@r00kie104 : I don't know if madlib sampled this, but I think you didn't listen to dilla's track, cause he really sampled this track big time, you just have to listen better...
@r00kie104 .. It could be, but i'm not sure man, i've got a whole collection of dilla beats ..
I had it from my bro,, he went to the states in the D and he met a close friend of dilla who gave him some old beats from mid 90's and unreleased stuff, but a time ago someone posted a lot of those beats on Youtube, so maybe you can ask them.
LOVE this version! That being said, it still kinda makes me feel like I'm in the waiting room at the dentist, or in an elevator, or in a grocery store at 2 A.M. just cuz the style. But I STILL love it!
Dorothy Ashby was great. I think she even played on a few songs on some of Stevie Wonder's albums. Today, who would ever think of making a harp sound cool? One of the many things I love about 60s and 70s music, is how they took instruments typically used for classical, and made it fun and accessible for the rest of us... without it being boring. Thom Bell (Philly sound) did wonders with orchestrations. Music could be beautiful and have attitude. We could learn from these pioneers.
It wasn't "Windmills Of The Mind" that Kanye sampled for "Start The Show". It was "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". Same album though, "Dorothy's Harp"; so you're close in that sense. Do your research bro.
@es0puka I tried searchin' for that one on here; and couldn't find anything. If ya found out for sure what the actual title of the Busta track is, let me know. I'd love to hear it.
i can definitely here "Start the Show" in this song. Doesn't sound too much like "Here We Go". However that song was definitely sampled by AZ in "Gimme Yours".
She was so talented. Her songs are hidden in a lot of todays Underground/Indie Hip Hop. If she was alive today, she wold be amazed at how her songs are being used.
I stumbled onto Dorothy Ashby's music quite by accident about a year ago. I am hungry for any recording she ever made. Didja know she played harp on a lot of Earth, Wind & Fire
recordings in the '70's? But her jazz playing is where you can hear what an accomplished and nuanced player she was.
if i posted EVERY song that should be up here it would take forever. so i have to select a few gems from here and there. but i'm sure one of us "providers" will upload this song, too. just a question of time...
Flipmodes we can take it outside samples the Henry Mancini Version of Windmills not this one but nice try... There are many covers of this song that have been lifted for many classic joints........ But check the Henry Mancini version b4 u disagree..
