great moment.
not sure there was any real aggression in that, hardly "beat up" as the title says. i remember this incident, and i was a fan back in the day. phillips comments were bound to provoke some sort of response. its people like that i don't like. say something insulting with an innocent smile then wonder why the reaction.....it could have been worse
I remember this at the time (altho I missed it) and thought ye great Schofield deserves it.
Now... I think Schofield was right, look at CUSM music that was questionable at the time, badly dated now, cliche stage performance, inability to take criticism, and look at the way Philip reacted, pure professionalism, finally watching this has put CUSM way down in my estimation (well Jimbob anyway) and PS way up.
I was at the Glasgow gig they did just after this appearance. They came on early for their encore, encouraged by the crowd chanting, "Philip Scholfield, you're a wanker, you're a wanker" etc. Ah, we're an erudite bunch, the Scots. They seemed to enjoy it though...
Carter USM to give 2 gigs in London this year on November 13, 2009, they will be on stage at the HMV Forum, London Kentish Town, while on the next day they will be on stage at O2 Academy, Brixton. Their first four albums will be performed in their entirety. First night they will be playing 1992: THE LOVE ALBUM and POST HISTORIC MONSTERS and the second night they will be playing 101 DAMNATIONS & 30 SOMETHING. rumored to be the last Carter shows for a while/ever
Yeah great book, he goes quite into detail about the whole incident and the repercussions that followed (well the crowd at all of their gigs that followed chant "Phillip Schofield is a W****r!" if you call that a repercussion lol) seeing them in Novemeber cannot wait!!
Glad Fruitbat did that to Schofield who is a tw*t !! Shame that the charts are now full of muppets owned by scummers like Simon Cowell - a man ensures that no real creativity goes into the chart e.g. Alex Burke's take on Hallelujah - oh dear :-(
Love Carter. Unfortunately attacking Schofield on BBC 1 T.V. wasn't the smartest move commercially. Being allowed on live prime time telly when you'd not even had a top 10 single would never happen these days.
