  • Regarding a "note over her head': she's listening to the intonation of the high note. As for posture: it's better to listen the music with your eyes closed because a classical musician creates MUSIC, not a SHOW. If you need a show then go to a theater, rock concert or cinema.

  • bravo

  • Amazing performance... loved it!!

  • check 1:03!

seems she`s looking for the note over her head

  • in response to some of these comments, any good flutist would know that it's all a matter of how the flute is aligned to your head, not so much the body position. i know many great flutists that don't hold their flute perfectly straight... (who does anyway?), myself included. if someone's sound is affected from their body position, THEN you can criticize their posture.

  • @pessimystica Yeah, I agree. I don't hold me flute perfectly straight. I tilt it slightly. It's simply a matter of alignment between the embouchure hole and your lips.

  • "Merry Matsu" lol

  • just so you know it's spelt muramatsu.

i love them too, i have one and i think it's amazing... !

sankyo's are very good too, i used to have one myself. it's all about personal taste when it comes to buying yourself a flute, not what other people think.

  • Good job! Loved it and thanks for sharing! :-)

    Take care!

  • This is wonderful playing and those of you that think anything different, I don't believe this woman would have her doctorate if she was a "bad" player - they just don't have that. I slouch a little when I play, but that's because of a spinal disorder. Watch her active breathing video and you'll see it helps to compensate for our "less than perfect" posture.

  • Wow! Another clever composition/piece stunningly performed! Great follow up to the Ibert - may there be more gratitude than envy.........

  • 1 word.

    Exccellent!(:

  • Beautiful job, Nina!! A fabulous performance! I like your Burkart better, though. :)

  • LOVED IT!

  • Very nice job Nina. Love the song.

  • Very very nice!

  • Beautiful, Nina!

  • Great! Perhaps, I will be able to do like that, someday.

  • This song is relaxing.

  • Very nice vibrato! I love your performances!! keep going!! xxx

p.s. Could you have your stand a bit higher? i mean that would be better for you ... you should stand straight and project well so... just a suggestion! :)

  • You're right. She does have a tendency to slouch sometimes, but she's absolutely correct in leaving her stand at that height. Countless musicians do so-- you should see cellist stands and see how low and away they are from the player!

Putting the stand too high creates a barrier between the audience and the musician, inhibiting the connection we try to make with our audience. Granted, she does have a bad habit of slouching, but it's possible to play w/o slouching with the stand that low. :)

  • If you wanna see someone slouch, check out Fenwick Smith. He plays almost completely sideways when I saw him in recital...but what a gorgeous sound he has.

  • Excellent!

  • Oh yah, and thats not a piccolo Nina =)

  • too many people dont move wile they play. You do, and its very fun to watch!

  • i love how you play the flute with passion.and thanks for sending this song to my mail.:)

  • Nice performance again.

I wish people would stop using the word flautist.

Flutist is so clean sounding and besides; we don't play the flaute. I always picture an old lady with pink hair, a Cadillac and French poodle using the word flautist with a snobbish accent.

Even Galway says flutist is the preferred term. Nina, will you join my campaign to stomp out that word?

  • No,

    the correct term for those of us who beat ourselves over the head with a nickel, sterling, gold or wooden pipe because it feels so good when we stop is "Joueurs de Flute"!! (If you don't believe me, just ask M. Roussel!) :-}

  • Ugh, I'm offended. I think Flautist is more sophistacated, but I can understand how you also think it's snobby. I just disagree.

  • You might want to spend more time learning how to play the flute and less time getting all offended.

Misspelling sophisticated does not make you seem all that sophisticated.

  • Excuse me? I am a very fine Flute player and a SOPHISTICATED one at that. Who are you to call me out like that in the first place? I was having a casual conversation with another member of Youtube. There was no cause to abruptly call me out; in which case, you are the one who doesnt seem all that sophisticated.

  • I guess you got a thin skin and no sense of humor too. Must be you I saw with that old lady in the Caddy. I didn't call you out; get real. I guess the irony of your misspelling escapes you too.

Sure, you're great on flute...no need to study phrasing or intonation...you're all set!

    What a cry baby.

  • Wat evs

  • Wow. You and that tubonianflute person were facing off on YouTube!!! I have never seen that before. You must see that you guys were being retarded and that you should have complimented Nina on her wonderful performance. I play flute too and as long as the person enjoys it, it shouldn't matter. Don't make a big deal off of other peoples' comments.

  • Wow? Expressing opinions is retarded now?

    Try to follow along Sweetie Pie;

I did compliment her right off the bat at my first post.

See that you watch LOST; So, do you wish they all got along better on the island? Love the show but sure is a lot of conflict there! Guess you only like it in fiction? Enjoy.

  • stop that you two . why is it all us flute players have to treat each other like crap. stereotypes about us are true we blackstab and talk horrible of the ppl from our sections. tisk tisk. this is a nice video and Nina probably doesnt want all us pickin at each other. do that on each others comment walls not the video. maybe use some constructive critizism(i cant spell) and keep the nasties to yourselves.

  • Since you asked...

  • AGREED. Most any serious flutist uses "Flutist", but there's nothing WRONG with "Flautist".What I can't stand though is when non-musicians say, "Don't you mean "FLAUTIST"? Like the thousands and thousands of dollars I am in debt for over studying the flute in a school of music leaves me unable to determine what to call myself as a musician. Call it whatever, but we just don't need to be "corrected" by non-musicians,do we FLUTISTS? also suggest joining the Youtube Group:Flutist not Flautist, hehe

  • Would you be shocked if I said this performance was amazing? haha. When I see you perform, it makes me want to improve some more.

  • Thanks for this. I have had some bad experiences accompanying this piece with flautists who can't master the difficult rhythms. Next time it comes along, I shall direct the flautist to watch your video!

  • Nina not being a flautist myself, I find your performances all-the-more mysterious and beautiful. And I like your lessons because of the general musicianship one can pick up and apply to any instrument.

Does the gold have an effect on the timbre?

  • Q..Does the gold have an effect on the timbre?

A.. Flutes do sound different when made from either gold ,silver wood etc, but can anyone tell the difference what there made from by ear alone? Well James Galway can't!I know some people like to think they can!

  • A beautiful performance, and as always you produce the most amazing tone! But I have to say, even though this 5K gold flute sounds lovely, I think your Burkhart flute is still far and away one of the best sounds I've ever heard from any flute. Thanks for these great performances, Nina!

  • Hi Nina! Thanks a ton for this awesome performance. The soundness is perfect.

    I'll keep practicing. Bye!

  • WOW!!! 5K gold!!! It looks great and sounds great too!!
