I don't think either them had a common voice. When either of them sing in ensemble song I can easily pick out their voices. They're both great and have distinct sounds!

Why is everyone saying Mercedes is being a bitch when Santana's character is much worse! Look how she treats Damian's character and Fin.She even treats Brittany like shit sometimes. I actually really liked this performance and got really excited when I first saw it. All three girls have really great voices, and I love their acting. But they still can't touch Christina.
All of these comments regarding Santana as having the better voice and all are PISSING ME OFF! Honestly I really shouldn't contribute to this but it seems like no one is sticking up for Mercedes! I don't like the idea of comparing the cast because they are all amazing but I think the reason people aren't as big of a fan of Amber is because she's "common". There are a lot of black ( i don't mean that in an offending way ) soul singers out there with big voices . But santana has more of a unique voice. That's just what I think ,but in my opinion they are all equally as talented and deserve equal attention.
@alesswalker well I don't know, i guess i just think santana's deep-ish "husky" voice really stands out whereas I've seen a lot of Mercedes type wailing-the-big-notes voices.
There's no doubt that Mercedes has a better range than Santana, but I prefer to listen to Santana because her voice really connects with me. Sometimes the most successful singers are the ones that connect with their audience, not necessarily the ones that are technically more gifted. On the other hand, being able to capture people's attention with your performance is a gift in of itself. Some artists both connect and are technically gifted like Whitney and Mariah during their heydays.
It's hard to argue singing with a bunch of deaf people. You guys must be smoking some serious dope. Santana is cool and all, but she has no range, whatsoever as proven by her Amy Whinehouse rendition. Mercedes and Rachel blew her out of the water.

@sh8896a Actually that would not be true since in the River deep, Mountain high song, Santanna was on the high part. She has a great range and she soulful. Did you listen to valerie? I thought that one showed a good amount of range (The River Deep one did more though) :D

Mercedes isn't yelling intentionally. Jeezus you people are morons. She has a big voice it just comes out that way. Santana doesn't have as strong a voice but its very sultry.
@ukraineize That is the point of a Glee Club. It's a high school choir that also dances to the songs. It would not be realistic at all if they just had original songs on the show. Though I do agree that this cover was not the best.
This is an excellent example why no one should cover Christina's songs.. I don't care if they are good singers or not but this sounds so lame and not good at all. Leave these songs to the powerhouse Christina.

I don't like the idea of comparing the cast because they are all amazing but I think the reason people aren't as big of a fan of Amber is because she's "common". There are a lot of black ( i don't mean that in an offending way ) soul singers out there with big voices . But santana has more of a unique voice. That's just what I think ,but in my opinion they are all equally as talented and deserve equal attention.

There's no doubt that Mercedes has a better range than Santana, but I prefer to listen to Santana because her voice really connects with me. Sometimes the most successful singers are the ones that connect with their audience, not necessarily the ones that are technically more gifted. On the other hand, being able to capture people's attention with your performance is a gift in of itself. Some artists both connect and are technically gifted like Whitney and Mariah during their heydays.
