  • Thank you, Kellyoneill!

  • it is so great to see that barney once stood on his own two feets! :) great band! lovely music! amzing, just amazing!!

  • I must hear every luke kelly song before I sleep...

  • I love how Luke gets the audience clapping at 2.04 and then the nod and grin. :) Great band the Dubliners!

  • No matter the lineup the Dubliners are always great.

  • This line up is amazing - Barneys contribution is always so tight .Jim and Luke made a great vocal combination

  • Another amazing song sung by an artist capable of making international and immortal these simple songs.

    RIP Lúcás Ó Ceallaigh.

  • The musical sound that these four achieved is amazingly rich and has incredible depth! It was unique to this period.

  • What a great song!

  • Great song

  • Any1 tht press the "Dislike" Botton was som1 tht couldnt clap along :D

  • How can you choose I don't like it? This Band, this Song This Is Awesome! This is more than music!

  • The Dubliners rules!

  • The person on the left is Jim McCann

  • kellyoneill can you help???? Is the man on the far left Ciarian Burke? He looks different from other videos, so if he is not Mr. Burke, do you know who he is? Thanks for posting all these great videos. They play well in Chicago.

  • @relaxednow The man on the far left is Jim McCann. He joined the Dubliners in 1974, replacing Ronnie Drew and Ciaran Burke. He left the group in 1979 when Ronnie Drew returned.

  • Anyone who can keep still when the great man performs, IS DEAD!

  • great version

  • This song will always keep your spirits up when your away from your home and make you more determined than ever to get back there. God Bless You Luke you were certainly the best I have ever heard.

  • A GREAT SONG BY A GREAT SINGER

  • I love this music. Irish music is some of the most beautiful music anywhere. Stars forever and a fav --:)Rod

  • Holy shit this is unreal, fucking love greenore so much, fishing is unreal, reminds me of frank gallager

  • as long as we listen he will never be truly gone. legend

  • Beautifull!!!!!!!!!!! last time i heard this i was 5 years old i think sitting in my dads car. thanks for uploading!

  • This is lovely !

  • UP THE DUBS ! I LOVE YOU IRELAND !

  • i live beside carlingford lough a town called warrenpoint shit spot for fishing but greenore is great for the makeral

  • Luke Kelly is a genius angel!

  • brilliant great man luke from wexford

  • Luke Kelly is an angel.

  • He is, at least sort of.

An angel with a craggy yet oddly beautiful face, a devilish amount of charisma, and a voice so full of warmth, it even warms MY cynical, bitter little heart.

Also, by all accounts, an honest leftist who didn't just talk the talk, but walked the walk!

  • What a wonderful description lanternchikk, I agree totally.

    As you know I would!

  • Irish folk are more for the "yeeeooo!!" as opposed to woo-hoo.

  • well said hi "yeeeooo" from a county Derry Luke fan!

  • and another YEEOOOO! from another Doire fan!

  • viva Eire,terra verde e indomabile.Fantastics songs!!

  • 2:08 makes me think of that Mitch Hedburg bit where he says "I just got back from vacation in Ireland," and and Irishman in the audiance says "Woo-hoo!", and Mitch says, "Yeah, that's why I left; 'cause fuckers go 'woo-hoo'."

I love this song. Luke truly was a god among men. Thanks, Kells, for posting all these videos, or I may never have heard of him.

  • Really? aren't Americans notorious woo-ers? I always hear it on tv programmes, at least this is in the right setting lol

  • Hell yeah! I'll do a "woo-hoo" whenever it's called for!!! ;)

    Just enjoy the damn song!

  • This song reminds me of my Daddy (Paddy Curran, Newry, RIP 25.05.07) who loved to go to Greenore fishing x

  • Up Louth !

  • They were really at their best here great sound.

  • Another (typically) amazing performance by luke there, but you've also got to hand it to jim there too - the harmony between the two of them is just out of this world

  • Well said, thought that myself when I listened to this, I think his voice was at it's best in the days pictured here, he still sounded great on the 40th anniversary Gaiety performance.

  • soo true. we're so used to hearing Luke sing with Ronnie (with his low, deep voice) but it's great to hear Jim singing with Luke (with a higher voice)...they sound great together!!!

    RIP Luke x

  • i just cant start my day without listening to these lads..it has so much energy and spirit within each and everysong..May the lights of heaven shine upon you lads..RIP Ciaran, ronnie, luke..

    eireann go brach

  • I am addicted to Luke's voice. It is so full of warmth. I'm in love with the voice, but I'm pretty sure I could fall in love with the man too.

    So fucking BEAUTIFUL.

  • Germans always clap their hands in the same way. If i wouldn´t know this is in "liedercircus" i would know it on their clapping. why they never clap on 2+4 :) sounds better

    (typical german -.-)

    (woooaaa, bad english-sorry,)

    Thanks Kellyoneil!!

