  • She's the best! Cass! Lives forever.

  • This is my new theme song! I've loved them all along but as of this week, this song takes on a brand new meaning! Thanks Mama Cass! We miss you!

  • The best song of the Empire........

  • She also loved Ham Sandwiches!! What a voice!!! We miss you Mama Cass Elliot

  • She has one of the best voices I've ever heard. LOVE her range. Love the guts it took for her to be as ballsy as she was back in the 60's. She was a true pioneer for women!

  • @krazikate75 You hit it right on the head Congrats..Mama Cass was so talented and she knew it I love that RIP

  • NICE AND CRISP

  • the lady could belt out a song, and make it work....sad she's gone

  • That's Mickey Dolenz at the 2:02 mark! Is that clip from Monterrey?

  • @LarryRickenbacker Wow! that is Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees! You can tell he was a big fan!!! What a great eye! He also has a distinctive rare voice! I Love Cass Elliot, she's an inspiration to me and the Sounds of the Mamas and the Papas and the Monkees!

  • Sandwiches kill

  • Sandwiches kill

  • So Very Fantastic.

  • am i wrong to love this band more than the beetles?

  • She was hands down the greatest female singer of her time and still today, and she could move too, a very beautiful woman, we all miss her

  • @FogertyCosmo id say top 3 are 1. Shirley Bassey, 2. Aretha Franklin, and 3. Her, and the singer from Heart would be # 4.

  • @FogertyCosmo Cant agree more with everything you say about cass & band.... But does Michelle appear lost ?

  • Shite, I forgot how to link directly to a spot on a video. One more try 0:35

  • 35 Quite possibly the most adorable 1/10th of a second in the history of 60's pop. (Guess I needed to leave off the : to get it to work).

  • :35 Quite possibly the most adorable 1/10th of a second in the history of 60's pop.

  • Has anyone seen the live version of 'Dancing Bear' anywhere?

Who says "no"at the beginining of the song?

  • I found the words 'If you love her, you must take her somewhere she's never been before' written on a scrap of paper in my backpack today. I googled it, and I've been listening to this since. Thanks, Past Me!

  • Probably the best female vocal performance ever

  • I am old too. I don't merry, but date young girls, I love girls, (and the 25 year olds) love this song). It's magic, I still love it too.

  • I just heard this song tonight while in a store i thought it was birds of love, soft and tender then i just typed soft and tender and i found the song! lol I love it Mama Cass has such a great voice

  • @tanrat7 Haha, I work at walgreens and I hear it there all the time now. I love it!

  • Very much the epitome of sixties easy rock

  • She is.... wonderful! is simple.

  • Janet Napolitano is the reincarnation of Mama Cass. That's why the rumor spread like wildfire that Mama Cass choked to death eating a ham sandwich. That's how the Homeland Security Chief, Nappy-head to her friends, is going to die. Crystal ball stuff.

  • This is the version I knew! Thanks!

  • she was a heart attack waiting to happen

  • @jamierourketen Yes, but not for the reasons you might think. Her father died very young of a heart attack and he was NOT heavy. There may have been a genetic problem. She TRIED to lose weight, to no permanet avail. She begged her doctors to have a new (at that time) surgery to tie her stomach off (a very common surgery today) - but they wouldn't do it. It was too experimental at the time. I have a CE tattoo that I am extremely proud to wear. :-)

  • THIS VERSION BLOWS MY MIND , THE CLIPS PUT TOGETHER SHOW WHAT THEY WERE ALL ABOUT.( I;LL NEVER WISH MORE THAN THAT I COULD OF SEEN THEM LIVE.SHAME MUSIC LOST ITS FUN )

  • My mom says Barbra Streisand has the most perfect voice. Watching this, I'd have to disagree.

  • @raintalonwindclan you are right to disagree. Cass's voice is the warmest and most feminine voice you can ever hope to hear. Youtube search " does anybody love you cass elliot " ..... a barely known but magnificent recording.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • christopher60s thanks for the clip and song, she was just great i thought. thanks again.

  • I'M IN LOVE WITH HER VOICE! (: One of the best singing voices I've heard by far.

  • THINK CASS WAS WAITING FOR MICHELLE TO JUMP IN

  • It is so great to have You Tube to take us down memory lane. It does my heart good to go back and remember there was a time when TALENT ruled. No added crap from equipment just bands and voices that had true TALENT. The 60's and 70's are still alive and well in North Carolina...................................

  • @hotstuffandicecream

I READ YOUR MONO , BOY WHEN YOUR RIGHT , YOUR RIGHT. THEY ALWAYS STILL BLOW ME AWAY, NICE TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE HEAR WHAT I HEAR,( MAY-BE LOOK AND READ SOME OF MY MONOS ABOUT THE MAMAS AND PAPAS,ESPECIALLY ON MAMAS AND PAPAS. MRGARR64.

