Apple will continuously blame AT&T, whether it's their fault or not because AT&T won't point the finger back. AT&T doesn't want to upset Apple. Apple is also having problems with their iTunes security. Twice. They can't blame AT&T for that one. Apple is now a target for hackers and Apple has to step it up or look like a villain.
@arithehun It's not Apple's fault. Think about your logic there, since it's AT&T in specific which had created this "security breach". Why haven't the iPad users in OTHER countries suffered from the same problem? In the U.K., Vodafone is the data-server, if I am not mistaken, and they have not reported any security breach on their iPads...
Oooo an email address. Seriously, its not a huge deal. Plus its AT&T specific and has already been patched, probably before the news of it broke. Not Apple's responsibility. AT&T made the verification/account service and its up to them to make it secure.
@mikedeezy13x yeah? not sure why you said that. I thought what I said was more true to the actual story. The news is very "stabby" and sensational lately and it worries me that people are getting put off of something from bad journalism, to be honest. Theres not a lot of actual truth these days, just shotgun blogging with no substance.
hahahahah i love looking at all the apple fanboys comments in the comment section: "ITS NOT APPLES FAULT, THEY CANT DO ANYTHING WRONG, ITS ALL ATAT!!!!1
Anyway, I think it's AT&T's fault. I think that 1) this affects the US ONLY and 2) Apple has NO responsibility whatsoever in the personal information. I'm sure that when AT&T servers transfer the info to Apple's servers (that's probably where the hackers got access to em), the transfer protocol is probably in AT&T's certificate.
@DiClivity What you said sounds more like wishful thinking than reality... of course people have hacked into their servers. However, AT&T has gotten very stupid lately and I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T has any blame on this. Apple on the other hand should have taken over the security process instead of letting AT&T do the work there... but whatever... both have the blame... but the canon is on AT&T's side.
lol why is this news? This is what happens all over the world daily. These hackers just did not want money it seems. Most of the times the hackers just get paid and no1 knows anything ;) I know this because.
apple thinks they are untouchable .... idiots apparently their marketing department didn't only convinced (lied) their customers that they are haker proof but apperently they also convinced their programming department that they are...
Who's fault? The Hackers! They should be put on trial for committing an act of terrorism. Start tossing a few of this arseholes in the pen for about 20 years or so and this shit will end. Identity theft and theft of personal information has to stop!
me too go uk. dont you think apple are ripping us off we have to pay from £420 for an iphone while americans only pay 99 dollars which is about 70 pounds
I think AT&T needs better security, yes u could blame apple for not encrypting it, but its was AT&T's security problem that is the main reason for this
whosever fault this is, regardless if its Apple's or AT&T, its unacceptable. both companies should have taken precautions to ensure things like this dont happen. in my eyes, both companies should be held responsible
You gotta get your facts straight Jon. This is SOLELY and AT&T issue and has nothing to do with apple's security. Also the only thing that was taken were email addresses.
1. You've gotta love YouTube today... where someone makes a video where the host simply reads an article. Wow. I like your vids Jon, but please stick to the reviews.
2. By the sounds of it it's AT&T's fault, and this is why I am much happier to be in the UK where we have FOUR 3G operators which could make the same problem... but only a quarter as bad.
3. I doubt anything will happen with your data. 114000 people... just to prove a point.
jon, poor form here - the breach was with AT&T (unless you're Gawker media with a personal axe to grind); if you're using the iPad WiFi only or you're using the iPad in another country, it's not an issue and the 'huge' breach as you say is the divulging of email addresses.
just put me in the room with all the hackers. and ill rip thier fucking heads off. i fucking hate those lowlifes peices of shit. especially when im playing games...
This is no ones fault to an extent, yes Apple should of encrypted the data and made it secure. But it's those god damn hackers why?! Get a job and earn money like everyone else these people ruin peoples safety!
also you said, its apple's job to secure the servers? why is it that at&t fixed the problem then? if it was apple's problem, they would've fixed it. or is that just too logical.
This just pisses me off. I have been a victim of identity theft and the credit card companies have been very good to help me out..wtf!?!?! Apple needs to do something quick or I will be at their door step...lol not much I can do, but hope my info was not leaked.
than this isnt an iPad security issue its an AT&T issue .. the title is kind of misleading though the end result is ipad owners its still an AT&T issue
You guys don't have to worry. I just read an article that was published 10 minutes ago saying that the hackers only got access to your email address, not login info or anything else. So the worst thing that can happen is an increase in spam. Nothing more.
AHA!! Microsoft Fan-Boys can't use the "Apple is not big enough so they don't try to hack it" excuse anymore. In your face 100 thousand+ peoples info just got stolen!!!...wait thats not a good thing :x

Lordy lord... Let's brace ourselves for a sue-war.
I am surprised that this had not happened with the iPhone Original/3G a few years ago.
Over 114,000 compromised... This is unbelievable. IMO, Both Apple and AT&T are at fault, although I believe that Apple is more to blame. Over the years, Apple has had lots of experience with encrypting data and creating a secure data-port to AT&T servers, each one being an individual port to the device's MAC address.
so what if You got the 3G version...BUT you id not turn it on?

Lordy lord... Let's brace ourselves for a sue-war.
I am surprised that this had not happened with the iPhone Original/3G a few years ago.
Over 114,000 compromised... This is unbelievable. IMO, Both Apple and AT&T are at fault, although I believe that Apple is more to blame. Over the years, Apple has had lots of experience with encrypting data and creating a secure data-port to AT&T servers, each one being an individual port to the device's MAC address.