    Love Luke

  • Unnecessary, maybe add an "lol" - not worth the thumbs down though. Dubliners were well received in Germany, probably still are, so credit where credit's due - every Nationality has it's history, of which not all of its Nationals are proud.

(They would have to be really legging it in the final verse wouldn't they? - No One Goose-Stepped that fast, more Monty Python than Third Reich I Think : - lol )

  • If you notice, in the last few seconds of the clip, the audience clapping is in perfect step with Jim's foot tapping !

  • Both Barney & Jim Mccann are locked, but it is a testament to them both that it never affected the music! Irish music at its best!

  • This has to be the best version of carlingford ever recorded.

  • Smashing Lukee!!!

  • He could sing his tight little North Dublin bum off alright.:D

    (WHERE'S my time travelling device???!!!!!????)

  • lovely song it really connects with me as my grandmother was rared up in carlingford

  • gr8 sound between luke and jim

  • I;m going to Ireland on Sunday the 29th, are teh Dubliners playing anywhere?

  • Luke Kelly could sing like no other,we are lucky to have these recordings.

  • This song was written by Tommy Makem.

  • Where is Ronnie Drew?

  • Drew left for a few years to go solo,

    returned in 1979.

  • 3 Thumbs Down for a fairly obvious question?

(Was the first thing that came into my head when they bounced on to the stage!)

Can't see how this is in any way -ve

  • Oh, wonderful! When was this filmed?

  • It was filmed in germany in 1976.

  • Beautiful place Carlingford ! Just over the border from the North , a little gem. Try the Carlingford arms for a beautiful pub food.

  • What a gifted singer,R.I.P. God Bless

  • great sound and harmony in this version.Jim macann was an asset to the dubliners at that time.Luke Kelly will never be forgotten.may he rest in peace.

  • I just love the Luke Kelly DVD. His delivery is excellent. I also sing Farewell to Carlingford and find myself (unconsciously) mimicking Luke's phrasing. Great stuff!

  • i love luke kelly! R.I.P

  • i moved from ireland last year, and this makes me reaaly home sick..but luke is absolutly great!

  • I am newfie my Grand Mother was Irish I love the irish muusic as well as newfie music which are almost the same. Some day I hope to visit Ireland what would be a god place to visit

  • So would Newfoundland by. I wants to see Gross morn me son. I've had the pleasure to know and work with many Newfies and I have to say you boys are some of the finest gentlemen I've ever known. From the bottom of my heart. Hats off to Newfoundland!

  • yes gros morne is pretty impressive my wife is from that area so I visit a couple of times each year

  • Absolutely marvellous! I just love this kind of music even though i'm Swedish :)

  • luke does a better version of this than makem, which is remarkable considering its makemns song1

  • Luke just standing there singing as no other, that I know, could sing. Wonderful Luke. A man born to sing for us.

  • Took the crowd a long time to appreciate a good song,24 years dead now Luke, gone but never forgotten!

  • A complete and utter joy to listen to! that voice always brings a tear to my eye! God bless you luke....Davey ramone...thechantywrasslers.

  • What a voice..

  • i love how deep and rich his voice sounds in this ... think i love him even more after hearing it!

  • he had to do somptin with dat German audience lol

  • Kelly has the same banjo style of Makem. Not very often I can agree that a cover was done properly but these type of songs are born to be played by others and thank god someone of quality did it. Cheers!

  • Yeah it was in germany in 1976,

Hot Ashpalt was in germany too in 1979

  • I always find myself coming back to these wonderful songs that you posted. Go raibh maith agat

  • @kellyoneill I'd like to have your opinion on this. I think the sound of the Dubliners during this period was truly tremendous. Part was the addition Jim McCann. I wish Cieran Bourke could have sung with them here. sigh.

  • You can see the magic of his at work at around 2:03, just 2 claps and hes got the audience on hand, simply magic

  • That is impressive, I've never seen anybody do that

  • VERY POWERFUL Not only the Voice Lucky

  • That man will never die....he will always live on in his music...that's his legacy

  • it makes you want to have been born a few decades earlier

  • too right its a pity we weren't arond at the time of Lukey!

  • as a wee baby I grew up to these songs never knew how important they were, my dad met luke a few times a lovely lad he was...

  • lukes a legend from me own hometown,, rip luke,, the irish bob marley

  • Hard to believe he is dead. He was so vibrant in his singing.

  • Luke is my hero :)

  • Ha ha... haven't seen Jim McCann in a Dubliner's line up that early before

  • Jim McCann was nearly finished his stint in the Dubliners at that stage! He was only a full-time member from '74-'79

  • superb

  • killer vid

  • COOL VID KEL, LIKE THIS SONG.

  • Excellent! I love it.

  • Brilliant song Thanks a lot for uploading I love this Version!!
