Our 5 month old kitten is doing the exact same thing. He's on antibiotics, but he still coughs like this about 3 times a day. Does anybody know how long this usually lasts before another vet visit should be scheduled?
Thank you for this video --- our little blind kitten is doing the same thing randomly (2-3 times a day), and we can't seem to catch it on video to show the vet. Now we have your video to show and point to, the sounds are exactly the same, wet, raspy and disheartening.
Hello, my cat is "coughing" the same. No drippy nose - so I'm sure it's not a cold. she has been like this for over 3 weeks, and sounds exactly like your cat.
Was there a treatment for your cat? I thought maybe because we just moved that it was due to dust, but now that we and the dust has settled I'm getting worried. Thank you for posting this video!
Its FURBALL time!!! Get ready with big kitcken tissue to place under the cat as this would make less mess to clean up!
When my cat Sooty coughs up a furball could be day or night I get a kitchen tissue pull out a few feet of it fold it over then place it under his mouth then drop the tissue down the toliet. The mess a furball makes! lol
That wet noise you can hear means this cat is actually having an asthma attack and not just coughing. Coughing would be a dry, airy sound as opposed to a phlegmy sound.
This cat has asthma and isn't simply coughing. See this was filmed in 09 sure hope the poor thing has had treatment for this since that date.. it needs prompt attention!
I always find it odd that people can't tell the difference, because to me it's obvious. But yeah, when they are puking something up it's more of a, "GYORK! GYORK! GYORK!" and their whole body convulsions forward. With a cough it's more hacking and more "breathy"/wheezy.
My cat coughed like this and then turned yellow 9 months later. She was put to sleep immediately. Never assume your cat's cough is "nothing." it's better to assume the worst and get the help you need so you don't lose your little kitty.
my cat did this for one day and he never did it again ( this was like 3 days ago) is it possible that my cat is coughing due to cold weather i live in canada it has been snowing for a while please
What is the "respiratory problem"? It sounds a lot like feline asthma. Unfortunately, most vets aren't well versed in feline asthma, and, to the best of my knowledge, there really is no test.
My kitty is doing this. I have a vet appointment tomorrow. Did kitty ever get better? I hope so. I am so scared that there is something wrong with my cat :(
That is the reason this video is posted - it is often very difficult to tell the difference.
In this case, the cat is coughing due to a respiratory problem which was diagnosed by one of our veterinarians. The doctor asked me to post this video for an example for future cases.
My cat is doing the same thing, have spent over $1000 at the vet clinic, still no diagnosis and he's getting worse. Can you PLEASE tell me what your vet's diagnosis was so I can get my cat some help? Negative for heartworm, FIV & feline leukemia, and they said there is no radiologic evidence of asthma. He's only 2 and I'm scared.
@katgord You just got to calm down, give it something peaceful to do, and make sure your cat rests every once and a while. Make sure it doesn't run around, and all that.
my cat is constantly doing this is it serious

@fruit17cake
I've had a cat with heart failure and one with asthma. Both have coughs. Though, they sound different. An asthma cough is "Wetter".
Anyway, it's possible that you cat has a "cold" or allergies. You have to watch and see if he coughs again and how often.

X rays can show indications of asthma, but not all suffers of asthma have positive x-rays.

Actually this sounds just like a hairball being lodged up and then swallowed again. Not coughing.
