  • Well i mean he does have Asian powers.

  • Wow ! In my opinion factory standards for Musicman (2.4 mm for E and 2 mm for G) are a little bit to high and John play even higher ! His hands must be really strong cause i can't play as fast as him on string action like that (I've little higher than factrory spech too, but i haven't any buzzing even if I hard plucking strings it's clean sound. Of course i've Musicman StingRay).

  • He's action must be pretty high cause he's sound is quite clean without fret buzz even if he pluck his strings strong. Do youknow something about his setup preferences ?

  • @jbaranowski1990 *his, not "he's" ("he is"). I think this sound has fret buzz.

  • @jbaranowski1990 He sets it a little higher than factory standards. Search "Rig Rundown: Dream Theater's John Myung"

  • @jbaranowski1990 has sound has fret click out the ass. Note that click and buzz are completely different.

  • @jbaranowski1990 According to Wikipedia, JM likes his action low in the studio and high at live shows to make it "more physical."

  • This is real, the fact is basslines dont sound good soloed, just check out the Geddy or Steve Harris isolated lines, in the mix they will sound godly though.

  • @RuroiniStenchin I have to disagree. They sound great in a song, but alone they are still good.

  • @SgtZaqq

Yeah true, some of them sound really awesome soloed, like Red Barchetta and Eminence Front. The main this is alot of the clickity clack frequencies completely dissapear in the full band mix, bringing out the "intended sound"....

    Myung is a fantastic player.

  • It doesn't sound like Myung at all. The lines on Rock Band aren't the originals.

  • @thalesesteves so why they sound like the originals? Even singer voices?

  • @SgtZaqq Because you can emulate tones rather easily. and Vocals are the easiest tracks to isolated from a song. Vocals are the only original tracks on those games.

  • @InuSama95 easiest to isolate? I think not. Vocal track from song is just a clear vocal + backing vocal. Also guitar is the same as in the original, you need a pair of ears to understand it.

  • @InuSama95 sorry, but you're wrong in this one. The studios provide the original isolated tracks to the producers of rock band/guitar hero. I'm a huge metallica/DT fan and would definetly notice if the tracks were cover versions. Actually, the maiden songs in the first or second GH are covers. And they suck bad.

  • Hahahaha the ""king"" of bass... xD

  • Bass recording is just like that. It always sounds a little strange without anything. Im a bass player myself and hate listening to my recorded isolated tracks, because no matter how precise i try to sound, it's always weird and sloppy without drums. Sync it with the drums and it will sound GODLY.

  • @victorbicudo1

I absolutely hate listenin to my own isolated bass, sounds fine when I'm playing along with the track... On playback it sounds just.... So wrong.

  • this is not john myung lol this shit have mistakes, and john myung is GOD!!!!

  • @demiiii12 this is John Mying. Check other OFFICIAL bass tracks by DT - they have the same sound.

  • @SgtZaqq dude, that guys is not John Myung because i can play that music like him , and this song have mistakes

  • @demiiii12 so? It's the fact. He plays just like that. Or DT posted fake tracks?

  • @SgtZaqq he does not play likke that lol

  • @demiiii12 proof or GTFO

  • @demiiii12 Where are there mistakes? Please point them out.

  • sounds like his amps peaking a bit on his low b string

  • @jwhiteyoung John recorded this direct into the mixing desk or only through a pre-amp, i think it's rather gainy to get that grindy driven sound so it's probably singal clipping a bit

  • THIS ISNT MYUNG U GOON

  • Pegada animal !

  • If anyone here has ever recorded on an album they'd know that this is what an isolated track sounds like. When dealing with the mix and production, the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts.

  • You know, it really can be him.... I play Bass as well and I tell you if you wanna keep up with your other bandmate's speed (at this speed xD) the bass will sound kind of floppy because of the thickness of the strings, also keep in mind he probably tuned it down a bit to play along JP's guitar more easily. Apart from that I can also hear that he uses a bit of distortion, so this may also be a reason for this track being as it is.

  • @thepaifulpain2 no, this should be standard tuning. He plays low D only few times here, and it needs standard tuned 5 string... But agreed about speed, speed finger plucking often sounds not so good.

  • @SgtZaqq Low "D"? He plays a 6-string, which would be a low "B" in standard tuning.

  • @kc8ntp I mean low D note. Yes, it's 3rd on B string.

  • @SgtZaqq I got ya, now.

  • @kc8ntp btw, I meant "3rd fret", my bad.

