Thanks for posting, I visited Waveland 4 months after Katrina. I stood dumbfounded that the US 90 bridge, made of concrete, had been blown into the sea. I am for all Wavelanders.. those who stayed and those who left, a courageous move regardless of the choice. I hope that all Wavelanders find peaceful, good lives post Katrina, God bless the Good People of Waveland...may goodness and
I can't believe that it has been almost 3 years since Katrina hit. The house you show with sign reading "4 dead....we lost our mother, father and two brothers" they were my sister, brother in law and nephews. You can never imagine the shock, pain and sorrow we have felt since then. I just hope and pray that this type of devestation never happens again. May God bless each of you that have helped with the recovery efforts in MS
I come to Waveland twice a year with a group to help with rebuilding. It breaks my heart to see how many people are still dealing with this every single day, some with no end in sight. Waveland needs more help!
everyone from MS i'd like to say to all of you that you are so strong through this storm and everything i dont know what i would do if that happened to me
As you know if you read the information about this video - I did not create it. But I think the story needs to be told, so it is posted here with permission. Quality suffered in the uploading, I apologize.
I just went down to Mississippi his past week and I worked in Waveland to fix up houses. It was the best experience of my life and I loved it. I am supporting you all from the bottom of my heart. <3
This video gave you a chance to see just how extensive the damage was in waveland, things that really touch you and make you thankful for the people and things you have!
My aunt and uncle, grandparents lived on Waveland, Ave. in Waveland, Ms. They lost everything. As of march 2, 2007 their house is still not finished. The area looks like the storm happened last week. Please e-mail me. If you wish to donate furniture of appliances, food, cash. I wish to help the people of Waveland. Fellow Americans, these are our brothers and sisters. They need YOUR DONATIONS. Please contact me and I can direct you to the real citizens of Waveland that need your help. God Bless!
I was a volunteer from Missouri shortly after the Hurricane hit Waveland. I think it was less than a week after when I was there. I was with no organization. I came with 3 other individuals to help. I think the people of Waveland helped me get through what I saw. I almost couldn't bear it. Images are still with me to this day. All of the children I saw, All of the families who had no tent, pillow, blanket, clothes, car, home. Where were they expected to sleep?
I'm sorry for your loss. The destruction and suffering are still overwhelming to me - over a year later, and I only volunteered to help. I can only imagine the grief you must be experiencing. However, I have learned that the people of Mississippi are strong. You are survivors. I believe that you will return. I will keep my website up and updated until that happens, as long as it takes.
Over 40 years ago my grandparents moved to Waveland...on Waveland Ave. I recall lazy Sundays in the summer with them...they rode out Camile in their home...3 feet of water in a 2 foot rasied house...they have been gone for quite sometime...their home remained in my family until Katrina...lost my father too. However, I still have the memories of my dad and his parents...in Waveland..d on a lazy Sunday...in the summer.
I live very close to Waveland. I arrived here right after Katrina. It's the saddest experience of my life. Even though I did not lose anything, I've lived here since then. This beautiful place is devastated. Sorrow reigns. Slowly we are rebuilding. God bless you all...or better yet...God bless yawl.
