Brilliant...It' has your own character and personality....what a pleasurable experience that is...
I notice there is some imbecile comments on how fast or slow Valentina should be playing the piece...LOL..these asinine individuals completely lack discernment & knowledge of the history of classical music in general.
....Continued... They have NO scholarship whatsoever, to make such disabled comments. I propose to those implied, rather than telling Valentina how to "do her job", to create a video response showing how they themselves are incapable or capable of performing the piece better than what she does.If you talk the talk, you got to walk the walk, that's how it's done, because talk is just too cheap.
For the idiots signing on to their accounts just to negatively comment about one's clothing(the dress) while Valentina is excecuting La Campanella with such love and intensity.....are you serious??....how vain, how shallow and empty can one be to "open their mouth", while one is loving to the piano so deeply? I notice the music, the proficiency, the hands, the movements, and the passion involved in it.... Yep, What a lucky piano that is....
@Andytheminstrel I remember her saying in an interview etc. that she practices about 10-12 hours whenever she has got time. She also stated that 15 hours makes one's brain explode and it leaves sticky goo on the keys... LOL! Valentina is indeed blessed not only with the talent of playing piano, but also with a witty sense of humor! :D
i don't know if i feel this way because i saw the slow version first but i like the slow version, which is still too fast to me, better. i think if you're playing piano, you should play it like you're playing piano not violin. also, i think your crescendos and diminuendos are weak. Your tempo is so consistent that it sounds like a machine playing. but well done. besides, if you can play la campanella like a "machine," at least no one can say that it's bad
@ReminiscenceS2 listen to Cziffra play la campanella, fast and absolutely not like a machine, eureka! it can be done! xD but that is Cziffra, not Lisitsa or Kissin or Yundi Li.
Sure, i cant play better than that. But if i compare your performance with the others ( for that song), there is a certain thing that, you are playing without a soul. I felt like watching a student that preparing for an exam. Not a pianist playing and make the listeners feel the song.
Is this you playing? I like this interpretation, but it is a bit fast. Violin and piano are 2 different instruments, and in my honest opinion, should be treated as such. Just saying :P Otherwise, this is a very accurate transcription. Some of this stuff looked too easy for the player. If you don't mind me asking... how wide is your span? (more than an octave, I assume)
Cziffra performance is very well, that is the right tempo. also see AYApiano performance, also very good and listen to YW1935 performance, a young 12 years girl, a bit too slow but very very well played.
@antonius0123456789 Liszt idolized Paganini and he wanted piano to sound like Paganini's virtuoso violin. The theme is borrowed fromPaganini and if you check ANY violinist playing it - the tempo is always the same( Kogan , Heifetz, Accardo...) and it is MUCH quicker than piano attempts. yes , they don't have those pesky skips and other technical fifficulties - but this not an excuse for any pianist to play it in half-tempo!!!!Search youtube for :Paganini Campanella Violin
@ValentinaLisitsa I love your playing, but I must mention that as you said, Liszt borrowed only the theme from Paganini and he composed his own peice based on that. He wanted his version to be played in Allegretto tempo not Presto, since his arrangement of this theme doesn't need to be played that fast to achieve the goal of sounding like Paganini's virtouso violin.
@Drake126 If you care to take a look at the violin score it is also marked Allegretto Grazioso. To my knowledge there are no arguments between violinists about the tempo of this piece. Signature 6/8 is counted in 2, not in 6 - any conductor will tell you that (remember this is for violin AND orchestra?). Difficulties that come with jumps in such tempo are no concern to Liszt and if you think that this is a hard piece in such tempo look into erlier version of it called Grand Bravura Fantasy :)
@ValentinaLisitsa don't listen to them; you played it BEAUTIFULLY! perfect tempo in my opinion. there were very few points where you could have slowed it down a bit maybe towards the end, but great! kissin plays it with similar tempo and i'm sure Liszt did as well..
Playing it at half-tempo isn't bad though... it sounds really good sometimes. But it is good that there are interpretations of both speeds. It would be boring if all interpretations were ONLY slow, or only fast.
@antonius0123456789 That's just your opinion. She may like it the way she's playing it, and you may like it...uh...well...the way you like it. If I go in your house and I don't like the color of your walls, i wouldn't say, "Hey, whose the IDIOT who painted the walls green, with red stripes?" Maybe I would tell my friend behind your back(: but not directly to you. (I'm not saying ur house is green, with red stripes. Just an example.)