  • @thepaifulpain2 He could also be relying on the drums to fill in the rest of the rhythm. Us bassist (as you would know) rely on this technique quite a bit. We also fill holes for the drums, too. This isolated bass track means nothing.

  • @kc8ntp I do know that, of course, but you know the two are kind of tied up togehter in this song, JM is doing on the bass the same as JP on the guitar. Lots of bassists tend to do that as well especially in metal....I'm listening to the track played along the song as I write this, give it a try and you will notice xDDD

  • shit! this is bass cover

  • I hate getting into this, but I'm gonna say it's not the original track. if you watch the video named Dream Theater- Constant Motion (Album Version) the bass starts about 3 seconds earlier in that video compared to this one but you'll notice at 0:58, John holds a note for a little longer than usual, where there is no hold at 1:01 or a little earlier of later when there should be in this video.

  • @mr6stringbassist it starts earlier because I ripped this track from Rock Band. Almost every song there sounds from hi-hat hits, so real song starts a few seconds later.

  • lol i see a lot of stupid people here... playing definitely sounds bad and myung is overrated overall...

  • Hahahaha, this is pure shit!

Almost a good bass cover of Constant Motion.

  • @Hexagesta yeah, bass cover

    by John Myung

  • i am not sure that there are no mistakes and that the playing in the original song is this!! they playing is not perfect!! it is as if I would play song!! i think!! but again i can't be sure!!

  • @Tharladyn7 Where are there any mistakes?

listen to clips of John playing, like his progressive bass concepts video, it's definately him!

  • Thanks for uploading this :D

  • a lot of mistakes, he's not myung

  • @TukiOpeth Nice try to get thumbs up.

  • @TukiOpeth There are no mistakes i'm almost certain. I'm 95% sure the is the master track

  • amazing bass playing!

it's not fake, guys. you can check out the panic attack bass track in my channel, and the style of playing is the same

  • Fucking amazing!

  • yep this is mixing

u can't isolate a track and listen as a solo

  • @gearlabdoc Do you know what mixing means? This is the actual isolated bass master track by John Myung from the record.

  • John gets in the zone and really pounds the bass! Epic playing and tone

  • It's real. In the Rock Band game, all tracks are in the .OGG audio format. Being that it was ripped, downloaded, and uploaded, I'm sure that the sound quality might have deteriorated a bit.

To the people who call it fake, did you witness JM record this?

  • I would Jizz on this guys tits if he had any.

  • I don't see what the problem is. Sounds fine to me. Heavy bass guitar always sounds a little bit flabby at the lower end of its range. The attack is kinda... mushy? I can't think of a good adjective, but you know what I mean. There's certainly nothing wrong with the playing.

  • the B string, as many people are to ignorant to understand, is very lose, even in standard tuning, so you will naturally get a bit of a buzz

  • @bassenigma Myung doesn't use it in this song.

  • @SgtZaqq yes he does actually

the part at 1:01 and the other parts that are the same as it are played on the b string

this song is in standard tuning and to get to that low D you have to use the b string

  • @vectron12 ah, right, haven't noticed that. But it's only a one D note in a riff ;)

  • @SgtZaqq true

this song can be played without it which is what im trying to do

  • @vectron12 with dropped D?

  • @SgtZaqq no i either play the d an octave above or just ignore it altogether

i havent decided which sound better yet

  • @vectron12 that's wrong.

  • @SgtZaqq i dont have a 5 string...

  • @vectron12 so play in dropped D :|

  • @SgtZaqq the intro riff would actually be impossible if i did that

  • Comment removed

  • I dont think thats john i do understand mixing recording etc ive been following john since long enough to know its not him that bassist its not as consistent as john im sorry!

  • @jazzmelodicminor77 so why all other isolated bass tracks are the same?

  • @jazzmelodicminor77 oh, I mean other TRACKS, not only bass.

  • This is not fake. JM also recoreded sloppy BC&SL, ADTOE(listen other isolated bass tracks!). JM is not perfect and this fact is common to almost great bassists.

  • 3:45 : This part should be effected with flanger, chorus, delay or wth Myung has used...Anyway, nice interpretation dude, you play very well! :)

  • @Dariusgsr180 that's not an interpretation. That supposed to be an original DT master track from an album.

  • @SgtZaqq Well, it really DOESN'T sound like Myung's track for what did i just say...It misses in fx in the bridge before the solo...That was one of the parts that Northfield enjoyed the most adding tricking shit xD

  • @Dariusgsr180 Northfield? What is that? Why it doesn't sound like Myung's track? Sloppy playing again?