  • I love Mama Cass!!! She had such a beautiful voice and she was beautiful also!!! I do not care if she was overweight or not she is the best part of the Mamas and the Papas. They would never have been so popular without her great voice!!!

  • Yes, John's musical skills are underrated, now partly forgotten and "upstaged" by his serious character flaws. The group should have worked to stay together, but the tenor of the times led them and so many groups to break up. Cass passing on so early too reflects on the self indulgence common. We miss them more now than in those distant days. We wish them well.

  • desculpe eu sou brasileiro (são Paulo) e não sei falar ingles eu não conhecia esta versão com eles gostei muito

    obrigado & boa sorte

  • @RoxxtheOldies2 what, she kinda deserved to die? really? the reality of it is, she was here on this earth for as long as she was supposed to be. no longer, no shorter. she brought us a tremendous gift and shared it. regardless of her personal life, which has not one thing to do with her talent. celebrities personal lives shouldn't be open for discussion.

  • Love this song. What an incredible voice.

  • It's a tragedy to this day she passed away at such a young age becoming the 1st member of the group to depart. A talent like that only comes around once in a lifetime. Real sad.

  • @714AD Yes, it is quite sad that she died so young and that asshole John Phillips lived on for many more years. I guess it's true what Lewis Black said: "The good die young, and pricks live forever."

  • @crescentfreshbret One has to remember drug abuse was running rampant at that time. John Phillips didn't get the notoriety he deserved for all the great songs he wrote that went on to be #1 hits for either his group or other performers. He was definitely a superb talent & when you're talking raw talent, personal lives do not come into play. It's the great music that does. Mama Cass was a great vocalist who had had a brief solo career b-4d. She'd have been great in oldie concerts circuit today!

  • This is just awesome! Can't compare that talent to what we have today. Cass Elliot is a GEM.

  • 45 years later and that voice STILL gives me chills whenever I listen to this song. A million thanks for uploading this classic!

  • LOVE her voice, I know she might not have liked it but I too, get chills listening to Cass. Thanks so much for sharing this song!!

  • Cass rules!!!!!!!!!!!!stick it all you ham sandwich jerks

  • Mama Cass.....Ham Sandwitch.

  • Cass even makes monophonic sound awesome. RIP lady, you are in rock and roll heaven!

  • absolutely amazing vocals! :O

  • Why was the "Mamas and and the Papas" ALL Cass?

  • NO WORDS OF LOVE SOFT AND TENDER WONT WIN HER HEART ANYMORE; send her where, to your bed? and being DISRESPECTED WILL.? sure seems like it TODAY--IT also seems like chicks love potty mouths; on guys too -that's where the romance went ladies--

  • 3 dislikes? Sure everyone has their own opinion but why listen this great song in the first place?

  • Haven't heard this CLASSIC in a long time. So glad; will save to my favorites on YT! : )

  • Cass had one hell of a voice, I know of none that can top her

  • EXCELLENT - what other word can be used?

  • It makes me want to smoke pot so bad. I try to quit but it just magicaly appears in my mouth when these kind of songs come on

  • @babe007ism amazing there were those of us who didn't need "drugs" to get HIGH on their music :)

  • @Jany1954 True thats what makes them great though the fact that the high and non high can come together over awesome music.

  • @Tarn1968

Go to the casselliot (dot) com website, then click on the "Biography" link at the top of the page, then scroll down to the bottom of her biography and read the section entitled, "The Truth About Cass Elliot's Untimely Death". Her full itemized autopsy report is provided in that section. Regardless of what other "multiple sources" that you've ever read on this subject, I would believe her own daughter Owen Elliot before I would believe any of them.

  • Cass Elliot was a sex symbol at a time when people associated beauty with being thin. Thank you, Mama Cass, for showing that even us big girls can be sexy.

  • Cass Elliot was an incredibly beautiful woman and such a lovely voice too :-)

  • i LOVE this song!!!

  • Cass was the best. Without her the band would have been nothing!

  • mama cass u tore this jam the fuck up! up there with strawberry fields forever and satisfaction.......a classic for eternity.

and this from a HUGE, HUGE, beatles fan

  • @Tarn1968 You had a point, as much in what you DIDNT say as much as what you did say. I took my comment off...

  • Mickey Dolenz 2:03

  • Cass was amazing!!!!Great voice!!

  • It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

  • Who sings "on" is michelle jill is look through my window

  • Can't relate to this. No rock n roll here. How could they pass this off on Monterrey?

  • @28if It's called editing you know. This is a studio version of the song, it ain't live, it was never performed at monterrey.

  • NOBODY...NOBODY...NOBODY could EVER replace MAMA CASS! She WAS the group! When she died, the group died with her.

