Those who died in London by the V2 rockets which were still falling while Dresen was being bombed did not deserve to die. Boming stopped the poison gas made in Chemische Fabrik Goye in Dresden from killing many more people.

@helenheather Typical bloke I suppose. I grew up in the folk law of WW2. My Dad was in the Navy, Mother a Land girl, Grandfather a Fireman in the Surrey Docks. Grandparents lived through the Blitz etc. As a child/young man I met and heard swapped stories from many a veteran in the local Brit Legion when I went out with my parents. I can honestly say I never heard a bad word about the Germans. They seemed to have a deep respect for them. They realised and empathised how they suffered .

to defeat an industrialized nation you have to cripple its industry. Industry isn't just railroads and plants, it is the people who work there. RAF declared that it would target workers in urban areas. At the time it was the only way. American efforts were pitted against military targets and ironically didn't share the same thoughts about bominb civilian populations as they do now.
1. Stalin requested the bombing of Dresden. It is documented - read it first.
2. The unexpectedly high casualties from the bombing of Dresden demonstrated to Stalin that for once he should reign-in his megalomaniac desires and stick to his agreements about the post-war European order.
As an historian I think these numbers are exagerated. There is no doubt some sort of bombing took place during those days but the number of dead was between 15,000 and 20,000 at most. Remember too that Dresden was a major connection point for railroads and had an especially important role in the transportation of oil products from the Romanian oil fields to the Nazi factories.
Not only that your numbers are most likely incorrect (because nobody really knows), moreover, the bombing took place in late February'45, when the Romanian oil fields were long time occupied by the Russian army... I guess, you were on cocaine calling yourself "historian" .
The 240,000 who were killed in Warsaw (wiki) by the Luftwaffe in Sept 1939 did not deserve to be killed nor did the hundreds of thousands murdered by Einsatzgruppen nor the millions, shot, gassed, hung, beaten or starved to death in the camps but they died nonetheless. Those who died in London by the V2 rockets which were still falling while Dresen was being bombed did not deserve to die. Boming stopped the poison gas made in Chemische Fabrik Goye in Dresden from killing many more people.

Grandparents lived through the Blitz etc. As a child/young man I met and heard swapped stories from many a veteran in the local Brit Legion when I went out with my parents. I can honestly say I never heard a bad word about the Germans. They seemed to have a deep respect for them. They realised and empathised how they suffered .

Dresden - 110 factories and 50,000 workers in the city supporting the German war effort at the time of the raid. According to the report, there were aircraft components factories; a poison gas factory (Chemische Fabrik Goye and Company); an anti-aircraft and field gun factory (Lehman); an optical goods factory (Zeiss Ikon AG); etc.

The general image seems to be that it was ok to obliterate Dresden, for several reasons:
1: The Germans had bombed British cities.
Contra: True, and those were war-crimes for which those responsible were held accountable at Nuremberg. But was it really right for the Allies to stoop to the level of the Nazis?

On 15. March 1945 the commander of Dresden declared: 18 000 found dead in the streets, 2000 found dead in the buildings.
Later in 1945 and 1946/47 about 2000 skeletons were found under the destroyed buildings.

So, my grandmother suffered from the war as many others did. If you didnt lift your right hand for salute, you got killed. Its that simple. You would lift your hand. If you didnt, the nazis killed your family members. Hitler was a dictator, so everyone had to obey him.

If the people didnt like him, they went to the concentration camps very often. Nobody likes beeing tortured, so the most germans just obeyed. You would lift your hand, cause you would be forced, believe me. Several friends of my grandmother lived in severe danger, because of having other opinions. If you talk about "the germans", do you mean all of them, children, old people etc.?

It was a deal and the wealthy Zionist bankers in The U.S. spread propaganda and got us into the war. With our help the Allies were able to turn the tables, but they did so unfairly. They said they were going to make sure Germany could no longer fight a war again. (Not fair is it?) They blamed the whole war on Germany (treaty of Versailles)

World War two was basically an extension of World War one. Germany was willing to offer a peace treaty in WWI allowing for everybody to basically drop their weapons and go home, but Zionists told england they could get the U.S. in to the war if they could have Palestine.

Germany was destroyed because it had started TWO!!! world wars. German aggression and thirst for conquest was the reason which eventually lead to Dresden. I served in the first gulf war and must admit that I hated the Iraqi's for making me fight a war they started and I didn't really want to fight ( taking me to the other side of the world). I guess the same could be said for the allies in both world wars as well.

Do people read and try to find the truth behind things or do most people just accept what they are told like blind sheep...WWII was horrific, the Holocaust the millions killed by the Nazi's and the destruction they caused was horrible....but so was the bombing of a world treasure like Dresden and the killing of innocent children who were refugees...the war was over and this was done out of vengence.

60 million people were killed in the war and all you can talk about are the people in the camps. Ireland was neutral like Bernadette Devlin was in love with England. If they were pro-British, the Germans would have bombed the hell out of Dublin, Belfast and Derry. You can not blame the German people anymore than you can blame me for the war crimes of Iraq. On the 13/14th February 1945 Dresden was firebombed with estimates of 100.000 plus civilian deaths. However this being unfortunate for the people of Dresden but this was total war. to defeat an industrialized nation you have to cripple its industry. Industry isn't just railroads and plants, it is the people who work there. RAF declared that it would target workers in urban areas. At the time it was the only way. American efforts were pitted against military targets and ironically didn't share the same thoughts about bominb civilian populations as they do now.

As an historian I think these numbers are exagerated. There is no doubt some sort of bombing took place during those days but the number of dead was between 15,000 and 20,000 at most. Remember too that Dresden was a major connection point for railroads and had an especially important role in the transportation of oil products from the Romanian oil fields to the Nazi factories.
