  • 1983!! The footage is like came from WW1 capture with an analog calculator.

  • ermmm.. FOUR legends in the vid actually... my uncle Francois was the air steward... and he was a poof, FIVE legends

  • my dad filmed me growing up on Super8 hehe. Anyway nice to see 2 icons of Human creations at the same time =)

Pity we seem to be loosing that drive to make new ideas happen. Both of these machines where created before I was born and both are now in museums with no replacements.

  • @andysim232 3 counting the twin towers, 4 counting super8 camera.

  • kids of my generation have no appreciation for these great machines makes me sick, and im 18

  • What sts mission?

  • I bet most aviation fans, especially nowadays, would've killed to see that combo - Shuttle launch from a supersonic Concorde! I certainly would...

  • Holycrap!!! the 2 most unique machines and fastests!!! Both are SEXY!!!

  • The two most amazing Machines ever built...... and now they're both gone without a successor :(

  • anyone know if this was the concorde for flight 4590?

  • Nice lucky you! I got to fly out of Florida from Tampa Bay two days after Atlantis landed :(

  • only rich people could afford super 8mm cameras and film in those days.........class!

  • @TheThebounty - No, super 8 cameras without sound were reasonably affordable. Super 8 with sound was WAAAY more expensive.

  • @JBofBrisbane yep. i had both. would be like a super8 w/o sound being like a flip 720p camera today, and the super with sound being upper tier hdd cameras

  • That's too quiet for a Concorde.

  • I can see a pixel en route to space

  • The future is cancelled :-(

  • Classic footage: Not only two aircrafts that don't fly anymore, but even a cockpit view of Concorde... this is gold.

  • Concorde and the shuttle both retired with no replacement.

Dont ya feel we're going backwards, wasting resources developing useless junk like facebook instead of building the next concorde or shuttle

  • The funny thing is, Concorde is probably more technologically advanced than that Space shuttle!

  • @RampantRedBull I know that some of the issues they had with the supersonic flight were very difficult to address. I expect it was about equal in terms of difficulty, but the fact that the US decided not to bother tells you something about how difficult, and also how expensive it was.

  • @edj66 Yes, but remember, the shuttles that the US just decommissioned had been heavily updated since the 80's. Modern Shuttles are obviously way more advanced.

  • @RampantRedBull True. There's that mini US airforce one. I'm looking forward to SKYLON.

  • awesome 5*

  • Great archive...for both craft!

I would recomend contacting Avionvideo to get this cleaned up and digitized. This is done for free if they can use the material.

I have used them in the past and they are secure and reliable.

  • 2 icons destroyed by company greed for profits

  • @barthoedemaker

Grow up. Both had outlived their original life expectancy, and yet had gone through multiple re-lifing programs to keep them operational as long as realistically possible. NASA and BACE even hosted clinics for each other, sharing info on how to best care for the aged units. Eventually the cost of maintaining the core ("D") structures of both vehicles exceeded any possible gain from continuing to op them.

    And since NASA's not a for-profit endeavor, and BA's not a charity...

  • Thats two legendary delta-winged planes; both of which made during the same era, both of which now out of service.

Concorde and the Space Shuttle were the two greatest achievements in aviation and shall be forever remembered.

I think this video might just be completely unique.

  • @psmrox yup, the retiring of both is one giant step Backwards !

  • @psmrox It'd beb etter if we could actually see the shuttle launch, but thanks to the stupid old-timey filter put over the footage in post we can't hardly make it out.

  • @psmrox At 1:12, the Twin towers can even be seen! 3 legends in a single vid.

  • @psmrox - you're kidding right? you don't know what the fuck you are talking about...

  • @Poweredbylinux A little bit of free culture for you smart ass:

"During the Mexican oil boom, Air France flew Concorde twice weekly to Mexico City’s International Airport via Washington DC pr New York City, from September 1978 to November 1982.[103][104] The worldwide economic crisis during that period resulted in this route’s cancellation; the last flights were almost empty."

Read the full "concorde" wikipedia article, you'll see that the flight path KJFK-MMMX was going just over Florida.

  • @Timtamtoum The video says 1983. Your quote says 1978-1982. Do the math.

  • @RMinor205A

Completed statement from wiki: "Periodically Concorde visited the region on similar chartered flights to Mexico City and Acapulco."

  • @RMinor205A it's never good to argue with a person that has knowledge on the topic

  • @Timtamtoum Must...find...@Poweredbylinux comment...

  • @Poweredbylinux

Also Concorde used to operate into Miami on occasions. I believe under the shortlived British Airways/Braniff agreement. This would make Florida Shuttle launches potentially visible.

  • @EGTESkyGod

British Airways opped Concorde into MIA (via IAD) until 1994, scheduled service, supersonic on all legs, no cabotage. Braniff was longggggg gone during the life of those flights.

  • @ImmortalSynn Even so, it still produces the possibility of seeing shuttle launches from Concorde.

  • @Poweredbylinux You might also recall that Braniff had an operating agreement with BA and Air France for services between JFK and IAD in the late 1970s. Web search for 'brannif pages'.

  • @Poweredbylinux Ha ha ha very funny! Now shut the fuck up and watch the vid!!!!

  • @Poweredbylinux i don't know!!

  • @Poweredbylinux You have missed two points. First of all, you saw the Concorde nose gearing down as it prepares to land. Secondly, you saw the white vertical streak shooting up the sky. Get the points?

  • @Poweredbylinux NY the only state? They also flew to Washington-Dulles Dumbass!

  • wow is this your personal video?
