  • Amazing what he did and he used old school shoulder pads. Not these football type pads players wear nowadays.

    Never checked from behind, etc.

Played hard and clean. I almost wish that the penalty box doorman would have let him leave and go after Domi when Domi elbowed Nieds in 2000 I think.

  • Its nothing Stevens hadn't done many many times before.... he is a Hall Of Fame Defensemen so I rest my case anybody who says he was a dirty player can kiss my ass...

  • 1 - Niklas Lidstrom - 2 - Bobby Orr - 3 - Scott Stevens

  • besides the cups what has he really won? besides your husband getting shot how did u enjoy the play ms. lincoln

  • To think that soon a player a beaut like Stevens wouldn't even be allowed to play in the NHL soon with the coming rule of head shots

  • stevens is a glorified goon, aside from the cups, what has HE ever won ?

  • Cups...the only thing that matters in the NHL.

  • that's basically saying besides the world heavyweight championship of boxing, what else has mike tyson won? like wtf?

  • @SleeCee 3 Cups, a Conn Smythe, he played in the NHL at age 18, rookie all star, 13 time all star. Oh and since he is a goon, please explain why he only received 4 elbowing penalties in his whole regular season career....?

  • @Jackass4562456

you dont have to elbow to be a goon, see boogaard.

its the fact that anytime a player was in a vulnerable position, he'd hit them even harder then someone who saaw it coming.

  • @SleeCee LOL...The fact that you suggest Stevens is a "goon" confirms you are either: A. completely ignorant B. a self-hating fan of (insert any team here) C. both A and B

Stevens is arguably the greatest hitter of all time, and without question one of the greatest D-man to lace up a pair of skates. Hence his virtual instant induction into the HHoF. And yet you make an absurd comparison to Boogard...your logic is flawed to say the least.

  • @Mogwai211 Well stated and I am a lifelong rangers fan. In his entire career, Stevens picked up a minor elbowing penaliites. He was the best at what he did.

  • @stevedrums yep four elbow minors in career.

Simply the best. As a devils fan, he was the best.

And it pains me to say it, but Henrik is a top 5 goalie in the league, I don't care what anybody says.

Hockey fans need to realize who was the best, etc. without team affiliation.

Roy vs Marty? Different eras for a long time, but it's a toss up. Both better than Hasek IMHO.

Best series I have ever seen? Devils vs Rangers 1994 semi-finals. Classic.

  • @Jackass4562456

goon- i mean look at how many players careers he cut short or ended or injured.

you cant say hitting a guy that hard, isn't trying to hurt him.

  • @SleeCee the more you post, the more ignorant you reveal yourself to be. Hockey is a contact sport, put on your iPod and go watch Curling if it bothers you so much.

  • @SleeCee Respect from competitors. Keep in mind he played 1,635 games. Only five players have played more games than he has. (By this point, Stevens had already played 1,300+ games).

He also revolutionized the defense position as a hard-hitting one, perfecting the open-ice hit.

  • I realise hockey has it's hard hits and it is a team sport, but I think it's commendable at how quickly Langkow's team mates get to his side to help him off. The true spirit of a team.

  • i think there was a better team on the ice though? no? 2000 cup champs thanksssss

  • Be a respectable devils fan asshole.

  • Huge flyers fan here and i even miss this guy. I just miss how hockey used to be before it became like the NBA and all the star players get all the calls. Stevens would have put a bitch like Crosby in his place.

  • That would have been sweet!

  • @cjs342006 he would have get suspended multiple times also.....

  • It takes a tough SOB to get up and walk off the ice after that kind of hit.

  • what else is he gonna do?

  • ya thats true nobody would want to cut across the middle if he was still playing hes one of a kind player

  • Scotty...I wish he didn't age and I could see him play more often...all i have is youtube now... He retired when I was like 8. :(

  • same here i was 8 when they won it in 03

  • And the sad irony is that the career of Scott Stevens ended with a concussion.

  • Cause he got shot in the head with a puck.

  • Technically untrue. Post-concussion syndrome, caused by a Pavel Kubina slapshot he had taken to the head during the second round of the '03 playoffs, forced Stevens to miss over half of the '03-'04 season. He recovered from his injuries and intended to come back and play during the '04-'05 season, but the lockout prevented him from doing so. He didn't decide to retire until the beginning of training camp in '05. He was nearly forty-one years old at the time, so his decision was understandable.

  • haha...langkow gets the goal but he's not gonna know that for a while

  • nastymirasty13 yeah hell

  • only if stevens was still playing he would to teach that fuck bag ovechkin not to cut across the middle....he would teach him the HARD way if you know what i mean

  • BAM!

  • Those classy Philly fans.

  • LMAO. I hate those fuckin nuts.

  • Oh my god, an absolute BEAST!

  • If you think THAT hit was devestating, just wait a few more games...if you know what I mean...;-)

  • Scott Stevens, best open ice hitter in NHL history... there I said it.

  • BOOM!!
