A song that should have won. Rhythm backbeat & melody was 100% 'of that moment' It didnt win 'cos both were wholly wrongly outfitted & their dance routine & choregrophy wasnt 2 clevver whatsoever; ROMANCE & PASSION is what wins Eurovision - plus a GREAT SONG. One STEP FURTHER had the latter (only & sadly) ...but it SHIRLY must B re-leased/ redone soon.......with a more sultry mix per chance and at 112 BPM ....Leona style... Hugs RDOG XXX
I'm in total agreement with all the "Sally Anne Triplett was a babe" comments! The 1982 Top of the Pops performance used to be on YouTube, shame it's gone because Sally used to give me the horn in that clip!
What, couldn't they get Dollar? Actually, I kinda like this tune, though this version doesn't have the modern (for 1982) "big beat" sound. And what on EARTH are they doing at the beginning, before the vocals kick in? Is that technically "choreography"?
Great performance and lovely dancing. I really like the girl, she's sweet. Her outfit really suits her well ! Lively song, but I think it needed a bit more backing !
steves 50 this year and has had a career playing keyboards for murry head, the penguin cafe orchestra and bob geldof to name but a few. Both of them still look great. I saw them at the weekend and they mimed along to one step further and did all the moves too. steve popped up on never mind the buzzcocks about 7 years ago.
yeah man! my mate paul told me about this song.he loves it. in fact he loves it alot??tell you what groovesters, I'm gonna find the lyrics and recite them to him on a daily basis along wi 'funky fwarr' dance moves. This reminds me of a joke i heard the other day bout a cheese toasty.......................
I agree an underrated song and an excellent performance from the duo, Sally Ann was one sexy lady. As someone said it lost something through the orchestra. A lot worse songs than this have won it in recent times.
I remember watching this at 10 years of age eating chicken in a basket at my aunties house while my parents had a fon due in the next room :) & yes the orchestration lacked the sparkle of the original production
Euro-dudes ! search "you-tube" for Bardo One step further for the original version rather than this version & you will see this had a very strong case for winning!
Did you all dig Jan Leeming's impression of Jimi Hendrix. I did'nt really like that song at all, I've heard better in my local pub most weekends :).
That song will probably end up on one of those cheesey "Top of the Pops" albums, Or! "Thats What's I Don't Call Music NOW", Or even! "40 Forgettable Hits of the 80s" :)
the vocals didn't seem to flow, the sound from the orchestra wasn't quite right, i think a bouncier feel would have been better or the use of a backing track instead.
Don't we just love Wogan? So, Britain was allowed to show they already had cars! A very good song ruined by a poor performance. She's wearing a wig, doesn't she? If not, she should dump her hair stylist.
NO, YOU PLUG! This song didnt suit a live orchestra - it works both ways - listen to it on record sounds a real contender! Its her own hair!!! I guess you are bald!!!

Such a great song... difficult one to sing live with the voices strangled round eachother.

Great song and good voices, no doubt about that, but somehow not as good as the studio version. (still far better than the awful Austrian song... ;)
jaybee61 4 years ago
Not good singers and sang out of tune. At least the Austrian entry was in tune.

Sorry luv but the orchestration for this song JUST WASNT RIGHT - see the original version - as for singing this girl can sing ur knickers off!

Yes, Sally Ann Triplett, an ultra-charming girl and a great singer. How can you not like her? And btw, "Sonntag" was definitely out of tune.

I love Sally Ann's outfit, she looks really good. I love my white stilettos and I'm proud of it!

One of those songs that just didn't work as well with the orchestra. The studio version is far better, one of the best UK entries in that regard.

I've said it before but Ronnie Hazelhurst & his orchestra butchered this song, maybe the BBC didn't want another UK win.
loverob 4 years ago
I agree. I have this song on MP3 (lol sad I know) but it's actually quite decent compared to this God awful orchestra.

The music and filming of the introductory film reminds me of a dodgy 1970s Thames TV sitcom.
