There is quite a bit of difference. Surgeons go to school in order to learn about the human anatomy. And their purpose is to perform surgeries and save a life.
Not everyone is capable of performing a surgery.
Contrarily, any person has the capability to torture another human being. It just takes a very shameful person to actually do it. The act is just that, you torture another person.
Its not something you want to believe, that our own security agencies would succumb to these methods.

Well, from what I've studied, the situation in Afghanistan, has gone on for a number of decades. Its not just the US that is involved, there was Russia, and now there are other groups (taliban, al-qaida).
This situation got out of hand, and now everyone thinks everyone is their enemy.
I just want to believe, and you may call it normative thinking, since we spend so much money our military (more than all others nations on earth combined), we wouldn't Have to succumb to torture.

Well, there were hundreds of gitmo detainees that were not found of any crime.
And torturing is illegal, not to be subjugated to the fact that it is immoral and unethical.
If you look at some of the pictures taken of the gitmo detainees.. and you see the soldiers humiliating them, and using so many torture tactics... its disgusting.
They do the same thing in Israel, against many children. Waterboarding children is considered "Moderate" physical torture. And this country is our ally.

This was a very good movie. I believe it was unsuccessful, though. People didn't want to see movies about difficult, war-related (whether actual war or anti-terrorism) subjects.
To make things worse, people who where victims of the C.I.A rendition program, flown to black site prisons and tortured, but was later proven innocent, can't even get restitution from the government. Their cases gets thrown out of court on the grounds of "National Security"

There is quite a bit of difference. Surgeons go to school in order to learn about the human anatomy. And their purpose is to perform surgeries and save a life.
Not everyone is capable of performing a surgery.
Contrarily, any person has the capability to torture another human being. It just takes a very shameful person to actually do it. The act is just that, you torture another person.
Its not something you want to believe, that our own security agencies would succumb to these methods.

Well, from what I've studied, the situation in Afghanistan, has gone on for a number of decades. Its not just the US that is involved, there was Russia, and now there are other groups (taliban, al-qaida).
This situation got out of hand, and now everyone thinks everyone is their enemy.

Well, there were hundreds of gitmo detainees that were not found of any crime.
And torturing is illegal, not to be subjugated to the fact that it is immoral and unethical.
If you look at some of the pictures taken of the gitmo detainees.. and you see the soldiers humiliating them, and using so many torture tactics... its disgusting.
They do the same thing in Israel, against many children. Waterboarding children is considered "Moderate" physical torture. And this country is our ally.

I think this is a non issue. I consider matters like the 1918 flu pandemic and the deaths of 25 million Chinese in WW2 to be of more importance. People like you are far too pampered.

egkg. It has nothing to do with being an American. It is a disagreement between you and me. As Stalin said, one person being killed is a tragedy. A million being killed is a statistic. That was the point of the film. It showed that there are still heroines in Washington like the Senator portrayed by Meryl Streep. They see the big picture and is why the run things and we don't. Throughout the history of human kind we've seen the rise and fall of this so called "empires" (Rome, Bizantine, Ottoman, Spanish, Napoleonic, Prussian, German, British, Russian, Holy Roman, The Soviets). I think we should just ignore them and let them follow their natural course. Racism, religious fanatism, self-glorification and domestic poverty along with a rampant international isolation will eventualy take it's toll on them. History always repeats itself.

It is a modern approach designed to encourage an enemy to give up his evil plans to the American people. Countless American lives have been saved due to the heroism of the CIA patriots. No. Of course not. Citizens should always be protected, even the brown haired and brown eyed. In this case, a beautiful very young blond wife who is also an American Citizen was involved.
In the end, though you have to remember that the American leader played by Meryl Streep was a high value American. The CIA people are also high value Americans. It was his wife, a low value American against many high value Americans. The Constitution is there to protect the American people.

1966. Most American people are patriotic. They are prepared to lay down their lives for the US flag. No other country has patriots like America has. The greatest service Americans can do for the country is to sacrifice personal likes and dislikes for their country. If that means renditioning enemies, then patriotic Americans will be pleased to do it. As a US General said, it is better to kill a thousand enemies than have one American put in harm's way.
