I understand the difference b/t a top hinge and side hinge door. But, as he said, if you were to back into a tight space and could not open your top hinge door....wouldn't that also mean that you couldn't open a side hinge door?
if you think about it, say if you have 1 foot of space to open the door. if you have top hinge opening from the bottom, then it is much more difficult to load things into that opening that it creates. wheras with a side hinge door, it is slightly easier to load things into the side.
