  • Kate Bush is the queen of my universe

I would serve for her highness

  • where the hell are the go-go's? god bless and beyond the valley kick ass!!!!!!

  • Nice list...Love Patti Smith and Nina Hagen (most people are like "wtf??!" if I show them a clip of Nina.

Would have included kick ass 70s funk diva Betty Davis though..

  • SHAME ON YOU for not including the go-go's!!!!

  • Dolores, End of the story.

  • I'd forget to mention Suzanne Vega, PJ Harvey, Alanis Morrisette, and Gwen Stefani!

  • Uhm where's Chrissy Hind of the Pretenders?!

  • Everything is perfect in this video. the only thing I can't quite deal with is that lead singer of the Cranberries. She sounds a bit like a rip off of Sinead O'Connor and I can't fathom her anti-abortion rights for women stance. Siouxsie of course is the best.

  • Johnette Napolitano♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • Kate could have been the UK's Madonna...but she was never greedy, and eventually she proved to be bigger than that.

  • love the list... what about chrissie hynde, holly beth vincent, grace slick, or joan jett? theyre some of my faves!

  • Thanks for mentioning Lene. She's probably the most underappreciated of them all.

  • after seeing this, i definately agree that all of these chicks rock. i am now raising my right hand in a fist, and then extending my index finger and pinky simultaneously.

  • As long a Dolores is in there...you did a fantastic list

  • Lydia Lunch, Exene Cervenka

  • Did I miss Chrissie Hynde?

  • good list but nina hagen has to go.... she sucked ass even for back then

  • very good list but no janis.....no grace ...they revolutionized music! come on man

  • Gotta expand to Sinead

  • very nice list but i would have pulled the ol' switcheroo on a few of them. although i love lene lovich, nina hagen, blondie, and siouxsie

  • Im shocked at how big the crown is for The Cranberries. Was this in Usa?

  • @XXgav123xx no... that is probably one of the biggest crowds ever held by a single band...It's in france...get this...a non-english speaking country. Dolores sells out like that in shows around the world in every non-english speaking country, just about. She sold out in the u.s. also starting her 2009 tour. not bad for people who have forgotten who she was and being blackballed by the big u.s. based record companies

  • annie lennow and siouxsie sioux.........=)

  • what about the the runaways (joan jett/ lita ford)?

  • Now there is Goldfrapp. She's pretty good in my opinion !

  • Johnette Napolitano & Siouxsie for the win!!!!!

Love Kate Bush and Patti to though :)

  • All excellent and important.......what do you

    think of Cyndi Lauper?

  • I'm happy to say I've heard them all, although for a couple (Nina Hagen, Johnette Napolitano) I know nothing more than a couple of songs.

I'm surprised Joan Jett isn't on the list, but your list, your picks :)

  • That first one can't sing.

  • @Xethavosh - she is making sounds with her voice over music, therefore she can. There is no single objective standard for singing. Some people value technique over content. I, for one, never thought Celine Dion (in English) or Whitney Houston were good singers, as I never believed a word they sang - but I wouldn't say they 'couldn't' sing - just that I would rather not listen. :)

  • Also: Laurie Anderson, Suzy Quatro, Joni Mitchell.

  • Never heard of the Waittresses, but we've got cd's of all the other ones. Good taste!

  • Lee Aaron, Alanis Morissette, Melissa Etheridge, Janis Ian, Bonnie Raitt, Anouk, Tanita Tikaram. Ladies who can sing and play and know they're the boss.

  • Love love love that Patti Smith song :)

Great choices Nellie, made me tap my feet muchly :D

  • Ah and the Lene Lovich..

"I'm having so much fun, my lucky number's one.."

    Classic :D

  • some ace choices there m8

  • Lene Lovich!!!

gwen stefani wishes she was Lene.

before the video began i predicted a Pretenders entry. foiled!

  • I'm familiar with most of these incredible artists!

If you like them you should check out Regina Spektor.. she does some amazing things with her voice.

    Yours,

    Jessica

  • Cool stuff Nellie!

