  • How about African-Americans that refer to Africans as African-booty scratchers?? Yup, I hear that all the time..Plus a lot of African-Americans always have something negative to say about Africans..They often say that "Africans come over here & take their jobs" & so on..Ummm, okk... Personally, I really don't give a Hoot; I just live my life and do my thing.....To Each His Own!!

  • Having a nigerian name does not make you more nigerian and and having an american name doesn't make you less nigerian...they are just names. and that thing you said about nigerians with igbo names no going to heaven is bullshit. sorry.

  • we need to listen to part 3. it is quite intersting that what u are has alot of truth in it. I am ibo lived in atlanta. u see the word akata was used mainly becos of lack of knowledge of black histroy, all the blacks went through. when i got to know all that the african american went through, i felt it was wrong to keep such view i mean akata.the word was targetted to behavioural nature found grossly by north american, but when displayed by the african american it was tagged /coined akata

  • where did you hear u cant go into heaven with an ibo name?

  • shit!!!!! is this a man or woman???

  • you need to hang out with me so i can teach you the real igbo am the igbo boy

  • correction : meant to say that "those nigerians who do NOT teach their children their native languages will regret it in future.. its ridiculous!.

  • no thats not true.. africans do go home dont generalise and we marry amongst ourselves.. our kids are not going to be "black american" because we are not lost and christainity does not stop us from being africans what are you talking about.. so nigeria is half islamic so does islam stop africans from being africans ? you are talking about Roman Catholiscism which is a stronghold in igboland because of the missionaries . you seem to resent your family for being igbo i suggest some travel .

  • nice you are igbo i am igbo my name is amarachi

  • How much for a BJ?

  • Uchiwali, I think to acquaint oneself with a particular culture, reading books on it will help? Understand that an Igbo who marrying an African-american is not exactly a way of expressing resentment towards her own people. Ibos (that arrived US between 1675 and 1850) constitute a significant portion of African-americans. Igbo cannot therefore hate themselves, but there are significant cultural differences which are prevalent with all cultural groups in the world.

  • English names have nothing to do with religion. Its about about Colonalism and trying to find a way to communicate or assimilate with British cultures. Religion has nothing to do with it. I am Igbo and I graduated from Howard University and I don't consider myself a lost tribe nor do i feel that most Nigerians are trying to marry whites. That's a huge insult. The idea that black men are with white women spans way further than Nigeria and we both know what i mean as Howard University graduates

  • @primgyrl i cant understand where she gets the idea that nigerians are trying to marry whites ? we marry our own people.. those nigerians who teach their children their native languages are going to regret it in future.. there is no pride in not having a cultural identity when you already have one..

  • PEACE AND UNITY I CALL FOR....BIG UP FROM GAMBIA

  • ."Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). A lot of African American kids are on the path to destruction and we don't want our kids following suit. African kids born in American are not part of the lost tribe, they have an identity, they know where they are coming from and if they are desciplined, they will know where they will end up.

  • @KOOBISHOR Die!

  • You are confused, being a christian does not make you less of an African. Christianity is just a religion, African is your identity. Irish American instill irish values in their kids, Italian American do the same, why not Africans?. We just want to train our kids right, by instilling in them morale values

  • @KOOBISHOR absolutely but the defensive nature of her arguments dont hold water as her experience is a totally american one with no igbo input to talk about. this is the problem with those who come from that situation ..

  • igbo is a language and like any language needs to be practiced to be mastered.. i was born in europe but i speak my own language yoruba , it depends on the type of family you come from and how much they attach our cultural identity to their children..

  • I can't take you seriously with your shabba ranks hair do LOL

  • Girl you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned Christianity. I don't even think religion should be taught in schools in Nigeria. I'm a full-blooded Igbo American, and I don't speak it either. No surprise, after I've grown up to learn how West-obsessed Nigerians are. [My uncle had the nerve to come to my house asking for a SPOON to eat his egusi soup. Sacrilege.] I've always felt that I'm in this identity crisis, trying to identify with a people in an identity crisis of their own.