  • @SgtZaqq PAUL Northfield mixed the whole album. ;) I Mentioned him when it came to talk about effects....

  • @SgtZaqq Northfield was the engineer for Systematic Chaos.

  • @Dariusgsr180 perhaps he put in the effects later.

  • @mauz3496 "This song featured in Rock Band game. Someone ripped master tracks from game and posted them" This is supposed to be the video description. So you think that is it possible to take the bass track without fx? Even from the mastered song?

  • No es John Myung u.u

conosco su forma de tocar, y hay suena muy debil la presion que con los dedos al tocar, El es un poco más rudo si no lo han notado ;)

soy un fiel seguidor de el *-*

  • guys, it's mixing, that's what sounds best in the mix. Try this, go on Audacity, put the original Constant Motion in it, then layer this on top with a lower volume. It will sound perfect. now shut shut the fuck up, I like the tone anyway

  • After listening to it for a few mins I realised that this could not be Myung, he wouldn't be heard dead playing like this

  • if Myung ever did lay a track that sounded this crappy Petrucci and Portnoy would kick his ass..... After they stopped laughing of course

  • @wish2bmahal you know, a perfect drum, vocal, bass, guitar and keyboard track doesn't necessary sound good produced together.. I don't know if this track is fake, but a lot bass tracks sounds like this, every track on BC&SL sounded like it

  • pinche estupido

  • This is from the DT stems, each instrument track offered with the album. Sounds weard but true.

  • The dont always feature the real track in Rock Band or Guitar hero, maybe its a cover..

  • @arcanumi the what?

  • GOD is a BONGO !

  • My bad 6 string

  • Bongo 5 string

  • Fake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The tone is pretty similar, but it doesn't sound like John's playing.

  • fake, fake and fake

this sound like the ass. sometimes it's out of time

  • @osckar Yeah my friend, listen to Black Clouds the official release, you'll notice the samething. What is fake about Myung is the legend that he's the best drummer of the world. He's just well trained, lasting to be creative fasthest than 15 years.

  • @borgesbacobass best drummer?

  • @SgtZaqq bassist... a fair mistake...

  • @borgesbacobass funny mistake ;)

  • i have my doubts. myung and petrucci didn't practice 6 hours a day while at college to play like this

  • @muso123456 didn't know petrucci played the bass..

  • @Blitzbot they had an agreement at college to both practice 6 hours a day

  • @muso123456 and? you mentioned Petrucci's name.. Those 6 hours were worthy for him

  • how'd you get this bass track?

  • @ikeeln00bz read the description

  • @SgtZaqq goootcha

  • Real or not... it still sounds pretty stinking awesome!

  • @MrMyungFan not very awesome, IMO. "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" isolated bass lines sound really freakin awesome!

  • @SgtZaqq Eeeew they were terrible!! Myung's worst bass sound ever on that album. Check out the bass stem of On The Backs Of Angels from the new album, it's at least 7 times better...

  • @SgtZaqq I think you're freaking deaf.

  • @borgesbacobass no you.

  • That Bongo is Wicked!! I think It's unique sound and potential are always evident when listening to Myung, as well as, Morgensteen, and Levin play them.

  • Hell yeah! 10000 views!

  • This is very very sloppy 0:18- 0:20 was quite bad, 0:26 as well, and there are more examples, I still think he is an incredible player, but it was quite sloppy.

  • Lol @ people not believing this is real due to the sloppy performance. Go listen to the Black Clouds / Silver Linings bass stems officially released from the band and you'll quickly believe this particular YouTube video's legitimacy.

  • Sorry, this is not John Myung. It sounds like a music man, but out of time and non-consitent finger technique.

  • fake

  • am i the only one that thinks this isnt the real john myung?

just listen to the recording and you'd see that not only this isnt his sound, some of the parts are diffrent from the original, and he has some metalic sounds from when he plays REALLY hard that arent here in the same place as they are in the original.

the more you listen to it, you totally see its fake.

    people are pathetic~_~

  • @TheBassMan533 I really don't is it 100% real. But what is the point of using fake bass line along with original guitar and vocal tracks? I don't say about drums and keyboards, because I don't listen them to say are they right or not.

  • @TheBassMan533 This is the exact sound from his Yamaha bass, and effects pedals.

  • No, it's not Myung. Dream Theater is professional band and I really don't believe they would be satisfied with this take. It's not even in time with the metronome at some points.

