  • this song is killing me... its just too emotional and it really kills me

  • totally beautiful.

  • Super!!

  • You sure this is the sample to Start the Show. I thought it was Before I get to Phoenix @incrediblecHiller

  • I'm hearing Dorothy for the 1st time right now...sounds to me like a mixture of multiple kinds of soulful expression of the stars.

  • PACEWONNNN killledddd thisss on so many levels. Damn it really is just sped up on his beat this is the same exactttt thing.

  • @upinposting Awsome! I discovered Pacewon's "Locked" awhile ago. I agree with you!

  • also busta rhymes - we could take it outside

  • dilla sampled this too, im glad your dorothy i think its called

  • Comment removed

  • Dilla sampled this track too!, his track is called Roxanne Ashby.

    Listen at 0:48 till 0:58

    One..

  • @Miltangelo thanks for the heads up love this song, i didn't know dilla sampled it but that makes it even better. Song was dope to begin with.

  • @Miltangelo it also wasn't dilla it was madlib....

  • @r00kie104 : I don't know if madlib sampled this, but I think you didn't listen to dilla's track, cause he really sampled this track big time, you just have to listen better...

  • @Miltangelo hit me up on the mixtape/ album it's on, honestly really looking forward to it. can't find it.

  • @Miltangelo The 1996 What Up Doe Sessions ?

  • @r00kie104 .. It could be, but i'm not sure man, i've got a whole collection of dilla beats ..

I had it from my bro,, he went to the states in the D and he met a close friend of dilla who gave him some old beats from mid 90's and unreleased stuff, but a time ago someone posted a lot of those beats on Youtube, so maybe you can ask them.

    Peace

  • this song kinda reminds me of some nice old japanese movies where a lonely samurai wins a battle and leaves a girl alone :DDD

  • @TheYelloNess It's weird....cuz I can totally see that too.......... :D

  • pwetty

  • bananas!

  • @CLFBrooklyn

    turpentine!

  • also pacewon got this shit on lock

  • Unreal

  • Wow, that was superb!!!!

  • LOVE this version! That being said, it still kinda makes me feel like I'm in the waiting room at the dentist, or in an elevator, or in a grocery store at 2 A.M. just cuz the style. But I STILL love it!

  • Dorothy Ashby was great. I think she even played on a few songs on some of Stevie Wonder's albums. Today, who would ever think of making a harp sound cool? One of the many things I love about 60s and 70s music, is how they took instruments typically used for classical, and made it fun and accessible for the rest of us... without it being boring. Thom Bell (Philly sound) did wonders with orchestrations. Music could be beautiful and have attitude. We could learn from these pioneers.

  • superb*******

  • i think the originator to this song is buddy merill, could be wrong tho ..but i can not find it anywhere.strange...

  • Dilla flipped this.

  • is this the origanal?

  • @smartfkr What are you talking about?

  • Uh oh...this is funky.

  • How have I not heard of Dorothy Ashby until now? This is great

  • @dash132 she was a harpist. harpists don't get much publicity........

  • what album is this on?????

  • heart you Dorothy...

  • dilla flips this so marvelously!

  • It wasn't "Windmills Of The Mind" that Kanye sampled for "Start The Show". It was "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". Same album though, "Dorothy's Harp"; so you're close in that sense. Do your research bro.

  • @kic1222 ha you sounds so gay...

  • A timeless classic. Loved this song since I was practicall a toddler. This version ROCKS.

  • Also sampled by Busta. Think the name of the track was called 'We can take it outside'.

  • @es0puka I tried searchin' for that one on here; and couldn't find anything. If ya found out for sure what the actual title of the Busta track is, let me know. I'd love to hear it.

  • @Beethoveniac

  • this is amazing.

  • There aren't enough stars for me to properly rate this video.

  • what video? it is a single photo

  • Clearly I was referring to the music. The picture is not what's important here.

  • wortsport alter! peace an dexter und jaques!

  • begining sound like Gimmie yours by AZ

  • no thats minnie ripperton here we go

  • but cant you hear da harp sound?? dat plays before da beat drops.

    x

  • Rahzel "All I know" at 1:58.

Great lady, beautiful music. She would be proud (and amzed) if she heard what they have done with her music.

    RIP.

  • beautiful music ,dorothy

    your music never dead !!!

  • i love this song and one of my favorite song whoever sung this song i appreciated it..

  • Most famous vocal of Windmills is from Dusty Springfield on her landmark Dusty in Memphis LP.

  • dusty might be the most famous.... but kim weston has the best version.

  • Sick!

  • where can i dl this?

  • Madlib Sampled This?

  • she rips that harp

  • The beginning is also sampled.

  • She was so talented. Her songs are hidden in a lot of todays Underground/Indie Hip Hop. If she was alive today, she wold be amazed at how her songs are being used.

    She'd be very rich also!

  • Ashby died from cancer on April 13, 1996 in Santa Monica, California at age 54

  • where's the rahzel sample? Didnt catch it!

  • listen to about halfway towards the end, trust me it's there

  • Got it. 1.55!

  • That is some mad sampling techniques!!

  • Not only is this an amazing song. It has wonderful samples in it. Fucking SUPERB

  • And i think is kinda similar to the sample for We Could Take It Outside of the Flipmode Squad... Isn't it?? Great song by the way...

  • I have always loved this song but never knew who the artist was. Thanks for posting!!!

  • Oh I am so glad for Youtube!!! Thanks - she is wonderful!!

  • A strikingly beautiful sista!!!!!

  • great version of this classic song!!

  • rock on!

  • This is incredible! I have never even heard of this musician before, I am anxious to hear more!

  • check out ybz7yVrlsJw !!

  • HELP.

I have two files with this exact same son, but one says it is by Dorthy Ashby and the other one by Dusty Springfield.

    Any ideas?

  • If it's this exact same song, it is by Dorothy Ashby, of course. Or didn't i get your question?!?

Btw, if it contains the sample to Big L's Furious Anger" it is Springfield's Version!

  • @alessioaguirre It's by Michel Legrand

  • I stumbled onto Dorothy Ashby's music quite by accident about a year ago. I am hungry for any recording she ever made. Didja know she played harp on a lot of Earth, Wind & Fire

recordings in the '70's? But her jazz playing is where you can hear what an accomplished and nuanced player she was.

  • thank you, very much i do so enjoy the music

please keep it going from a music friend........djw

  • no valley of the dolls?????????????please

  • if i posted EVERY song that should be up here it would take forever. so i have to select a few gems from here and there. but i'm sure one of us "providers" will upload this song, too. just a question of time...

  • this is exquisite

  • Flipmodes we can take it outside samples the Henry Mancini Version of Windmills not this one but nice try... There are many covers of this song that have been lifted for many classic joints........ But check the Henry Mancini version b4 u disagree..

  • You're right. Actully I thought it was just replayed in the flipmode track. Thanks for the info :D

  • AMAZING~

  • this is superb...and so beautiful...

  • From 0.19 to 0.31 was used for flipmode squad s "We can take it outside"

  • Aaaaaaaaah! THANKS!

  • Wow. I never heard this before now. The instruments are so harmonious and deep.....I love it!
