Kosovo has historically been a territory of Serbia, and at one was the territorial and spiritual heartland of Serbia. Over generations, Serbs migrated to other areas as more Albanians migrated into Kosovo - hence today you have a large Albanian majority in Kosovo and a small Serbian minority.
