  • I like this short series of videos explaining these different slings. Thank you very much. I was wondering, between the USGI and the leather m1907, which does he prefer?

  • great video! very helpful - thanks!

  • Thank you very much sir! Great instructions on how to use a sling. Also wonderful cat!

  • Unecessary and overkill.

  • Oh this is nonsense - I can accomplish the same thing with a conventional one piece carry sling and get into position in a small fraction of the time it took this guy to get setup to shoot.

  • Good video. I remember shooting with 1907 style slings as a kid in NRA smallbore. Thanks for posting this.

  • Love the cat!!!

  • @blackfork thanks, but the ak has an hk type eyelet on the foregrip instead of a loop (the attachment points are reversed front to back). I got the usgi sling but it doesn't work.

  • @rchen404 I found a way to attach the usgi sling to an AK.First get a 1.25 inch D-ring and attach it to the AK sling eyelet with one of those oval shaped little carabiner type things, the one with the screw type closure(I don't remember what these things are called). You can find them at walfart in the hardware section where they have all the fasteners.

  • I was there. Several new videos up!

  • he,y where you at camp perry 2011 for the cmp matches?

  • Hi I've been looking all over for a similar deliberate sling for an AK. Do you know where I can get one? thanks

  • @rchen404 Probably the 50 inch Turner sling would work. Any leather sling probably would, though you might have to cut it down.

  • Very nice demonstration Blackfork!

  • *sees cat and smiles* *sees video* great vid, man.

  • Thank you very much for making this video. Extremely helpful.

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing!! =)

  • Been wondering how to properly set one of these up

  • the cat looks really mad

  • LOL Cat zoom.

  • This dude's a boss.

  • Your cat is awesome looking! I have a gold and white Persian, He loves guns!

  • Empty Chamber indicator. Required for most matches.

  • What is the yellow thing you have in the bolt when your showing the sling?

    Thx for this video!

The only other source I had for putting one of these slings on was a picture of a Navy SEAL shooting an M14 from a beach.

    Also, this technique is boss!

    Keep up the good work!

    |m| >_< |m|

  • I try to keep the clips clipped on the outside of the sling...traditionally.

I dont know if you find it easier to have them on the inside

  • Excellent Video, So many shooters forget the value of a good sling.

  • It's a lot easier seeing the use of the sling demonstrated, rather than reading about it. Thanks!

  • Very helpful video, thanks

  • Never too soon to introduce you cat to the ar15. (:

  • @drbackjack hey there may come a time when its in a situation where it needs to use the AR15 to defend itself :D

  • That cat is funny haha. Great video, thanks for the help!

  • Excellent, informative video.

  • shit I'd have myself in a rat's nest in no time with that figure 8 on a sling. Good video

  • same here. i made due with an old AK sling. hehehe.

  • I love the glove in this videos. Where I can get one?

What kind of glove is ?

  • Probably a Champions Choice shooters mitt. About 20.00. They have a website.

  • Awesome video, I'm in USAF security forces. At work I carry an M4 with a tactical single point but off duty I shoot an M1A with an M1907. Truly one of the best slings I've used for target shooting.

  • Excellent!! very useful and informative. I guess the choice now is leather, canvas or nylon. Some of the "old timers" I have spoken to prefer the canvas as it does not get slippery in either wet or very hot conditions

  • Nice vid. What type of cat is he?

  • Blue Persian female. Great cat.

  • Just a suggestion, reverse your sling, with you frog on the bicep side and place both keepers on the sling on the bicep side. No need to have a keeper on the top half. It does more good on the bicep side keeping the sling from loosening and possibly sliding down your arm.

  • That is the way I am doing it, and I agree. Seems to be three basic ways to do this, with each method strongly supported. Keep changing until u=you find what works for you. I like the two keepers. Since I hold VERY tight, I got a sling from Creedmor that has a very wide cuff so it doesn't pinch the nerves in my arm. LOVE it. Has just the front swivel and cuff, so it cannot be used to "carry" the rifle. Easily adjustable and I use it for my 20" .223 and 18" .308 both.

  • Do you need to undo the bottom loop and latch it in itself if your sling is long enough? I put my bicep through the hole and still have enough slack that I don't need to undo the the bottom.

  • i think this is a parts gun. Been rebarrelled several times. Cover protects the blacking spray on the front post.

  • Who made your rifle and why is there a cover on your front sight post???

  • thank you!

    nice cat too

  • As a total newbie, greatly appreciated.

  • Great Video. We use it in the Marine Corps. One thing I don't think you mentioned that I would always tell Marines when I was a PMI. When you use the hasty sling, make sure it isn't so tight that it kants or cants (however the spelling) the rifle, which will through off your natural point of aim. OORAH

  • i love the cat! hahahahah

  • The jacket and mitt help with the sling pressure. You need it as tight as you can stand it and as high up over your bicept as you can manage.

  • Good instruction. Thanks for posting. My sling rides further down actually on my wrist below my glove. How did you get the sling to pull up higher on your hand.? The sling hurts so much I have stopped using it.

  • TSRA Team makes the trip every year. I get to go along.

  • Is that a Camp Perry national match armorer's inpection band I see on the trigger guard?

  • Thank you for these instructional videos. I really appreciate them. Do you reply to questions posted in the comments on your blog?

  • I do usually reply, sorry I missed this one for a bit.

  • Thanks for the video. This video assured me that I'm doing things correctly. I even shoot the sitting position in the same manner you do. I used to shoot cross-leggged, but I was getting too much pulse. I switched to cross-ankle and, voila, it's more stable and there is no annoying front sight post. I hope to become distinguished someday like you. I just reclassified Master this season after three years of HP.

  • Nose to charging handle is about right for sitting and prone. Offhand you end up a little further back.

  • Where are you placing your nose with respect to the charging handle? It is difficult to tell, but it looks like you are placing your nose to the left side of the charging handle which enables you to get your eye very close to the rear sight. Looks like your glasses are almost touching the sight. Is that what you are doing? Thanks for your reply.

  • I'm contemplating the purchase of a sling for my Ruger 10/22, and your video was a tremendous help. Thank you!

  • How do you break in a new sling? I've heard a recommendation to treat it with neats foot oil and hang it up with a weight dangling from it for a few days. I know others don't bother.

By the way, thanks for making and posting these videos.

  • Neet's Foot Oil makes them too slippery and stretchy. Forget the weight as well. I use a LITTLE bit of Mink Oil Paste- I put some on a rag and wipe it down. You can hardly tell anything was done. Repeat every month or so. You don't want them too soft. Saddle soap if you can't find Mink Paste but just a little bit. If it changes the color of the sling and makes it darker you are using WAY too much.

  • Thank you for your quick reply, as well as the interesting and helpful videos.

  • Blackfork,

Thank you so much! I purchased this sling and the way it came shipped was completely backwards and assembled in the wrong way. No configuration instructions, no pictures of assembly guides and no internet help. There was no way i could have figured this one out just by trial and error. Do you think it would be worth it to cut off the slack that hangs in the middle of the sling? it gets in the way a bit. Im looking forward to getting mine broken in asap. Thanks again you made my day!

  • Remember to go easy on the oil or mink paste. Some folks cut off the extra. My advice is to go easy on it. You may retire the sling to a rifle that needs it and it can always be folded over. Lots of folks do cut off the extra though. Your choice.

  • great vid, thanks. That's a mean-looking cat! :D

  • At least someone posting videos to this site knows what they're doing. Thanks!