  • Igbo people don't have a sense of pride in their own. [And I don't think this is strictly an Igbo problem, but I can't speak for other African cultures]. They feel that elevating themselves means adapting the American/European way. And it makes me so sick. It's amazing how little my family knows about their culture sans colonialism. "Oh they were savages. No one is interested in that." B4 I start ranting about my aunts in those WACK ASS WEAVES and makeup 5 shades too light, I'll end it here lol

  • @luwakw01

Speak for yourself. I am Igbo and proud and so are my extended family and Igbo friends.

  • @chung1chu

and so am I. But what I'm saying is that the simple fact that so many of us are growing up without knowing the culture is really sad. If you look at a set of people born and bred abroad, and literally 90% of them don't know their language, that's a huge problem, and it's not a crazy coincidence. There's an ill in the way the the group collectively values their customs. Otherwise, most of us would be speaking Igbo. Just compare us to those from Asian cultures--night and day.

  • @luwakw01

There are many reasons why Igbos born abroad do not speak the language & their parents not being proud of their origin is not one of them. Ogechi (Uchiwali) mentioned the fact that her mother did not want to feel isolated. That is a major reason (where the other parent is not igbo especially when they are from "western countries"). There are lots more if you think about it or ask the right questions.

  • @chung1chu

I do ask the right questions, and what I'm saying only reflects the answers that I get. Honestly, I wasn't even referring to half-Igbos, because that's understandable. I'm talking full-blooded. Better yet, how do you explain Igbos growing up in Nigeria that don't know Igbo? I'm not making this up-there's a mentality that the Western way is the "right" way. Why is someone in Nigeria considered "literate" because they're literate in English? These things go deep. Think about it...

  • @luwakw01

What you are talking about is not peculiar to the Igbos. It happens all over the world; on different levels. It is as a result of Colonisation, domination and oppression. It is a result of the white people telling us that we are worthless and so are our languages and cultures. The people who behaved like the colonial evil men were always financially/materially better off and a lot thought themselves superior. It is why some black people and some Indian people etc use bleaching cream.

  • & although it's not only our problem, I can only worry about getting my own house in order, lol. Also, I still respect South and East Asians b/c although there was some European influences that make me wanna smh, they still have VERY PRESERVED and rich cultures. And if you want to do business with them, you have to do it in their language, for the most part. Our language doesn't seem important, but only we who value it have the power to change that. Imagine Igbo being valued like Chinese or sth!

  • @luwakw01 People tend to forget that English is just a language like any other. They forget that it is just a communication tool from a foreign culture. They hold the oppressors to such a high esteem that they want to be like them. Many members of our societies (blacks) home and abroad are still Mental Slaves and do not realise that to be free they have to embrace and uphold (what is left of) their culture and hold it up high never to be put down again. It is a problem but not peculiar to Igbos

  • @chung1chu

Yes Yes Yes. I agree. Anywhere white people have gone, you see the damage, albeit on different levels. [I actually alluded to that before, but since I'm Igbo, I'll only speak from that perspective]. And I agree with the comment about English, as well. It just worries me that Africa's going to become like Latin America, where all that is spoken is the oppressor language (Spanish, in their case). Whenever I read about the decline in Igbo speakers, it saddens me.

  • @chung1chu

by the way, I really appreciate that people like you who disagree can speak out their differences without being immature or negative. It keeps the dialogue fresh and educational. Much respect.

  • @luwakw01

Thanks. I can be negative sometimes though. Can be a bit abusive but always too Old to be immature.

  • @chung1chu Igbo are to lazy to teach their children the language.

  • @IfImBeingHonest Princenoiramerican you are a D.U.N.C.E. and no matter what i will still keep calling you and your idiocy out here.. your obsession with igbo people is a bust, they KNOW YOU ARE A FAKE .. so bring on your "igbobiafran" channel to harrass igbo people and lets get them to kick your pig ignorance to the curb AGAIN..

