@BobbyDonnell1998 Because I figure that people want to see the national news in this clip, not commercials, and most people probably wouldn't care about what was going on in Cleveland.
CBS imo was absolutely the best network to watch that night. Regardless of what you might think of Rather, he really captured all the drama and excitement that kept coming in.
This is what I had heard what the problem was. in Duval county (aka Jacksonville). It is a heavily Republican county. The bad exit polls were showing that Gore doing exceptionally well in Duval county. They assumed if Gore does well in the Republican areas then he'll clearly win. When most of the votes from Duval county came in by 10:00 and they saw that Gore didn't do so hot they pulled back the call. At 2 AM Volusia county accidentally credited Bush with 30,000 votes that was for Gore.
@kimmykola Worst day. Over 1 million iraqis died after that election. Over 4,400 American Troops died (not to mention allied troops). On 9/11, 3,000 Americans died. Pearl Harbor, 2,200 died. Bush signed the ordered that caused the deaths of millions. So yes, his election was the WORST day in US history.
@SirAvalord First you say a fact that has never been proved...1 million people killed in Iraq, then you say the order that killed millions. You facts multilpied in one paragraph. Was it 1 million or millions?
@kimmykola Well instead of believing a random person on the internet and then crying about a mistype, why don't you educate yourself by doing a little research. Time to be a big boy now.
Here's a simple way to prevent the chaos that ensued from 2000; namely wait until at least 8:00 to start actual projections so that way, there will be several states that would have closed long enough to have at least some hard numbers available. The networks could do what they wanted with the other time (regular primetime, local programming or using the previous hour in a manner similar to a pre-game show).
Wow! I was in the 8th grade when this happened and I remember waking up three in the morning and thinking there was a new President, Dan Rather was STILL on the television!!!
@tornadoguy12 Actually Gore lost, as also confirmed by independent recounts - but there is no convincing those, like you, who live in alternate realities. You are same sort of people who continue to insist that Obama is not an American, just on the other side of the isle. However, Gore would have won if he had just managed to carry his own home state.
@tornadoguy12 Let's also not forget that the all major news networks incorrectly reported that the polls in Florida had all closed more than 1 hour before they had in fact closed in the most conservative parts of the state, and in fact even called the state before those polls had closed. That has been calculated to have to caused a significant amount of lost net votes for Bush - perhaps thousands. So if you are looking for something rigged - there you have it.
Amazing how they were helping Gore try to steal that election that early.

Now we don't even need to worry about the electoral map until each side earns 200 votes
