This song is called "The Girl In My Dreams" and it is by Perfect Gentlemen. I'm sure Maurice Starr chose the lead singer for the exact reason being debated here- he sounds vaguely like Joey Mcintyre... but he isn't the real thing ;)

This is perfect Gentlemen...HOWEVER...NKOTB sang backup in this song. I'm a huge NKOTB fan and I also had the Perfect Gentlemen album.  Maurice Starr's son was in this group....If you listen closely, you can hear Jordan Knight's falsetto voice. Perfect Gentlemen also opened for NKOTB back in the day.

I think this song is by The Perfect Gentlemen (A trio by Maurice Stars including one of his sons) The new Kids On the Block are in fact singing on this song and is credited on the album. The song can be found on the 1990 album called Rated PG :-)