  • @luwakw01 What does your uncle asking for spoon for his egusi soup a form of Sacrilege? Sure it seems weird but still.... (Not bashing you, just asking)

  • lol, it's not literally sacrilege. (there's nothing sacred about egusi soup, lolol). The point was that I found his behavior so hilarious and absurd.

  • @luwakw01 LOL!

  • @luwakw01 a spoon to eat egusi soup ? damn that's really deep.thing african culture ( specifically igbo ) is taken for granted in 9ja because ppl live with it.over here naija-brits or americans are claiming a specific rendition of that culture.my dad refers to it as afrocentric pafricanism only its tied to one's indigenous ethnicity.I have always had a problem with that misplace cultural hunger.ain't nothing wrong with a dual culture.

  • get a job bitch

  • @babsjnr I've seen this screen name on another Nigerian forum, and you were a jerk there too. Disregard this one, ppl.

  • My father has five full blooded children in Nigeria and he says that they speak and write english better than Yurba. English is also the unifing language due to the fact that all of the different tribes have different languages. I don't speak Yurba but I am still a Yurba person.

  • love it!

    i feel the same way.

thx for coming to this page to increase the peace!

  • @uchiwali wow, you look and talk black American, i am suprised that you black American are mixing with our African culture since you guys are big bullies. When we leave Africa and come here, you black Americans are like the mean ones who bullies and mistreat us. I am just saying. I am proud to be a full blooded Nigerian west African.

  • @blessedvorgar1 You are ignorant for saying such a statement. I'm black American, and most of my friends are Nigerians, and we mesh well.

You're ignorant. People are people. Be more open to the world and maybe you will learn more instead of condemning black america or even america. Do you think because you live across water that it will make us different? Ignorance

  • Its Yoruba. Not Yurba.

  • @ADEFOLAKE its YORUBA !!lol!

  • @ADEFOLAKE its Y.O.R.U.B.A ..LOL!

  • my goodness thats how i been feeling. my dads ibo and my moms african american. fam on my dad side always got some bs to say about me and blacks in america while praising white jesus!

  • wow. what a relevant comment!

i have often thought the same exact thing.

thanks for having the courage to expose this.

let's continue to increase the peace among our brothers and sisters.

  • This is deep. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. =)

  • Hej cutie!

  • hey now!

  • This is a little bit of the subject but when i was in the military a somalian came up to me and grabed my sleve and said cotton picker so i hit him in the mouth with my rifle butt and said get back you little booty scratcher in my younger years i was a hot head, but on the subject of what foreigners think of american blacks it really does not bother me because i have second amendment rights here in my state of michigan which means anyone who does not have a felony can carry a loaded handgun.

  • i forgive you for this. (just like some haters will have to forgive me for making this video. and move on please!)

    life is for learning.

    africa unite!

  • One thing that i noticed about people who live in states such as california, new york, maryland, new jersey, conneticutt, massacusetts and DC is that people are a lot more disrepectful towards each other in these states because these states do not allow its citizens to legally carry loaded handguns an armed society is also a polite society and these states also have a large amount of immigrants compared to right to carry states. Based on the land of the free and the freer study.

  • i feel this is very relevant to the topic if your eyes are open to human behavior and herding.

i will never be done because i can't be.

i'm living life and thinking about my world and i'm free to ask questions on my search.

never meant to insult anyone's country.

obviously what was said got a reaction from you so my work here is done!

i still can't figure out why you are so mad at me and my truth.

sounds like your problem not mine.

i will continue praying for understanding in this world.

and i will continue to raise thought provoking topics.

and we will all discuss and heal.

that's how i roll so bow down.

  • thank you for removing your shameful comment!

  • i now see now tht, thts how u roll..

    keep on rolling....

ur comment aren't questions...or research...u're lost from rolling roling rolling...

u rude & saucy & am sure u only a little girl. so i'll bow down hahahaha just 2 make u happy again 4 being called AKATA KATA KATA.

    so keep on rolling...