Horrible, just check Alicia de la Rocha's quality and expression as a close sample... This girl is like a circus: I just admire her speed, her hability , but I can not appreciate the music ... I don't get into the music with her interpretation, SORRY!
@valkyrieXI .... I'm very.... very tired of hearing that.... you know what... you can't effing play paganini with emotion you're to worried with hitting the notes 5 octaves apart in under .5 seconds...
@valkyrieXI I hate that statement. To me it's more pleasant to watch & hear Valentina's graceful, yet intensive playing than watch some awkward performer doing weird gestures, looking like he/she would be suffering and adding unnecessary "interpretative" dynamics etc. However, I do admit that this isn't Valentina's best performance of this piece. The one where she has the red dress (the Seoul encore) is soooo much better.
@valkyrieXI Because jumping 2 octaves in... oh idk a tenth of a second is SOOO easy. most people could never even dream to play like her! yourself included.
First of all this is 'youtube' there is no sense of atmosphere, both recordings r filmed under different conditions,Lisitsas especially doesn't have the acoustics that Kissins has.I spent 3 years studying piano at the Royal Academy, spending time and listening to some of the greatest concert pianists in the world, Brendel, Argerich, Lisitsa and Kissin,i can assure you that in a concert hall (not on your computer) that there is very little between any of them, thats why there all Concert pianists
i also learnt do develop good hearing/ listening techniques, and can tell you that Kissin plays far more wrong notes than lisitsa in this particular performance..Ok your opinion is fine but judging by your attempts at playing classical music, maybe you should start paying more attention to your own timing, technique, and musical ability? I don't care whether or not you care who i am, all i can say is i have the educated background and over 20 years as a professional musician.
@CiudadJuerga ok so i checked out your channel, and your half hearted attempt at the revolutionary etude, which you absolutely murdered. It annoys me when people like you criticise or underestimate the time a pianist puts into learning and perfecting a piece, just for some wannabe musician to come along and pretend they know better. ps. i played op.10 no.12 for my finals at the Royal Academy :)
@mrpolaroid123 It's a difficult piece to play. But I'm not underestimating lisitsa performance. it's good. but is not as good as kissin. I think her performance is too flat. I don't care who you are or if you are close to Lisitsa. I just can tell you the truth and many people would agree as soon as they check kissins performance in London. it's about correct timing. You don't have to study to notice differences and apreciate music. This opinion doesn't harm any one but you.
Despite the poor audio quality of the Lundi performance, it is played with significantly more energy and significantly faster tempos which are essentially what the piece is about.
Also, in a number of places, despite the incredibly minor (and considering the complexity of the piece forgivable) nature of them, there are places in this performance which are simply uncleanly played. Lundi's sounds cleaner to me.
This is like lang lang, fast fingering, but is to flat. This is nothing compared to evgeny kissin's interpretation. You'll notice the differencr quickly, beetwen someone just playing and someone made for the music.
@irvguitar This made me laugh for a good solid minute. Granted, I'm stoned. But still. My initial reaction to this video was "Hmmm, very.... pink...".... Very David Lynch.
@IhatejonasandHSM man you just entered my goddamn black list....are serious??Yundi Li's performance is by far untouchable...especially from this one...the break at the end is far less passionate here and without the right attitude....it has some micro details tha make yundis just right..its like watchdog66 said his signature piece and crappy goes way too far...
the shots of her hands looked like they got the benny hill fast forward treatment.

It annoys me when people like you criticise or underestimate the time a pianist puts into learning and perfecting a piece, just for some wannabe musician to come along and pretend they know better. ps. i played op.10 no.12 for my finals at the Royal Academy :)
mrpolaroid123 1 year ago
@mrpolaroid123 It's a difficult piece to play. But I'm not underestimating lisitsa performance. it's good. but is not as good as kissin. I think her performance is too flat. I don't care who you are or if you are close to Lisitsa. I just can tell you the truth and many people would agree as soon as they check kissins performance in London. it's about correct timing. You don't have to study to notice differences and apreciate music. This opinion doesn't harm any one but you.

@IhatejonasandHSM Hahaha! Yundi Li's version is better :)

@IhatejonasandHSM