  • hmmm..... at 2:02 in the top left - is that Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees in the crowd? Sure looks like him to me!

  • @pianodavy Oh yes it is... no one has a mug like Micky's!!! Good call!!

  • @pianodavy yes, that's mickey! good eye. i remember this clip from "monterrey pop," at the tail end of ravi shankar's performance.

  • GOD how i love Mama Cass....

  • With all the respect, cause I love rock, I think a slim woman will never sing as a fat one, Mama Cass Ruled 60s

  • Spotted Mickey too!! Go practice your drumming Mickey.

  • Weren't they sublime?

  • Never heard this fantastic song before. Wow! Hey, is that Mickey Dolenz in the crowd scene at the end just before the standing ovation?

  • @Tarn1968 is right but in plain english she had a heart attack.

  • GOD I love this woman!! What an amazing soul with an amazing voice!! Cass, I hope to see you on the other side. Thank you Christopher60s for posting this!! This is why I appreciate youtube so much - How else would we get to enjoy this??! Have you also seen her duet with John Denver on "Leaving on a Jet Plane" on here??

  • what a great old song...no guys, this ain't a track... it's a songggg!! and one of the most fabulous voices ever! keep charming the angels in heaven with that sweet voice of yours Cass...

thanks for this post... old songs are such pleasure to listen to! xx

  • @Tarn1968 Tarn1968, STOP spreading this terrible urban legend!! Cass did NOT choke to death on a ham sandwich!! She died from myocardial degeneration due to her obesity. Her daughter Owen has tried to quell this urban legend for years on the casselliot com website. The full autopsy report is provided there.

  • I agree the late Cass Elliot had a voice like no other

  • Cass was great-I could allways, and have loved big women. What I could not stand was what Michelle and Denny did.

  • Gosh, what a voice! Haven't heard this song in years! Love it. Thanx for sharing.

  • Cass Elliot is EPIC.

  • loved the voice and loved the woman ... rip

  • That Porsche and Cass wow power!

  • whos JILL?

  • love that song, no metter version

  • mama cass has a brilliant voice.nuff said

  • Good eyes spotting Mickey Dolenz! Love Mama Cass! Her voice was full and rich! Dynamite singing and personality. I miss true talents like hers.

  • Sing it Cass!!! You had REAL talent and a REAL voice.....!!!

  • we love Mama Cass..!!.. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • towards the end of this video, with the film of an outside audience, Mickey Dolenz (of the Monkees) is sitting then jumps up to applause.... anyone else noticed this....

  • @Comdesron17 Omg...nice! Totally missed him until I read your comment. I wonder if he was famous when that vid was made of him in audience.

  • @Comdesron17 If it was actually him.

  • @Comdesron17 Yes, I caught that right away (that it was Mickey in the audience). Nice to see such a spontaneous and genuine reaction from someone who was a celebrity himself.

  • I love Cass Elliot. She had an phemonimal voice, and a powerful one that still blows me away. This is one of my favorite songs by her. Just amazing. So thankful for the musical gift she left us.

Cass Elliot, you are still loved and missed.

  • What a kick of a song...Cass sails and soars!

  • Fuck off hippies !!! Oi !!

  • @petrkrska fuck off fascist

  • @yosoyemma YES ! Fuck of fascist !

  • God, she was phenomenal. I wish she were still alive so I could tell her in person.

  • miss you mama

  • God what a voice she had.

  • Christopher, I read on an other YouTube reaction, that the "no" is sung by Jill. Do you know if that is true?

  • @vakantieland4 Yes, I also know this fact :) Yes, Jill claimed it.

  • @christopher60s who the fuck is Jill?

  • @crkpnc Don't know? in 1966 Michelle was replaced by Jill Gibson for two months. Michelle was fired out of the group for some problems between her and John..

  • @christopher60s She was fired out of the band cos she slept with Denny.

  • @crkpnc - JACK'S GIRLFRIEND!

  • Did you know that a 'new' Mamas and Papas song was found called "The Fantastic Four" was recently found?

  • @bluenail03 It's not new, it's realeased in "Jack Of Diamonds" CD of John Phillips, i think it was released in 2007. This song is recorded without Cass and Denny, only Michelle and John features on this track, and some John's friend... :)

  • I LOVE HER VOICE.

  • They were just as good live. No back up stuff.... Raw and great.

  • Michelle is the only of the group still living. Cass what a great voice!!!!!

  • Cass Elliot was a singing goddess. No one approaches her today. I would give anything to be able to sing half as well as she does. She made the group what it was.

