@OoDistortedHarpoO Oh, yea! Brandon actually has already "upgraded" to Blake (and BTBAM). Search for "Brandon Scott Drums" and you'll find his covers of "White Walls", "Obfuscation", and "Prequel To The Sequel". Blake Richardson friggin' rocks!
what was thaaaaatt?...hey man, send your demos to all the big bands arround the world...you got the perfect skills...you got the future fixed... wow that was awesome.... i m impacted...
He does a decent job with the odd time signatures but it is very important that along with playing them he also understands them. It's easy to figure odd rhythms and time signatures but it's a whole new world when you can understand them.
@shhharas Ha ha! I never realized it before, but the weather stripping we put on his drum heads to deaden the overtones does look like a mustache! Ha ha!
@HardcorePeter10 It's not about having great equipment. It's about desire and the amount of time that is dedicated to doing whatever it is you want to get good at. And you can accomplish that on equipment that is not very expensive.
From one drummer to another, I think the way your son sets up his kit is quite uncomfortable for him. I think he could get more dynamics out of his set but putting the drums closer together and at the same angle, except for the octobans, of course. IMO
@DrumBum561 Thanks for the the comment. Although, I am curious how you would be able to tell what is uncomfortable for HIM. I have played on a lot of other drummers sets and, while I thought that some of their configurations were uncomfortable for ME, it would seem that it was comfortable for THEM. So... that just seems like an odd observation to me. Wouldn't you agree that every drummer feels the most comfortable with their drums configured in a way that is unique to their own style?
@LorenScott69 yes. i was merely stating what i observed. it looked difficult for him to move back and forth from the ride to another cymbal (e.g. hihat), therefore i made my statement. im not trying to force anything on him, just trying to help.
@DrumBum561 No worries. We do appreciate the feedback. I was just not clear on your comment. Sorry. He has actually been playing so long now and has evolved his set configuration into one that is the most efficient for him. I can't play on his set without rearranging stuff to fit my style, but that setup works for him. So, I feel "whatever works". :)
lol thx man do u drum and if soo wat r ur influences so i can check em out??? I just woke up and i dont feel like leaving the house right now sooo im bored
We're actually pretty poor... :( That drum set was bought with funds partly from selling my old drum set, plus a collection of Christmas money that Brandon got from various relatives. But, hopefully, one day, Brandon's talents will make HIM rich! :)
Well...on top of that, that kid must have the best paying paper route around...
I'm looking at about $1600 (at least) worth of cymbals, and even if he bought that kit at a once-in-a-lifetime low price...it had to have been at least $1300...and then throw all that hardware on top of that. Man, I wish I was "poor" enough to afford a $3000 kit...
The main set is the Tama Rockstar model, which is not a very hi-end model. But, I photographed a wedding for a guy who works for Tama, and he got us the set for wholesale, plus special pricing on the 13' tom that is not part of the base set. The 2 Octabons were mine from my old drum set, as were the 2nd set of cheap high hats on the right side. The other cymbals and firecracker snare, Brandon did get with his own money. He earns money offering drum lessons -- no paper route. :)
I have to say, definately got your rush down, DT's hard for anyone, im sure Portnoy even has some trouble with some of the stuff that he plays. Just keep practicing man, and you'll get everything down in a heartbeat! :)
Add another inspiration. look up Blake Richardson

Having a parent to buy you a kit has nothing to do with skill. He would be just as talented on a standard kit.

But anyway hes very talented

Oh, and can you please tell me what chinas you're using?
YoungDrummer92 2 years ago
The chinas are by Wuhan -- affordable and cheap. All other cymbals are by Sabian.
LorenScott69 2 years ago
What size china's and also what kind of stands did you use? Also your son is very talented, and has a great taste in music.
poryon2 2 years ago
The chinas are 18", 16", and 12". The 12" one has a 10" Sabian splash on it upside down. The stands are a mix of Tama and no-name brands.