  • how old are u?

  • blah blah blah

  • luv ya!

  • "We are the group we are because of how we differ from the others (who we note by their faults)". That is the way groups define themselves, and it shouldn't be seen as a Nigerian or an African American thing. It is a people thing. It is the values we share in common that should really take note of.

  • agreed.

  • totally off subject but you look a lot like Shay "Buckeey" Johnson from that flavor of love show, don't ask me how I know.

  • oh hecks no i don't!

i look way better than that lady.

    no disrespect to her.

    i'm just stating the facts!

    ;)

  • Just be yourself.

  • Seen.

  • why use the word AKATA anyway.

Like someone said AKATA means WILDDOG.

It's either u are an african American with heritage of Nigeria.

    or a pour Nigerian

religion, culture, language has nothing to do with it.

  • why is this so important to you?

  • i am not mad or hating on you, i am only disagreeing with the fact that you are making it look llike nigerians were the one's who started the whole disrespecting thing. in life if you disrespect people you should expect people to disrespect you back. And you claiming to be half nigerian and half akata, it doesn't mean nothing, if you don't understand nothing about nigeria and only understand your akata ways, to me you are a complete akata. No disrespect, this is just a reality check.

  • something must ring true in a guilty conscience.

    i made my point clear.

  • first of all, i don't hate on all african americans, because i know that their are a lot of good one's. even some of my heros are african americans, e.g Bill cosby, martin luther king, malcom x and so on. i just have broblem with those one's who have no respect for anyone and even for their own people. And second, you guys started calling africans names, like buddy scratcher and such. So you need to correct your people before you try to correct anybody else.... and it's a fact. Naija for life.

  • it seems you have a lot to say.

why don't you make a video?

i don't mind you commenting on mine.

but u must get your facts straight. i have called no names.

i am correcting my people. all god's children are my people.

  • stupid bitch! stop crying, because first of all, Akata does not mean NiGGER, before you start saying shit you don't know. the Word Akata is not from the ibo language, it is from the yoruba language and it means "wild dog" and that's how ya'll mother fuckers behave, the whole world feel that way. ya'll intolerant, crazy, disrespectful and so on.

  • you are the pot calling the kettle black.

you have demonstrated the nasty behavior that you now accuse me.

    get a clue.

i went to your page and it's pretty obvious you suck.

    i'm hater-walkin all over you.

  • u suck.

  • Really good video. You discussed some really important issues. One day the giant Nigeria will awake from her long slumber and all her lost children will return home to feed once again from the bosom of their mother . Cheers

  • Thanks

Your comment totally made my day.

have you heard about this really crazy book called "The Blackman's Guide To Understanding The Blackwoman."

I think it's taking longer for some of our sister and brothers to wake up because some of us are working against the group in the name of cash/money!

  • you are very eloquent.

    do you make videos?

  • i live in de uk but will definately go home. 100% sure about it. i'm making a video of ur countries progress. check dis site in de mean time. check from projects, photos and skybar

  • which site?

  • akatas or nigerian americans dont go home because of the situation of the economy. but nt until now. things have improved. ur country is the 38 richest in the world. not per capita but gross nominal

  • I can't wait to go home.

  • 100% igbo. christian. middle name is igbo. Ifeanyichukwu ikenna okonkwo. nd i will go to heaven

  • i hope so, because i was reading somewhere that w/o a "christian" name, hopes of getting in there would be useless.....

    ;)

well, u can kiss your dreams of sainthood goodbye, at least.

i got confused by that, bc what names are more godly than igbo names?

  • born and bread in nigeria. i dont speak igbo too. its a shame

  • There are classes, you know...

if you are in the Washington DC area please look up Dr. Ekeoma Mmadufo. He is on Howard University Campus and he teaches a class. Tell him Oge sent you.