That was a great selection of rocking ladies. My musical education continues.

Now if you will excuse me, I must bounce!

  • i'm feeling pretty pleased with myself for knowing seven of the ten - i'll have to look into

Nina Hagen, Johnette Napolitano and lene Lovich

My favourite is probably dancing barefoot - but i remember hearing zombie when i was little and getting really choked up.

And who doesn't like blondie :)

  • Tori Amos?

  • No Dusty Springfield????????

    That is criminal nelliediddle!

  • martha davis from the motels and chrissie hinde from pretenders! ciao!

  • Some great selections Nellie. I was always in awe of/repulsed by Patti Smith because she was photographed showing hairy armpits!! Lene Lovich - shame she only had one hit. Do you remember 'Promises' who sang 'Baby it's You' - the girl with the mullet and the braces (and the rest!). They were Canadian I think

  • no pat benatar? for shame ;)

  • I never like Pat... sorry :/

Although will gladly admit she made a good imapct on the music industry as far as women are concerned

  • did you also get a bunch of things saying like half a dozen companies own your shit, because my video is blocked in germany...

  • Great list! I'd have to include a few more though (no way I could keep it at ten).

  • I would too.. but couldn't LOL

I wanted to give enough of each song that you got the feel for it

  • @corkbender , make a two parter then.

  • @ultimatemegadeath I would, except that I didn't make the video.

  • OMG KATE BUSH FTW. <3<3<3<3<3<3 She's sooo beautiful. Loved her since I was a kid.

  • I was jut talking with the hubby saying WHAT is she doing now?

  • I think she came out with an album in 2005. Otherwise, I have no idea what she's doing.

  • I would like to add someone who probably inspired your entire list -

    Grace Slick

  • It's been really interesting to see how much I have in common musically with my favorite YT folk.

  • I tried but amerika silenced me. They censored my video.

  • I saw that made me sad :(

  • That's an interesting collection. Some were just awesomely weird.

  • Great collection!

Out of curiosity, what do you think of Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls?

  • I LIKE he Dresden Dolls. The first time I saw them they reminded me of all the stuff I like way back when :D

  • I think you should have picked wuthering heights by kate bush instead.

  • meh never liked that one as much.

BTW I HATED the book... I mean really hated it

song's ok but The dreaming is my fave

  • I am really enjoying everyone's music montages today. Awesome selections, Nellie!

  • thanks Debbi I;ve been enjoying what people are showing too...although I think I lived in different part of the 80's than a lot of people

  • What no shakespear's sister?

  • I had 10 MIN DAMN IT!

    ROFLMAO

  • great selection, you maybe interested to hear that The Cranberries are reforming... so looking forward to see what comes out

  • Should be interesting!

  • dancing barefoot is a fucking TUNE!!!

  • YES tis brilliant as is our Patti

  • I was singing along with pretty much the whole thing :) LOVE IT!!

  • I keep having the same experience

  • Patti - The Godmother!

I'd just like to give a little shout-out to Exene Cervenka of X.

  • Indeed I only had 10 min !!!

  • OH... Nellie.. I LOVE The Dreaming...The reast of the seleiction, Siouxsie, Nina Hagen, Eurythmics etc.. loved. it...

The Waitresses is a new one to me,

  • The dreaming is one of the pivotal albums in my life :D

  • Yeahaaaa!! I knew 6 of them !! ^^)

  • You get a gold star!!!

  • What, no Grace Slick?

  • Good point! It's tough when you do just 10 and Nellie is *such* a youngster!

  • Ya know what I wanted Grace in here , but my Fave song of her is SO Obscure ( the apple stretching) and I was so limited in time :/

  • Oh come on. You weren't even *born* when Grace sang that song! :)

  • Very cool! I know who they all are.. Of course I think I am old enough to know them all.. :)

  • You can come to my party then!

  • cool! I'll be there with my bangle bracelets, tight jeans, concert shirts, jean jacket, friendship pins. Half a can of aquanet in my hair (big hair) Painted face and hoop earings:)