  • @doorsgirl100 Too many "music" fans don't remember. I stumbled onto a vid by the 80s group Divinyls, and they have a small but rabid fan base which insists that no female vocalist compares to the female lead vocalist of that group. They came in with MTV, and were really just another MTV creation. I said to this one person, "What about Ann Wilson (of Heart)?" Oh, no, Chrissy is better. "What about Mama Cass?" Cass Elliott? Oh, that's hysterical.

The shallowness of music video and appearance.

  • @57highland You mean they actually used to play music on MTV instead of just crass reality shows. I often wonder how a Mama Cass or Janice Joplin would do today. Its only gotten worse with the emphasis on looks over talent and soul.

  • @doorsgirl100 Hey, doorsgirl, just an afterthought. There couldn't be a Mama Cass or a Janis Joplin today. This era couldn't produce them. You can't take those people out of the 60's, because they MADE the 60s! They were the essence. They were both the drink and the straw that stirs it.

  • @57highland On the other hand beauty and talent can go hand in hand Jim Morrison and David Gilmour. Yikes!!

  • @57highland The Divinyls weren't "just another MTV creation". They formed before MTV did and had already established much of their stage act by then. MTV didn't play them until they were already popular in Australia. Check yer facts.

P.S. One man's meat is another man's poison. I like Mama Cass's voice - nobody does a better 'Dream a Little Dream" than she does - but I prefer Chrissie Amphlett's voice and style. It's not about video or appearance, it's about individual taste.

  • @weirdunclebob Yes, yes, of course, but I question whether Divinyls would have broken in the States in a big way (if they did that) without MTV. I don't single them out, you understand. Madonna, great as she supposedly is, wouldn't have been known outside the NYC dance clubs if it hadn't been for MTV. (MTV was a real force; don't discount it.)

  • frustrado'

thanks;; u seem to know aot about of them

  • i love elliot cass and the mamas and papas

  • god Cass can sing

  • Wow, this is great! This is well put together

and WHAT A GREAT SONG XD

  • Mama cass my goodness what a voice

  • Is that Micky Dolenz of The Monkees @ 2:03???

    Sure looks like him!!

  • @1santos1

Yeah, that was Micky D. He and the rest of the crowd were actually cheering Ravi Shankar, but it sure looks nice ending this video with that footage.

  • Man the best thing for me has always been Cass Elliot. Her voice here is just amazing, so many voices of that time had the ability to really mean the lyrics they sang. Something lost and missing nowadays with kids singing things they have not lived or felt or sadly have no meaning about love and longing or being alone. Miss Cass sure did, all she wanted was love, and went out and got her love, in the shape of a daughter.

  • Loved them all. Nothing compares today.

  • did she have a family?

  • @purselady2 Cass Elliot had a daughter, you can see her in the Cass Elliot official website

  • @frustrado Yes, her name's Owen Elliot (Cass never said publicly who the father was) like to think it was Denny though

  • @Staszu13 Yesssss, that's would be great

  • Great job, Cass. Most singers today couldn't carry a note with three hands.

  • That woman had so much talent; it is so sad she died so young.

  • I wonder why Cass didn't want to do this song it was perfect for her voice

  • 0:38 Dig Michelle's "no"

  • Man! Cass was so good! I loved her voice and she seemed to be a sweet person. I always wanted to see her get a good man and be happy and go on to make much, much more music!! So sorry she's gone. I miss people like her!! Denise 9482

  • Moma Cass had the voice!! Raised in the 80's, I love the 60's!!!

    Great music!!

    Michelle... wow.

  • WOW !!! MAMA CASS ROCKS !!

  • Cass didn't want to sing this? For not wanting to sing it, she sang impressively. So sad she died at only 32 :(

  • This version has the trumpets in the background and it sounds so much better than the version released on their disc that I have.

  • AMAZING version with the trumpets...This is real music!!!!

  • denny was such a dream boat.

  • Neko Case has an almost identical voice... you should listen to "This tornado loves you" if you love Cass you'll love Neko.

  • was this the song that Mama Cass sang on the Scoobie-Doo cartoon?

  • Amazing! Intellectual stimulating conversations. A 40 year old is better than two twenty year olds. Enlightened and liberated comes when facing and realizing the crimes against the Native Americans.

  • Such a perfect and beautiful voice!

  • Cass's voice sounds more Stereo than mono!!

  • I love Cass' voice. Its very heavy and smooth. Thanks for the upload

  • Go back to school Brittney. This is real talent. Rock on Cass.

  • @Tigermarshall i agree

  • nice cameo of Mickey Dolenz at the end

  • Comment removed

  • Cass was an incredible singer. Really brought this group to the four front. R.I.P Mama Cass.

  • I remember how disappointed I was when I bought their second LP with this song on it. "Words of Love" was missing all the added vocals and brass on this mono 45 take. For years you had to find the original 45 to get this take. Great version and so clear and crisp. Many thanks!!!!