  • @DreamTheater1994 It happened to be his best take probably, so they rolled with it. It fits perfectly in the song though. So it works. Tah dah!

  • Pretty sloppy...no wonder he's so low in the mix...such a pity, he used to be my bass hero

  • @Got3n don't draw conclusions after listening to this one bass line. JM is pretty cool bassist, only thing I don't like with him is his sound in mix: too quiet.

  • @SgtZaqq Well he's right though, it's quite sloppy, you certain you didn't just play this?

  • @Sproeikoei I hardly can play something like Paranoid by Black Sabbath.

  • ITT: Nobody fucking understands producing/mixing.

  • @Viibrate

This is not a fucking thread.

  • Comment removed

  • @Viibrate Damn right. This is so him. And this track fucking rocks, by the way

  • @Viibrate THANKYOU! Ffs, "oooh its not myung, even though it's clearly got no effects and extra editing that's usually done to every instrument in the recording process waaaa!"

  • How did you come by this track? =)

  • @JiMxtreme I found it on web with other master tracks for this song (guitar, drums, keyboards, etc).

  • @SgtZaqq So, just for this song? Oh well, it would be interesting to listen to some of the other isolated bass parts on Systematic Chaos or other albums...

  • @JiMxtreme this song was featured in Rock Band game. Someone ripped master tracks from game and posted them. I found them and uploaded this bass line. You can check other master tracks from Rock Band I posted (Rush songs, etc).

  • never saw a picture of John Myung with a 6 string Music Man Bongo. looks good! always thought he only played Yamaha basses...

  • @Basstard22 Actually, lately, 90% of the new songs he uses ErnieBall Bongo Six :)

  • @Basstard22

he switched to Music Man bongos in 2007 iirc

  • @Meteorotaki Thanks for the info! I'm not really into the stuff of Dream Theater, so i was just wondering how long he's been using the Bongo. Did he get any signature models so far?

  • @Basstard22

Music Man developped the bongo 6 because John asked them to, but they don't do any signature basses. He was using the bongo 5 in the meanwhile

  • @Meteorotaki I saw him once with a Bongo 5 in Sterling Silver finish if I'm right, but still cool he asked for a 6 string version. So if John hadn't asked for a 6 string Bongo, Music Man probably never made it?

  • coz timing is all over the place

  • Lol @ people calling it fake. Its a bass playing the notes to the song

  • I don't know why, but is a fake.. This can't be Myung.. In fact, the original track ends at 6 minutes and 53 seconds exactly, and your version, or whoever it is, at 6,57.. So is not the original isolated bass track, I think there's not such a thing for this song..

In the other hand, the bass line starts (according to the studio version) at 0:08, not at 0:11.. NICE JOB ANYWAY.. SINCERELY..

  • @147pablox because master tracks contains some hi hat hits in start. You know TOOM TOOM TOOM-TOOM-TOOM and song starts. In fact even the same song can have different lengths in computer format.

  • @SgtZaqq Thank you so much for sharing this mate

  • @147pablox You won't be fed here troll, get out!

  • @147pablox

    not fake.

  • Comment removed

  • FAKE

  • @147pablox why?

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, could you upload the Dark Eternal Night ...! Please that would be awesome...! PLEASE PLEASE

  • @XaviOrtega1 no I can't.

  • Why? In the name of God?

  • because I took this bass line from Rock Band song. There is only this song there.

  • @SgtZaqq even on rock band it isnt John Myung playing the track

  • @damienrouse do you have a proof?

  • @SgtZaqq Sure buddy, watch the bonus footage on the game... extra content etc..

I dont know who exactly does it for rock band but for guitar hero it was guitarist Marcus Henderson

and company.. It spawned him a signature guitar with Epiphone called the Apparition( Cheap Chinese

made crap).. But yeah check it out.. JMX is a way cleaner bassist than what you hear on this recording..

    It is cool though man

  • @damienrouse Yeah, if this is from Rock Band, it is the master track, and it is John Myung playing. I have a lot of the bass master tracks from that game. Most isolated basslines aren't as clean as you think they sound. The guitar, drums and vocals over bass in a song make it sound cleaner than it actually is.

  • @damienrouse Bullshit. Its John Myung playing on the track. Stop spewing nonsense.

  • @charlesandhisworld LOL Have it your own ignorant ass way then.. I dont give a shit if you dont know your ass from a hole in ground.. Your probably 15 years old anyway

  • @damienrouse you mad, bro?
