@Shtove No, it does not. There'd be no twiddly bits in the ringing, also I think she's playing it slightly too fast for the speed that bells will have been ring at that time
I understand your point about the speed and the "twiddly" bits - hehe! - but I'm wondering if a city of bell towers could produce an elaborate concert.
@Shtove It would be difficult. Each tower of each church behaved as an individual, also the seats of bells in each tower would not be in tune with each other, also the logistics would be a nightmare
@Shtove Pretty much yes... the piece is like a fantasia loosely based on the theme of bells ringing out in rudimentary changes. Still wonderful to hear for me though... an art that is still carried out with passion today, the beginnings of which can be heard in echoes in this fabulous piece of music.
This is my new favourite piece!!!! Wow, she does such an amazing job! Absorbing, flawless, beautiful expression... yes, on the Cembalo! I have to listen to it again and again and again...
The Cembalo is the most beautiful Baroque instrument ever and Kaung-Ae Lee has mastered it even more beautifully. An exemplary performance on a most difficult piece of music. Bravice!
Learn them. Well... this one is something especially difficult (as long as you can't play piano or something like that) but you are NEVER too old to learn an instrument.
when people say "German harpsichord," they are referring to a style. That German harpsichord could very well have been made in Botswana, but it would still be German due to the style it is built in.
What a silly thing to say, mrmolinodelahoz. How many generations since Victoria and Albert (and her only half-German)? Given the "blood" distribution over that time, the German inheritance is about 9% in Queen Elizabeth, as if that made any difference at all.
Does this imitate what Byrd experienced? I'm trying to imagine the bells of Tudor London ringing out on great occasions.

"Byrd on a german Harpsichord?"
Why not? Bach's music was played on English, French and Italian harpsichords while he was living, and Byrd's music was known outside of England.
lichtbroeder 3 years ago 2
Bach prefered french harpsichords, and he played on them, and he had been buying french harpsichords.

How do you feel about a German sitting on an English throne, which is still the case?

Has that Harpsichord been tuned to a Renaissance Sounding, it sounds very 1500's?

Fantastic, although I wish the audio was better recorded. It's the best video of this piece on YouTube, though.
